The Outfit is the directorial debut of Graham Moore, the same who in 2014 won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work in *The Imitation Game*, this time he presents us with a superb and elegant story of a single location, starring Mark Rylance as Leonard, a meticulous tailor of English origin, whose business in the city of Chicago has as its main client a criminal organization, who take advantage of the facilities of "L. Burling Bespoke" to use it as an intermediary in their clandestine business.

The Outfit es el debut como director de Graham Moore, el mismo que en el 2014 ganó el premio Óscar al Mejor Guion Adaptado por su trabajo en The Imitation Game, en esta ocasión nos presenta una soberbia y elegante historia de una sola locación, protagonizada por Mark Rylance como Leonard, un meticuloso sastre de origen inglés, cuyo negocio en la ciudad de Chicago tiene como principal cliente una organización criminal, quienes aprovechan las instalaciones de “L. Burling Bespoke” para usarla como intermediaria en sus negocios clandestinos

As I already told you the main protagonist of this story is the Oscar-winning veteran, Mark Rylance as The Englishman, accompanied by his assistant Mable played by Zoey Deutch. In this place the mafia has a kind of mailbox that this gangster family uses to pass envelopes and packages clandestinely. Things start to get complicated when Francis (Johnny Flynn) enters with the Boss's son, Richie (Dylan O'Brien) who is wounded by a gunshot and pretends to force the Englishman to stitch the wound after removing the bullet. In order not to make spoilers, I will comment that this will trigger a series of events ranging from suspicion and hunting a snitch to an attempted coup between gangsters, with much intrigue, betrayals and several Plot Twits that lead to an unpredictable ending.

Algo de la Trama

Como ya les comenté el principal protagonista de esta historia es el veterano ganado de Oscar, Mark Rylance como El Inglés, acompañado de su asistente Mable interpretada por Zoey Deutch. En este local la mafia tiene una especie de buzón que esta familia gánster utiliza para pasarse sobres y paquetes clandestinamente. La cosa se comienza a complicar cuando Francis (Johnny Flynn) entran con el hijo del Jefe, Richie (Dylan O'Brien) quien está herido por un disparo y pretenden obligar al inglés para que suture la herida luega de extraer la bala. Para no hacer Spoilers, comentaré que esto irá desencadenando una serie de acontecimientos que van desde la sospecha y caza de un soplón hasta un intento de golpe de estado entre gansters, con mucha intriga, traiciones y varios Plot Twits que desembocan en un final imprevisible.

I loved the staging in The Outfit, I find it very interesting when a story is told in a single location, and I really liked the setting of this one. It reminded me of films like Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope" or Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight". It's a kind of play, with characters coming in and out that need to be well spun by a script that manages to maintain tension and interest, and I think Outfit achieves this in a very entertaining way. I also like the art direction, the costumes and the photography that Graham Moore combines in shots with a composition that I found very attractive visually. Mark Rylance does a very accomplished job, With the Englishman omnipresent, he rides the film on his shoulders in a very natural and admirable way. All this with the timely score by the award-winning Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Shape of Water).

La puesta en escena

La puesta en escena en The Outfit me ha encantado, se me hace muy interesante cuando una historia se cuenta en una sola locación, y me agrado mucho la ambientación de esta. Me recordó películas como “Rope” de Alfred Hitchcock o “The Hateful Eight” de Quentin Tarantino. Es una especie de obra de teatro, con entrada y salida de personajes que deben estar bien hilado por un guion que logre mantener tensión e interés, y creo que Outfit lo logra de forma muy entretenida. También estaco la dirección de arte, el vestuario y la fotografía que Graham Moore combina en planos con una composición que me pareció muy atractiva visualmente. Mark Rylance hace un trabajo muy bien logrado, Con el inglés omnipresente, se monta la película sobre sus hombros de forma muy natural y admirable. Todo eso con la oportuna música del galardonado Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel y The Shape of Water)

The Outfit offers a fresh and different proposal, which gives away an enjoyable and entertaining experience, in this 2022 that brings with it the resurgence of Blockbusters and repetitive sequels. With a script that is not perfect, but manages to keep the interest generating tension and intrigue, a (somehow) theatrical experience with intriguing and elegant characters. I think it's worth watching and having a good time. For me it's a 7.5/10, and I recommend it 100%.

The Outfit ofrece una propuesta fresca y diferente, que regala una experiencia agradable y entretenida, en este 2022 que trae consigo el resurgimiento de los Blockbuster y secuelas repetitivas. Con un guion que no es perfecto, pero logra mantener el interés generando tensión e intriga, una experiencia (de alguna manera) teatral con personajes intrigantes y elegantes. Pienso que vale la pena verla y pasar un buen momento. Para mí es un 7.5/10, y la recomiendo al 100%.
