Let's look into some very interesting Nigerian movies that I have watched . I'm not a huge fan of Nigerian movies but I really enjoyed watching this because of the suspense and chaos it portrayed. What the life of a girl child looks like when poverty sets in.
The movie shantytown is directed by Dimeji Ajibola. Directing all six episodes of this Netflix series. This movie exposes prostitution, human trafficking, drugs, poverty and organised crime. This is a 2023 movie linked through a notorious criminal empire.
Shantytown stand's out because it shows how deep rooted crime can become if it is connected to politics, government, business and people in high authorities. There are vulnerable people whose lives are being controlled by the rich,high and mighty.
All the women who worked with scar played important roles in this movie. Their lives are cut in a web that is very difficult to escape from. Leading to so many exploitations that happen to women who are vulnerable and become trapped working for criminals.
This is not about women being trapped and trying to escape it is about, it further reveals the secrets surrounding their character and relationships making each scene powerful and complicated. As the movie progresses the mystery deepens showing that the criminal gang is far spread and deeply rooted in politics, money and drugs.
In this movie we see women are promised a better life only for them to handed over to people who turn them to commodities. Being in an abusive environment is not good at all as it shows their struggles clearly being controlled by the rich. If you take your time to watch you will realise that most of these women were used to the life and accepted their fate. While others were desperate to escape and ended up meeting their death.
A lot of beautiful actors did amazing a very amazing job here: Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, Nse Ikpe Etim , Sola Sobowale ,Richard Mofe Damijo and Shaggy Bello. These very experienced Actors brought out their best in this movie set. Sola Sobowale has this commanding presence in her movies that always makes her performance powerful. The combination of these wonderful actors gave the movie a special blend.
Talking about the movie set and location it absolutely amazing the night view gave it more intensity and dangerous look. Showing two different sides of the world the poor and the rich. This shows us that the poor suffer while others live extravagant life style off their pain.
The violence is shantytown is brutal, the killing, crimes, shooting and so many others exploitation simply shows that the criminal world is wicked and brutal. It was too much to handle at some point for me chopping off people's head was so gross.
To round it up shantytown is a fear gripping wonderful crime Nigerian movie with very good actors, especially Scar his performance stood out he is the star of the show. If you are looking for movies they show the struggles of poverty, riches, power and affluence then watch shantytown if you haven't. It's a 100/100 for me I enjoyed every bit of it.
