A song that makes an impact from the very first second -- I Want to Hold Your Hand - 1964

Today I'd like to share a review of one of the groundbreaking songs that launched The Beatles to massive international fame: the beloved "I Want to Hold Your Hand," one of their iconic tracks.

I remember once we were here as a family watching TV, and at that time they were showing a very famous series from the 60s called The Monster Family. It just so happened that in that particular episode there was a party or something like that, and there was a group called The Moose. This band had four guys with their hair all slicked back, wearing suits, and singing a song that was clearly an imitation, I suppose, of that song. Of course, over the years my brothers and I discovered that the group was a parody of The Beatles, and that was the song. Well, I personally didn't really know who they were; obviously, at that time I was about 8 or 9 years old. And over the years I became a fan of theirs, and I still am.

The song, as is typical of their early compositions, speaks of teenage love, of boys, of courtship—that universal theme—and of course, it's credited to Lennon and McCartney. It was recorded back in Octuber 1963 at EMI Studios in London.

I also remember that after I got into the Beatlemania phase, I listened to it a lot on compilations of their music. I also discovered that it was released as a single, and it had a huge impact on world culture, particularly in North America. Listening to it fills me with a lot of excitement, especially in the middle of the song where they repeat several words and the tone gradually rises. It's very moving to hear them on that track; simply spectacular. I recommend that anyone who hasn't heard it should give it a listen. It's a pleasant, fresh, and incredibly successful song.

I imagine those girls at the concerts screaming and praising them, and their boyfriends all jealous and hesitant, hahaha. It's so funny to imagine, because they performed this song a lot live, at concerts and on radio shows. Nowadays, my brother is also a Beatles fan and listens to them very often, and sometimes we remember this song. We used to remember when we didn't know them and wondered if those moose were also The Beatles, and of course, now we know. We also know a lot more about them, and there are recordings or tracks out there in archives that haven't been released yet—bootlegs or rejected takes. Many are in the record labels' archives, waiting for the public to discover them.

And well, I'd like to tell you that this song features John on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Paul on bass, George on lead guitar, and the ever-reliable Ringo on drums. This song was produced by George Martin and reached number 1 on the Billboard charts in march 1964.
