Society functions as a system where all people must play a role within it in order to be accepted as socially "useful" individuals. If by some limitation a person is not engaged in this system, he is excluded from the circle and becomes part of another minority sub-sector of society. These numerically smaller groups have common characteristics that define them, such as: religion, sexual condition, race, socio-economic level and disability, for example.

There are laws and international treaties to protect minority sectors considered vulnerable, such as people with disabilities who, due to their physical or intellectual conditions, find it more difficult to integrate into the social system. A few weeks ago I saw a film that talks about this topic, it is a moving story that is worth seeing.

It is a drama film released in 2017 under the direction of Stephen Chbosky, it is the film version of the novel "The lesson of August" written by Raquel Jaramillo Palacio in 2012. This book is a successful youth novel that tells the story of "Auggie "(Jacob Tremblay) a ten year old boy who suffers from Treacher Collins syndrome that is characterized by originating congenital facial malformations.

Auggie has undergone multiple surgeries since birth, so his childhood has been spent in hospitals and at home in the care of their parents, his education has been taught only by his mother, he has never been to school. The appearance of his face is shocking to people, so Auggie always hides it under an astronaut helmet.

His mother decides that her ten years is the ideal time to enter conventional education, Auggie's foray into the fifth grade is a very difficult phase in which he has to fight against the rejection and discrimination of his classmates. School is the most traumatic stage of his life, the cruelty of the children towards him plunges him into a deep sadness, finding a friend is the most difficult task presented to him. Auggie is a child with a great intelligence and a noble heart, these virtues will help overcome school bullying, in addition to having the support of his family.

It is a production that touches sensitive issues such as discrimination and bullying decorated in a family environment, the script develops not only the central story, but also the points of view of the other characters. The film is sentimental, rescues moral and family values, with a beautiful message.

The acting of Julia Roberts in the role of the mother is impeccable, we can feel empathy with her and admiration for her strength. This production was highlighted by the incredible transformation of the small actor that earned her Oscar nominations for best makeup, Critics Choice Awards for best young actor and BAFTA for best makeup and hairdressing. I highly recommend this movie, they have not seen it yet.
