Hey movie fans
It's been a while since I went to the movies and if you haven't been for some time, the insaitable cravings for a popcorn and a slushie will begin to warp your judgement and you'll start seeing movies in a different light. The pickings have been slim of late so I have not paid much attention to whats currently on the big screen.
Eventually my urges started to take over and I decided to give in. I thought it would also be a good ativity to help switch my brain off for a bit which has been running through a few things too much and I needed the break.
When I saw Captain Marvel was out I thought this would be the ideal opportunity to get my snack fix. You know to deny your own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human - Yes that is me quoting Mouse from the Matrix and that was oh so satisfying
What is Captain Marvel About?
Captain Marvel tells us the story of Ver, who is is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. One thing leads to another and she ends up on on Earth in 1995, where she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers.
She enlists the help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.

What thought of Captain Marvel
Before I lay into this film let me start by saying that there is a good story here somewhere, but it's just not told well. There's too much of it crammed within about 115 minutes which gives the movie a quick pace which means you are kept busy but you don't really care about whats happening on screen.
As with previous phase 3 installments "Captain Marvel" has been processed through the same "Marvel filter" as the rest of them. Which leaves you with a dull flick with villians that only serve as cannon fodder, nothing on the line and you can easily predict where this movie will go and you're never in any doubt through out.
The movie is set in the year 1995, and it really feels made for that year's audience. "Captain Marvel" lacks a fresh perspective and seems to borrow liberaly from the failed Green Lantern, I feel like entire scenes and lines were lifted from the DC flop starting Ryan Renolds.
This really does the character Carol Danvers a diservice as they had so much to work with. The comics is one of the craziest in the Marvel universe but the movie simplifies the sotry far too much and does not explain why she is one of the most powerful beings in the universe nor lay down why she is the inspiration for the Avengers initiative.
My biggest disappointment, however, is the resourceful Brie Larson. Who is a brilliant actress but the role just did not seem to suit her, she seemed so lacklustre and really didn't bring much to the character. It felt as if she was given a direction she did not agree with and she just performed to what her contract stipulated.

My rating for Captain Marvel
The movie could have been way better if they didn't focus too hard on trying to make captain marvel "cool" The character feels like a mix between Tony Stark, Thor and Feminist Captain America but the jokes and quips fall flat.
I get she's supposed to be a strong character, but being emotionless doesn't mean a character is strong it just mean's your bland. I was not impressed and this movie was just ok and a great popcorn flick and nothing more.
Marvel had the opportunity to build an powerful female character to add to the roster but gave us a lackluster heroion. I could be wrong and poeple will take to this like they did with Black Panther, which suffered from a few of the same problems.
Any way, rant over, I have to give this movie 5 feminists out of 10
