🎬 A MOVIE THAT WAS REALLY HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE FIRST TIME AND GOT MORE COMPLICATED WHEN I SAW IT FOR THE SECOND TIME.

COME TRUE is without a doubt one of the most complicated movies I have ever had to understand due to how heavy, coarse and not very understandable it is when developing its story and I say this with all due respect to the moviegoers who love or sympathize with this movie.

🇪🇸 UNA PELÍCULA QUE DE VERDAD ME COSTÓ ENTENDER A LA PRIMERA Y SE FUE COMPLICANDO MÁS CUANDO LA VI POR SEGUNDA VEZ.

COME TRUE es sin duda una de las películas más complicadas que me ha tocado entender debido a lo pesado, tosco y poco entendible que es al momento de desarrollar su historia y esto lo digo con todo respeto hacia los cinéfilos que adoran o simpatizas con esta película.

Trying to talk about "sleep" and everything that hides that act is one of the most complex topics where scientists have invested time and effort to find out the secret it hides. We also see this in the movie when they try in a fantasy way to give us an idea of the meaning of sleep and how our brain and body works when we sleep, one of those movies is Inception by (Christopher Nolan) where the premise was that a man could infiltrate the dreams of his victims to steal information, everything developed from that point and it really worked perfectly.

I must clarify that Inception is not the same as COME TRUE the only thing they have in common is the idea of creating through the dream act a fictional plot that's all. A few days ago I debated in a group of movie lovers about COME TRUE and at least 70% of the participants labeled it as one of the worst of 2019 comparing it to a movie called The Cell from 2000 which I haven't had the chance to see, but where they emphasized that with little effort they achieved the main purpose of conveying to the viewer the idea of how a person using sleep as a bridge could penetrate the mind of a murderer and know his motivations, obviously all this is a result of fiction, but that according to moviegoers was executed much better than in this movie.

🇪🇸 Intentar hablar sobre el “sueño” y todo lo que esconde ese acto es uno de los temas más complejos donde los científicos han invertido tiempo y esfuerzo en averiguar lo secreto que esconde. Esto también lo vemos en la película cuando intentan de manera fantasiosa darnos una idea del significado del sueño y como funciona nuestro cerebro y cuerpo al momento de dormir, una de esas películas es Inception de (Christopher Nolan) donde la premisa era la que un hombre podía infiltrarse en los sueños de sus víctimas para robar información, todo se desarrollaba desde ese punto y realmente funcionaba perfectamente.

Debo aclarar que Inception no es igual que COME TRUE lo único que tienen en común es la idea de crear a través del acto del sueño una trama ficticia eso es todo. Hace unos días debatí en un grupo de amantes de la película sobre COME TRUE y por lo menos el 70% de los participantes la etiquetaron como una de las peores del 2019 comparándola con una película llamada The Cell del año 2000 la cual no he tenido la oportunidad de ver, pero donde hacían énfasis en que con poco esfuerzo lograban el propósito principal de transmitir al espectador la idea de cómo una persona usando el sueño como puente podía penetral la mente de un asesino y conocer sus motivaciones, obviamente todo esto es resultado de la ficción, pero que según los cinéfilos se ejecutó mucho mejor que en esta película.

I would like to put as an example a movie that if I have had the opportunity to see I am talking about Flatliners from the year 2017 where they touch a totally opposite theme to what we see in COME TRUE where a group of medical students where they experiment with death and brush that thin line between being alive or dead to know what is found after life, but they come across disturbing situations that generate a tension and terror in each of them. This movie somehow manages to merge fiction with horror making the movie entertaining to a certain extent because I can't deny that they get out of hand the whole main idea and send everything to hell.

What I'm getting at with these comparisons is that you don't need to complicate things so much to achieve to a certain level the objective of showing, transmitting what you want from an idea and that combining fiction with horror can be great if each idea is properly executed. Something that unfortunately does not happen in this film and that I will try in the most complete and simple way to explain to you in this review.

I'LL TELL YOU QUICKLY AND WITHOUT SPOILERS, IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!

The movie opens with Sarah (Julia Sarah Stone) a girl who apparently runs away from home and finds herself aimlessly having to sneak into her house to get food and spend the night at a friend's house while figuring out what to do with her life.

🇪🇸 Quisiera poner como ejemplo una pelicula que si he tenido la oportunidad de ver le estoy hablando sobre Flatliners del año 2017 donde tocan un tema totalmente opuesto al que vemos en COME TRUE donde un grupo de estudiantes de medicina donde experimentan con la muerte y rozan esa línea delgada entre estar vivo o muerto para saber que se encuentra después de la vida, pero se topan con situaciones perturbadoras que generan una tensión y terror en cada uno de ellos. Esta película de cierto modo logra fusionar la ficción con el terror haciendo de la película algo entretenida hasta cierto punto porque no puedo negar que se les sale de las manos toda la idea principal y mandan todo al carajo.

Hacia dónde quiero llegar con estas comparaciones, es que no se necesita complicar tanto las cosas para lograr hasta cierto nivel el objetivo de mostrar, transmitir lo que se desea a partir de una idea y que combinar la ficción con el terror puede resultar estupendo si se ejecuta adecuadamente cada idea planteada. Algo que lamentablemente no sucede en esta película y que intentaré de la forma más completa y sencilla explicarte en esta reseña.

¿DE QUÉ TRATA LA PELÍCULA?

¡TE LO CUENTO RÁPIDO Y SIN SPOILERS, POR SI AÚN NO LA HAS VISTO!

La película inicia con Sarah (Julia Sarah Stone) una chica que aparentemente se escapa de su casa y se encuentra sin rumbo fijo teniendo que entrar a su casa a escondidas a buscar comida y pasar la noche en casa de una amiga mientras descubre qué hacer con su vida.

At first glance we can notice that she is a girl with some personal problems that empower her as a rebellious or unbalanced girl, this I can intuit on a personal level, since within the film we do not have any guidance on what exactly motivates her to be away from home and we as viewers must give us an idea about it added to this during the first part we can notice that she has trouble falling asleep.

Sarah desperate to get a place to spend the night is encouraged to be part of a sleep study experiment where she must spend some time and go through different tests, she meets a man named Jeremy (Landon Liboiron) who explains a little more about the experiment, but before this Sarah goes through a "disturbing" situation that will unleash a series of nightmares inside her head and must fight against what her mind hides.

In short we will see a journey through Sarah's mind through some screens that will serve to see everything that her mind hides and the strange ghosts or entities that in some way or another will fight to catch her.

🎬 MY SPOILER-FREE OPINION

Something that I must explain is that to some extent the film captured my attention when we were immersed inside Sarah's mind and we could see somewhat gloomy figures that showed how lost this girl was and the mental chaos that made her unable to sleep, this was what I personally felt with these scenes.

🇪🇸 A simple vista podemos notar que es una chica con algunos problemas personales que la potencian como una chica rebelde o poco equilibrada, esto lo puedo intuir a nivel personal, ya que dentro del filme no tenemos ninguna guía sobre que la motiva exactamente a estar fuera de casa y debemos nosotros como espectadores darnos una idea sobre ello sumado a esto durante la primera parte podemos notar que tiene problemas para conciliar el sueño.

Sarah desesperada por conseguir un lugar donde pasar la noche se anima a ser parte de un experimento del estudio del sueño donde debe pasar un tiempo y pasar por diferentes pruebas, conoce a un hombre llamado Jeremy (Landon Liboiron) quien le explica un poco más sobre el experimento, pero antes de esto Sarah pasa por una situación “perturbadora” que desatará una serie de pesadillas dentro de su cabeza y deberá luchar contra lo que esconde su mente.

En resumen veremos un viaje por la mente de Sarah a través de unas pantallas que servirán para ver todo lo que su mente esconde y los extraños fantasmas o entidades que de alguna manera u otra lucharán por atraparla.

MI OPINIÓN LIBRE DE SPOILERS

Algo que debo explicar es que hasta cierto punto la película captó mi atención cuando nos sumergían dentro de la mente de Sarah y podíamos ver figuras algo tétricas que mostraban lo perdida que estaba esta chica y el caos mental que hacía que no pudiera conciliar el sueño, esto fue lo que yo en lo personal sentí con estas escenas.

As I said at the beginning it is a heavy film and difficult to understand at first, even more so when we are not used to this type of genre or material where the director (Anthony Scott Burns) somehow wanted to go deeper, but from my perspective did not achieve the effect he wanted, I feel that the original concept he had of the film escaped from his hands and I say this based on what I saw at the beginning and that as the film progressed it took another path that for me did not make any sense. On many occasions I have made it clear that I am not an experienced moviegoer and that perhaps some details or references to other films may be overlooked and it is generated that I do not have the same perspective as other film lovers, but I always support myself that if to enjoy a movie we must see a dozen films based on the same thing is nonsense, I deeply believe that each film should appeal to its audience in the simplest way and that if that is not achieved is not because of your little knowledge but rather your tastes and the way it impacts on you.

For me this may be the worst movie, but for another moviegoer it may be a work of art, each opinion is individual and that must be respected.

FANTASY, SCIENCE FICTION OR PERHAPS HORROR?, This threw me off a bit because I didn't understand what direction they wanted to take at the beginning I thought I would see a horror movie because of the way it was developing, then I felt that they would give it that touch of fiction and fantasy and leave aside the horror because seeing how a good part of the movie revolved around the main character and what was happening inside his head gave me the vague impression that I wouldn't get out of that concept.

🇪🇸 Como dije al principio es una película pesada y difícil de comprender a la primera aún más cuando no estamos acostumbrados a este tipo de género o material donde el director (Anthony Scott Burns) de alguna manera quería profundizar, pero que desde mi perspectiva no logró el efecto que deseaba, siento que se le escapó de las manos el concepto original que tenía de la película y esto lo digo basándome en lo que vi al inicio y que al avanzar la película fue tomando otro camino que para mí no tenía ningún sentido. En muchas oportunidades he dejado claro que no soy un cinéfilo experimentado y que quizás algunos detalles o referencias de otras películas se me pueden pasar por alto y es genera que no tenga la misma perspectiva que otros amantes del cine, pero siempre me apoyo en que si para disfrutar de una película debemos ver una docena de películas basadas en lo mismo es una tontería, creo profundamente que cada película debe atraer a su público de la manera más simple y que si eso no se logra no es por culpa de tu poco conocimiento sino más bien de tus gustos y la forma como impacta en ti.

Para mí esta puede ser la peor película, pero para otro cinéfilo puede ser una obra de arte, cada opinión es individual y eso se debe respectar.

¿ES DE FANTASÍA, CIENCIA FICCIÓN O QUIZÁS TERROR?, esto me saco un poco de onda porque no entendía qué dirección quieren tomar al inicio pensé que vería una película de terror por la forma en cómo se fue desarrollando, luego sentí que le darían ese toque de ficción y fantasía y dejarían de lado el terror porque ver como una buena parte de la película giraba alrededor de su personaje principal y de lo que estaba sucediendo dentro de su cabeza me dio la vaga impresión que de ese concepto no saldría.

In fact I was wrong because the last 35 minutes took the idea of terror back, but in a messy way without sense and without fear of being wrong with the sole intention of creating unnecessary twists as was the final part that has no head or tail what they wanted to show.

WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?, Honestly after going back and forth and not being clear about anything I stopped having an entertaining experience and what I thought it would be at the beginning ended up being a mess of ideas and bad storytelling that thanks to the repetitive scenes dulled any emotion in me and the faith that a twist would change the pace of the story.

It would have been great to see Sarah's character more developed and for them to focus on exploiting the idea of what was going on in her head and one way or another fight her inner demons within a fictional situation that would have been more engaging and organic for sure.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?, I really don't recommend it, only that you are one of those viewers who can appreciate art where for many it doesn't exist or that you have a deeper level of knowledge and can take advantage of this film.

Personally, I wasted my time twice with this movie and I didn't write the review before because I was exhausted just thinking that I had to find the right words to build a review that exceeds my expectations and I confess I'm a terrible writer and it's not hard for me to put my ideas in order.

🇪🇸 En efecto estaba equivocado porque los últimos 35 minutos tomó de vuelta la idea del terror, pero de una forma desordenada sin sentido y sin temor a equivocarme con la única intención de crear giros innecesarios como lo fue la parte final que no tiene ni pies ni cabeza lo que quisieron mostrar.

¿QUE ES LO QUE ESPERABA?, sinceramente después de pasar de un lado a otro y no tener claro nada deje de tener una experiencia entretenida y lo que pensé que sería al inicio termino siendo un enredo de ideas y mala narrativa que gracias a las escenas repetitivas apagaron cualquier emoción en mí y la fe de que un giro cambiaría el ritmo de la historia.

Hubiera sido genial ver al personaje de Sarah más desarrollado y que se enfocarán en explotar la idea de que sucedía en su cabeza y que de una manera u otra luchará contra sus demonios internos dentro de una situación ficticia que de seguro hubiera sido más atractiva y orgánica.

¿LA RECOMIENDO?, la verdad no te la recomiendo, solo que seas de esos espectadores que saben apreciar el arte donde para muchos no existe o que tengas un nivel de conocimiento más profundo y puedas sacarle provecho a esta película.

En lo personal yo perdí dos veces mi tiempo con esta película y no saque antes la reseña porque me agotaba el simple hecho de pensar que tenía que buscar las palabras adecuadas para construir una reseña que supera mis expectativas y les confieso soy pésimo escritor y no me cuesta ordenar mis ideas.
