La historia sigue a Papito, un joven actor que vive en "Palo Cagao", el barrio marginal más peligroso de La Habana. Su sueño es escapar de allí con su pequeña compañía de teatro y, sobre todo, conquistar a su amada Yoli. Pero un giro tragicómico lo lleva a un plan descabellado: hacerse pasar por Don Arturo, un anciano español adinerado que muere repentinamente, para viajar a España y traer de vuelta todo el dinero que pueda.
Un Espejo de la Realidad
Lo que más me gusta de esta película es cómo retrata, con un humor inteligente y a veces surrealista, la realidad de una isla donde la supervivencia diaria era (y es) un arte. Papito y su entorno hacen "de todo" por salir adelante, por "alimentarse" no solo de comida, sino de esperanza, de un futuro mejor. La película muestra esa astucia criolla, ese ingenio que nos caracteriza para resolver lo irresoluble.
Como bien dice una reseña que leí, la cinta "refleja la picardía y elocuencia del cubano", y critica la relación de conveniencia entre España y Cuba, donde a veces los extranjeros son vistos como "reyes" que pueden saciar necesidades básicas. Es un espejo incómodo pero necesario.
