Absorbing science fiction and horror film, made by Canadian filmmaker Anthony Scott Burns. The film has left me absolutely fascinated and in the post I tell you my opinion and I recommend you to watch it.

The fascinating world of dreams: What makes us have pleasant dreams? And nightmares? The branch of science that studies dreams is called Onirology and studies in recent years, along with technological advances, have shown that most dreams have a negative connotation. Fear is present in many of these cases.
Anthony Scott Burns takes concepts from Onirology, to build this disturbing film. A journey between reality and the disturbing nightmares of the protagonist, mixing them with an absorbing aesthetic reminiscent of 80's cinema.
I haven't seen the filmmaker's previous works, Holidays, an anthology of the Horror genre, from 2016 and Our House from 2018, but I'm going to look for those films to watch, because Come true has left me fascinated.
In the film Come True you can see the great influence he has had from another Canadian filmmaker, the master David Cronenberg. Many of his scenes reminded me of the films of this extraordinary director. That caught my attention, in addition to the fact that Scott Burns is in charge of almost everything in the film. He wrote the screenplay, composed the music, handled the cinematography, editing and directed the film. I don't know if he also appeared as an extra, it was the only thing that seems to have been missing.
The result is a film with the full stamp of its author, who started in the industry as a specialist in visual effects, cinematography and is also a musician. One of his visual effects works was in the film The Last Exorcism, Part 2. With me he has gained a new follower. Now I'll be on the lookout for any other productions he does in the next few years.

El fascinante mundo de los sueños. ¿Qué causa que tengamos sueños agradables? ¿Y las pesadillas? La rama de la ciencia que estudia los sueños se llama Onirología y los estudios de los últimos años, junto con el avance tecnológico, ha demostrado que la mayoría de los sueño, tienen una connotación negativa. El Miedo está presente en mucho de esos casos.
Anthony Scott Burns toma conceptos de la Onirología , para construir esta inquietante película. Un viaje entre la realidad y unas perturbadoras pesadillas del personaje protagonista, mezclandolos con una absorbente estética que recuerda a las películas de los años 80.
No he visto los anteriores trabajos del cineasta: Holidays, una antología del genero de Horror del año 2016 y Our House del año 2018, pero voy a buscar esos film para verlos, porque "Come True" me ha fascinado.
En el film se siente la gran influencia que ha tenido Scott Burns de otro cineasta canadiense, el maestro David Cronenberg. Muchas de sus escenas me recordaron a las películas de ese extraordinario director. Eso capto mi atención, además que Scott Burns es quien se encarga de casi todo en el film. Escribió el guion, compuso la música, se hizo cargo de la fotografía, la edición y dirigió el film. No sé si también apareció de extra, fue lo único que le falto por hacer.
El resultado es un film con el sello total de su autor, quien comenzó en la industria como especialista en efectos visuales, la dirección de fotografía y también es músico. Uno de sus trabajos de efectos visuales fue en el film El último Exorcismo Parte 2. Conmigo, se ha ganado un nuevo seguidor. Ahora estaré atento a cualquier otra producción que haga en los próximos años.
What is the plot of Come True?
Sarah Dunne is an 18-year-old girl who, for reasons that are never explained, has decided to leave home. She still attends classes, but every morning she waits for her mother to come out of the house to go in, shower and get dressed. The young girl has serious problems falling asleep, and when she does, she has disturbing nightmares. She spends her nights in a park, gazing at the stars. One day she sees an advertisement for a scientific study in which people are paid to undergo a sleep study. He enters to participate, where he will meet Jeremy, one of the people in charge of the research. The scientists have managed to obtain images of people's dreams. Sarah will get worse after undergoing the experiment, her nightmares will be more terrifying and she will suffer strong panic attacks that will make her lose consciousness. What is real? What is a dream? What is the meaning of this constant nightmare and of the terrifying shadow that appears in it? Are we seeing reality or are we inside a nightmare?

It is a modest production, but one that has managed the available resources very well to create an atmosphere that gripped me from the first minute. The filmmaker's experience in the different facets of the industry is evident. He works wonders with few characters and locations, and conveys an eerie feeling throughout the film.
The eighties aesthetic is another of the film's successes. In this case it is not used for nostalgia, the story is set in the present, but the sets, vehicles and science fiction elements, have a direct reference to the films of the eighties.
The photography of cold tones, immerses us in the dreamlike journey of Sarah, the protagonist of the film. Another factor that I loved, are the costumes worn by the patients undergoing the study, all the artifacts and monitors have a retro look, making the film visually intriguing.
I definitely have to see the director's previous productions, I did a quick Google search and the ratings are not very high, but since I don't believe in the ratings given by the public on those websites, I'm still going to look them up, to have my own evaluation.
Es una producción modesta, pero que ha manejado muy bien los recursos disponibles para crear una atmósfera que me atrapo desde el primer minuto. Aquí se nota la experiencia del cineasta en diversas áreas de la industria. Hace maravillas con pocos personajes y locaciones, transmitiendo una perturbadora sensación durante toda la película.
La estética ochentera, es otro de los aciertos del film. En este caso no es usada por nostalgia, la historia está ambientada en la actualidad, pero los decorados, vehículos y elementos de ciencia ficción, tienen una referencia directa a las películas de la década de los ochenta.
La fotografía de tonos fríos, nos sumergen en el viaje onírico de la Sarah, la protagonista del film. Otro factor que me ha encantado, son los trajes usados por los pacientes que se someten al estudio, todos los artefactos y monitores tienen un aspecto retro, haciendo el film intrigante visualmente.
Definitivamente tengo que ver las anteriores producciones del director, hice una búsqueda rápida en Google y las puntuaciones no son muy altas, pero como yo no creo en las valoraciones que da el público en esas páginas web, igual las voy a buscar, para obtener mi propia valoración.
Sarah's health condition will deteriorate, nightmares worsen after undergoing the experiment. She goes in search of a solution, but the results obtained attract the attention of the group of scientists.
Following the advances in the experiment, Jeremy, one of the scientists in charge, keeps a close eye on Sarah. Soon he will demand answers to what she is feeling, he senses that something is being hidden and that the study is affecting her negatively.
She will discover, and so will we, what the experiment is all about. The scientific team has developed a technique that manages to see small flashes of people's dreams, from the phase in which they enter deep sleep, until nightmares begin to emerge. The images are not very clear, they are mostly shadows of the nightmares.
There is a constant figure in Sarah's nightmares, a dark being, with glowing eyes. This discovery and Sarah's reaction will fascinate the scientists, who seem to be closer to what they want to discover about the dream world.
There are many dreamlike moments throughout the film, which made me wonder at times if everything I was seeing was Sarah's reality or if I was in one of the nightmares.
The last third of the film the narrative is dropped and the director keeps us hooked by the images we see. It is true that the story is left a little aside and more importance is given to the visual aspect, but everything has a reason.
I'm not going to tell spoilers, but I'll just tell you that the closure of the story is excellent. Everything we have seen, which has left us a bit intrigued, asking questions that we do not find how to answer, will be resolved with that hypnotic ending of the story.
El estado de salud de Sarah se verá deteriorado, las pesadillas empeoran después de someterse al experimento. Ella asiste buscando una solución, pero los resultados obtenidos, llama la atención del grupo de científicos.
Tras los avances en el experimento, Jeremy, uno de los científicos encargados, vigilará de cerca a Sarah. Pronto ella exigirá respuestas a lo que está sintiendo, presiente que algo están ocultando y el estudio la está afectando negativamente.
A través de ella descubriremos de qué trata todo el experimento. El equipo científico ha desarrollado una técnica que logra ver pequeños destellos de los sueños de las personas, desde la fase en que entran en sueño profundo, hasta que comienzan a surgir las pesadillas. Las imágenes no son muy claras, son más que todas sombras de las pesadillas.
Hay una figura constante en las pesadillas de Sarah, un ser oscuro, con ojos brillantes. Ese descubrimiento y la reacción de Sarah, fascinará a los científicos, que parecen estar mas cerca de encontrar las respuestas que buscan sobre el mundo de los sueños.
Hay muchos momentos oníricos durante todo el film, lo cual me hizo preguntarme en ciertas ocasiones, si todo lo que estaba viendo era la realidad de Sarah o estaba dentro de una pesadilla.
El último tercio del film la narración se deja a un lado y el director nos mantiene enganchado por las imágenes que vemos. Es cierto que se descuida un poco la historia y se le da mayor importancia al aspecto visual, pero todo tiene un motivo.
No voy a contar spoilers, pero solo les diré que el cierre la historia es excelente. Todo lo que hemos visto, que nos ha dejado un poco intrigado, haciéndonos preguntas que no encontramos como responder, serán resueltas con ese hipnótico final de la historia.
I don't know if everyone who sees this movie will like it after reading this post. I like strange movies, and this one has everything I look for in a movie. It fascinated me. It's not perfect. It has little details, but to me it's better than a lot of other big budget sci-fi/horror movies released lately.
Sometimes I get lonely with my weird tastes, it's hard to find other people with similar tastes. It could be that I fall more in love with the aesthetics of the film and so I don't mind the little narrative details that are skipped in the script. But with that great ending, I find the whole story explained.
Another aspect of the film that I liked, is that we discover things in due time, and the film shows it to us, it doesn't treat us as dumb viewers to whom every detail has to be explained. We make our own discoveries and draw our own ideas and conclusions.
No estoy seguro si gustará a todos los que logren verla después de leer este post. Me gustan las películas extrañas, y esta tiene todo lo que busco en un film. A mí me ha fascinado. No es perfecta. Tiene pequeños detalles, pero para mí, es mejor que muchas otras películas de ciencia ficción y terror de alto presupuesto que se estrenan últimamente.
A veces me siento solo con mis gustos raros, es difícil encontrar otras personas con similares gustos. Puede ser que me enamore más de la estética del film y por eso no me importa los pequeños detalles narrativos que se saltan por alto en el guión. Pero con ese gran final, le encuentro explicación a toda la historia.
Otro aspecto positivo, es que vamos descubriendo las cosas a su debido tiempo, y el film lo muestra, no nos trata como espectadores tontos que hay que explicar cada detalle. Vamos haciendo los descubrimientos y sacando nuestras propias conclusiones.
Copperheart Entertainment, owned by Steven Hoban, and Angel Entertainment are the companies in charge of producing the film. Filmmaker Vincenzo Natali, director of the cult film The Cube, is one of the executive producers. Having this filmmaker as one of the producers gives an important support to the film.
The screenplay was written by Anthony Scott Burns with the help of the other screenwriter, Daniel Weissenberger. All other technical aspects were done by Scott Burns, as I said at the beginning of the post. He is an all-round filmmaker, he reminds me of when I made my first short film, where I had to do everything. In this way, the filmmaker maintains total creative control of his work.
As the director is a musician, he worked together with Pilopriest and Electric Youth to create all the music for the film, composed of many electronic sounds that complement all the strange and disturbing dreamlike scenes. The electronic scores are influenced by the 1980s.

The film features a small group of actors, of which only two are the most relevant.
Julia Sarah Stone plays Sarah, the young woman who suffers from constant nightmares and serious sleep problems. The actress is fascinating in her interpretation, she is totally devoted to her character, in every scene you can feel the magnetism that her character exerts. This actress is from Canada and started acting as a child, but I have only seen her previous film: Allure. She has in her filmography several independent films whose plot seems interesting, now I want to see more of her previous works. Her acting and her look have left me enchanted.
Landon Liboiron plays Jeremy, one of the scientists in charge of the experiment and who ends up falling in love with Sarah. The actor does a good job, it is a supporting role, but very important in the story. I had already seen the actor in the series Hemlock Grove and Frontier. Some will recognize him from his work in the series Terra Nova.
The cast is rounded out by Christopher Heatherington as Dr. Meyer, head of the entire research project, an enigmatic character who is unsettling in the scenes he appears in. Actress Tedra Rogers plays Zoe, a member of the team of scientists conducting the study. And Carlee Ryski plays Anita, a friend of Sarah's. There are other completely unknown actors playing other young scientists in the project.

Julia Sarah Stone interpreta a Sarah, la joven que sufre de constantes pesadillas y graves problemas de sueño. La actriz es electrizante en su interpretación, está totalmente entregada a su personaje, en cada escena se siente el magnetismo que ejerce su personaje. Esta actriz es de Canadá y comenzó a actuar desde que era una niña, pero solo he visto de ella su anterior film: Allure. Tiene en su filmografía varias películas independientes cuyo argumento se ven interesantes, ahora quiero ver más trabajos anteriores de ella. Su actuación y su look me han dejado encantado.

Come True was screened last year at the Sitges Film Festival, garnering several positive reviews. For me, it is an excellent sci-fi/horror film, which should be more widely distributed and seen by more audiences.
A disturbing story, with an incredible aesthetic, it is very well made, a protagonist that traps us inside her nightmare and has a surprising ending. I was fascinated by it and I hope some of you like this movie.

Come True fue proyecta el año pasado en el Festival De Sitges, obteniendo varias críticas positivas. Para mí, es una excelente película de ciencia ficción y terror, que debería obtener mayor difusión y ser vista por más público.
Una historia perturbadora, con una increíble estética, muy bien rodada, una protagonista que nos atrapa dentro de su pesadilla y tiene un sorprendente final. Yo quedé hechizado y espero que a alguno de ustedes le guste este film.
