My opinion about Elemental, the new Disney and Pixar movie. [ENG-ESP]

The new Disney and Pixar movie aroused interest in many children and adults, one of them was my daughter Andrea, so much so that for her birthday we went to the movies to see this movie. The truth is that I was not excited because the trailer did not seem innovative even though the image was beautiful, and it was similar to Intense-Mind or Zootopia, but I enjoyed it anyway and now I am going to tell you my opinion and as a critic of the things I would have liked to see.

La nueva película de Disney y Pixar despertó interés en muchos niños y adultos, uno de ellos fue mi hija Andrea. tanto así que para su cumpleaños fuimos al cine a ver esta película. La verdad yo no me sentía emocionada porque el tráiler no me había parecido innovador aunque la imagen era hermosa, además se me hacía similar a Intensa-Mente o Zootopia, pero de igual manera la disfruté y ahora les voy a contar mi opinión y tal cual crítica de las cosas que me hubiera gustado ver.

In this film the characters are people made up of the four elements fire, water, earth and air, although more prominence is given to water and fire. They all live in Elements City, a city like Zootopia where animals live but here live people of water, fire, earth and air. Each person is only allowed to mix with other people of the same element, creating a society separated by classes.

The first thing I thought of was racism since each element lives in a separate territory, but in the city they coexist and it is mostly adapted for water, earth and air, leaving the fire people living on the outskirts of the city where a means of transportation that requires water for its operation passes through, it is as if everything was designed so that the fire people were the marginalized in the film.

The protagonism is taken only by the elements water and fire as presented in the promotional poster, leaving the other elements without any kind of importance in the plot, I only saw an air character who made a moderately important appearance and an earth character who was like a filler at first but then disappeared. The truth is that I imagined that a person from each element would participate in the resolution of the problem and in this way we could know the characteristics and identify the differences between each one of them.

En esta película los personajes son personas formadas por los cuatro elementos fuego, agua, tierra y aire, aunque se le da más protagonismos al agua y al fuego. Todos viven en ciudad Elementos, una ciudad como Zootopia dónde viven animales pero aquí viven personas de agua, fuego, tierra y aire. A cada persona solo se le permite mezclarse con otras personas de su mismo elemento, creando una sociedad separada por clases.

Lo primero que pensé fue en racismos ya que cada elemento vive en un territorio separado, pero en la ciudad conviven y está mayormente adaptada para agua, tierra y aire, dejando a las personas de fuego viviendo a las afueras de la ciudad por dónde pasa un medio de transporte que requiere agua para su funcionamiento, es como si todo estuviera diseñado para que las personas de fuego fueran las marginadas en la película.

El protagonismo se lo llevan solo los elementos agua y fuego así como se presenta en el cartel promocional, dejando a los otros elementos sin ningún tipo de importancia dentro de la trama, solo vi a un personaje de aire que hizo una aparición medianamente importante y un personaje de tierra que fue como un relleno al principio pero luego se desapareció. La verdad me imaginé que en la resolución del problema iban a participar una persona de cada elemento y de esta manera pudiéramos conocer las características e identificar las diferencias entre cada uno de ellos.

The main plot of this movie is the romance between two people so different that it was believed that if they touched, one of them would die. Ember, is a young fire girl, impulsive and literally on fire, with a father who is very angry with water people and believes that these people only want to harm his element, he hopes that his daughter will continue his legacy but she feels frustration for not being able to fulfill what they expect of her. Wade, is a very sensitive young man of water, with a sensitive, understanding family that supports all its members regardless of their preferences or tastes.

The comedy scenes are few, I don’t think I heard a laugh from some kid in the theater, but a few chuckles every time Wade’s strand of sensitivity was touched upon, but other than that there was nothing in the movie that told me it was comedy genre. I don’t know, but for me animated movies should have comedy included.

La trama principal de esta película es el romance, entre dos personas tan diferentes que se llegaba a creer que si se tocaban, uno de los dos moriría. Ember, es una joven de fuego, impulsiva que echa fuego literalmente, con un padre que siente mucha rabia por las personas de agua y cree que estas personas lo único que quieren es hacerle daño a su elemento, él espera que su hija continúe con su legado pero ella siente frustración por no poder cumplir con lo que esperan de ella. Wade, es un joven de agua muy sensible, con una familia sensible, comprensiva que apoya a todos sus miembros sin importar sus preferencias o gustos.

Las escenas de comedia son pocas, no creo haber escuchado una carcajada de algún niño en el cine, pero si unas cuantas risas cada vez que se tocaba la hebra de sensibilidad de Wade, pero aparte de eso no había nada en la película que me dijera que era de género comedia. No sé, pero para mí las películas de animación deberían traer la comedia incluida.

As we are accustomed to, messages for reflection are incorporated into the plot, in this case it tells us how being so different we can complement each other, differences are not obstacles to friendship or love, rather we must accept and value those differences that enrich us and help us grow as people.

To parents it leaves us the reflection of helping our children to develop, guide them on the path of life but without pretending that out of love or gratitude they will do what we expect, they are independent beings with tastes and interests different from ours, so the job of a parent is to teach their child to fly so they can do it only when the time is right.

Cómo nos tienen acostumbrados los mensajes para la reflexión están incorporados en la trama, en este caso nos habla de como siendo tan diferentes nos podemos complementar unos a otros, las diferencias no son obstáculos para la amistad o el amor, más bien debemos aceptarnos y valorar esas diferencias que nos enriquecen y ayudan a crecer como personas.

A los padres nos deja la reflexión de ayudar a nuestros a hijos a desarrollarse, guiarlos en el camino de la vida pero sin pretender que por amor o agradecimiento van a hacer lo que esperamos, ellos son seres independientes con gustos e interés diferentes a los nuestros, así que el trabajo de un padre es enseñar a su hijo a volar para que pueda hacerlo solo cuando sea el momento.

I feel that I have been a little rude with the movie, and anyone who reads my lines will think that I did not like it at all, but although I have all these opinions I can not complain about the design of the characters, the colors and all the animation work is spectacular, I loved the fire that runs through the body of the people of that element, but I would have liked to have been given more prominence to characters of the other elements and also a bit of comedy to not feel that I was watching only a family and social drama.

This is my personal opinion on Elements, I don’t usually criticize a movie so much but I couldn’t stop thinking about all this since I left the movie theater. I just hope my post doesn’t stop you, you have to see it and create your own opinion and if you have already seen it I would love for you to leave a comment with your opinion as well.

Siento que he sido un poco ruda con la película, y cualquiera que lea mis líneas pensará que no me gustó nada, pero aunque tenga todas estas opiniones no puedo quejarme del diseño de los personajes, los colores y en fin todo el trabajo de animación es espectacular, me encantó el fuego que corre por el cuerpo de las personas de ese elemento, pero me hubiera gustado que se le diera mas protagonismo a personajes de los otros elementos y también un poco de comedia para no sentir que estaba viendo solo un drama familiar y social.

Está es mi opinión personal sobre Elementos, no suelo criticar tanto una película pero no he podido dejar de pensar en todo esto desde que salí de la sala de cine. Solo espero que mi publicación no te detenga, tienes que verla y crear tu propia opinión y si ya la viste me encantaría que dejaras un comentario también con tu opinión.
