On this occasion, I bring you one of Lennon's most upbeat songs, not so much for its rhythm, but for its meaning and what he wanted to express with his vision of a better world, of freedoms for all, and of achieving goals for ourselves, using politics as a means to that end. Of course, I'm referring to the song "Revolution."

I see this song as an ode to a free world, a world that is possible without selfishness or constraints. That's how I see it, and I believe John Lennon saw it that way too at the time. Many critics and admirers agree that this song was one of the first forays into social issues and political activism, with all that entailed. In many countries, politics isn't viewed favorably; we all know that. However, everything has a political dimension and a way of doing things in society. I believe politics is present at every human level, and what could be more direct than music? Furthermore, music gives you the power to have many people follow you and accept you, as was the case with Lennon.

I should mention that there are three known versions of this song, all produced by George Martin. There's a slight difference between a take and a version... a take can be a rehearsal or an attempt at a song, while a version is usually a finished song, but with slight changes that ultimately distinguish it. That's the fundamental difference between these terms. Each version is credited to Lennon and McCartney, and they were rehearsed and recorded during the legendary White Album of 1968. The most commercially successful and widely released version came out as a single, the B-side to the hit single "Hey Jude." Another version is much more experimental, over eight minutes long, and includes snippets of conversations, noises, and some sound effects—a style rarely used by other artists. Many music critics call it an experimental sound collage due to its nature. A third version is very similar to the single version but with some changes to the chorus. Lennon definitely believed that a better world was possible if we all did our part. In later years, after leaving The Beatles, Lennon composed "Power to the People" and "Working Class Hero," among other politically and socially conscious songs.

For me, it's a pleasure to listen to Harrison's slightly distorted guitar, with Lennon and McCartney on lead vocals and backing vocals, while Ringo's drums are powerful and perfectly in sync with the lyrics.

There was a guest artist, Nicky Hopkins, who played the electronic piano; Martin brought him in specifically for this track. Everyone also contributed backing vocals with handclaps. The song is very upbeat; I think it's meant to raise awareness and influence opinions. It's gratifying to know that several artists have covered this song—truly fantastic ones. The song was even used in a Nike advertisement in 1987, almost 20 years after its worldwide release. There was even a lawsuit over the use of the song—truths and curiosities about this track.
