This movie came out with a lot of negative critiques, about how goofy it appeared and how everything made no sense. There were even funny but creative memes illustrating how completely ridiculous the movie's entire act was. Apparently, some people were expecting to see "Thor Son of Odin", but instead they got "Thor the lost God". And even though people are correct about the movie in general, I still believe the movie Is worth the watch.
The movie starts on a very high note, introducing us to Thor's adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. And if you are still thinking...allow to me say that it's everything you would expect from a Thor and the guardians of the Galaxy team up. From beautiful and creative chaos to breathtaking destruction, it is simply a cure for depression. Filled with a lot of what the fuck!! Moments and others. This particular team-up reminds me of a particular tv-show on Nickelodeon, Henry Danger. Where the two heroes would venture out to save people, and that singular act always saw to the destruction of properties unnecessarily. Hence its' comedic genius.
I particularly enjoy the screaming goats, although their voices were almost human in the creepiest way possible. And even though I have seen a lot of goats, I have rarely come across one as big as the one in this movie. When Thor tried taking them on the spaceship and was met with backlash from Guardians, and he quickly replied that the goats could be turned to meat if they continued with the disturbance, the expression of the goats to this statement was absolutely priceless. Although the guardians did feature in this film, they added nothing significant to this movie other than their presence, which lasted for about 20- 30 minutes.
Jane Foster(Natalie Portman), The Mighty Thor, as she would prefer to be addressed, gave quite a believable acting as Jane Foster, than as the mighty Thor. And I'm not trying to be gender biased or anything it's just how I felt. Even her death didn't phase me, it had me thinking that I am truly evil for sharing no emotional sympathy for the hero's love interest. Now that I think about it, I didn't feel any chemistry between the two Thor, apart from the moment they kissed. It was just horrendous and awkward...mostly awkward, that's probably why I didn't feel anything when she died. But Gorr(Christian Bale) is a different story. Although his whole life story was not properly documented in this movie, the short story of his daughters' death was strong enough to attach purpose to this villain's name. And honestly, I don't blame him for wanting the death of all Gods. I would do the same if I was in his shoes. The idea of Christian Bale's Gorr although vastly untrue, had me rethink my whole life as a religious person, it had me wondering, what is God? Where is God and who is God? It also had me thinking of little stupid ideas like what if LIFE, was just like a Netflix subscription to the Gods and each life on earth, a different channel?? ..... What if, what Gorr's God said to him was true, "The only thing that awaits you after death..is Death". Honestly, my thoughts were really provoked by this simplistic but powerful acting by Christian Bale. If the Idea of Christian Bale's Gorr, is to provoke thoughts and create a new pattern of thinking in religion, I would like to say, it did a good job, although I believe the association of Christians worldwide would happily beat this down.
Thor(Chris Hemsworth) is exactly what we see in the movie trailers, only with a little bit of extra. How do I mean? Okay, you know how people get depressed, especially girls and they almost immediately seek a therapist or a close friend or anyone? Well, since Thor had no one {which I believe is stupendously wrong, as he still rules Asgardians, and still has Korg(TAIKIA WAITITI)}, he decided to conserve with his hammer or hammers. Which I found to be truly weird in a fun way.
I also enjoyed the brief depiction of the Greek gods, especially Zeus, who turned out to be an assholic God. The children's scenes were also quite enjoyable most especially when Heimdall's son was in it(Heimdall was played by Idris Elba). He showed gusto and I really appreciate his performance, especially his last scene (final battle).
The plot of this movie was very much unnecessary, if you ask me I would say that the title needs to be changed from Thor Love and Thunder to Gorr: All Gods Must Die! Because it sparks a lot more intent, and we are not stuck in a corner waiting for Thor to do something cool, instead we are asking who else is on the list, and will they survive. But sadly the movie still failed to live up to my proposed name, as the backstory was short and very much undiluted. Even the killing of the other Gods which would have added suspense and fear to this movie was greatly overlooked and perhaps cut out. But finally, I did come to understand why the directors and producer chose the name, Thor: Love and Thunder. It's not because of the love affair between Jane Foster and Thor, it's about Gorr's daughter ( who in reality is Chris Hemsworth's daughter), and Jane Foster, who now represents a life sacrificed for love. Jane sacrificed her life to save her love, and Gorr chose love(his daughter) over vengeance while still giving his life in the process.
But despite the movie being fun and all. I still have one question that even logic may fail to answer, and that question is, " how did an ancient message know that the storm breaker(Thor's new hammer) would be created? And most importantly how on earth did they make it a key to another dimension when it never existed, at all?! or are the producers trying to tell me that it's only Jane Foster and Gorr who had the capabilities of deciphering the message?.. well I strongly disagree but do let me know what you think in the comments.
Finally, I do agree that this movie is terrible if you are looking for something serious, action-intensive, and storytelling worthy. But if you are just looking to destress your body and mind. Then I suggest that you make out time to watch this movie, as it is fun, lively, exciting and way less serious than life. Don't forget to add a bowl of popcorn and soda while you chill.. 💯🔥.
