South Africa movies are really beautiful and I love them I have watched a couple of their movies and their acting is always special and lovely. The movie the polygamist is one movie that stands out for me because I really hate men who practice polygamy.
This beautiful movie the polygamist is a south African series that plays out betrayal,secrets, family, revenge and double life. It was released on Netflix in 2026. It's has 22 episodes . Most people don't know it is actually based Sue Nyathi's novel.
Jonas Gomora a very wealthy and influencial business man who is living a carefully constructed life, but things begin to fall apart as the secrets of his polygamous life style begins to manifest and everything almost comes crumbling down.
The start up of the movie shows Jonasi Gomora already dead as his wife Joyce who is the grieving widow appears to be emotionally broken even as she carries a lot of anger and resentment in her. Watching the story unfold it clearly shows that Jonasi marriage was no where close to perfect. He was entangled with so many women and this brings conflict to his work and business at the same time.
The plot twist in this movie is very good and it gets interesting the huge difference between Gomoras public image and his private life is mind blowing. He gives off the successful rich and respected man , but behind all the fasade, he is a manipulative man who targets people closet to him, these his reckless life style affects his family and children too putting his family legacy at risk.
Joyce is a strong character in this movie, she starts with the character of a woman who is hurt and betrayed by her husband, as time goes on she shows up and becomes more complicated, her determination and anger makes her to be unpredictable her performance is one of the biggest strength of the age traditions, affluence and family loyalty.
The movie the polygamist had the audience glued to their phone in a very sweet way keeping them curious, as every episode comes with a different kind of revelation, secret and lies .This kind of movie requires you to leave everything because you will not want to stop if you start. The exaggerated emotions involving marriage traditions, affluence and family loyalty.
Polygamy was not really approached in it's right sense , the movie was much more centred on deception and infidelity rather than a straight forward answer. Polygamy is the consensual marriage of two or more wife's . This very important for it to be known as it's not just simply about having multiple partners but it's about the lies and deceit. Let's not confuse polygamy for that just as the movie implies.
Jonas Gomora is a charming but flawed man I would say him and Joyce were actually a perfect fit in the movie. A lot of supporting cast in the all made it beautiful. Wrapping it up , the polygamist gives off family feuds, greedy , revenge and romance with so many unexpected plot twists. For lovers of African drama this is a good movie to relax over the weekend.
For me the polygamist is very addictive for someone who doesn't enjoy seasonal movies with plenty episodes, but I was literally glued to my phone watching this movie. It keeps you wanting more and more curious to know what will happen next. I would clearly rate it a 100/100.
