    Carol Danvers y Capitana Marvel:

    The Characters I Liked:

    Carol Danvers and Captain Marvel:

We meet Carol Danvers, a warrior of an alien race in which her people are in constant struggle against another alien race, her greatest power is to take the physical form completely of each being stealing their identity.

Our friend Carol has a memory loss in which she does not remember anything of her past, causing her a lot of stress in her life, but what bothers her most is that despite all the power she has, her superiors still do not let her participate in this war, because for them our friend is not yet ready.

    Nick Fury:

    Nick Fury:

We meet a young agent of a very peculiar organization and that one day everything would change in his life, since he would meet our friend for the first time and with her beings from other planets.

Seeing this, Nick questions everything about life, since what he believed was impossible, but this is real and happened in front of him, because the race that our friend Carol is at war is already on earth, and took the form of our dear Nick's co-worker.

    Yon-Rogg:

    Yon-Rogg:

Yon-Rogg is the captain of our friend Carol and is part of the Kree Race, he is in charge of teaching Carol to control her powers and guide her on her way until she is ready to go on missions and fulfill her duty.

Being one of the most important commanders of his race, he is the leader of a special squadron and the one who has direct contact with the intelligence that is in charge of his race.

    Talos

    Talos

Talos is the leader of the Skrull race, in which they have the ability to completely change the physical form of the target they choose to copy. Being at constant war with the Kree, they are dedicated to infiltrate the existing planets and stay on them.

When he meets our friend Carol, he decides to kidnap her and access her memories, finding in her the person Talos has been looking for a long time, leading him to enter the planet Earth and chasing our friend to access the information he needs, since our friend escaped him.

      A War of Two Races:

Being two completely different and militarily powerful races, but with certain differences, these are constantly at war, since one of them is dedicated to infiltrate the planets and invade them, and the other to defend those planets that do not have the ability to defend themselves against such threats. But...

Which of the two Races is the one destroying those planets?

One of them is in search of a certain powerful artifact in which both sides are desperately looking for, these two find a clue on the planet where we live, taking it to be the new center of their battles, but what we will see is that thanks to our friend will be forced to stop all this massacre by both sides.

What are they looking for? Will our Captain manage to control her powers? Which of these races is the one that is dedicated to destroying the planets? Will the earth be destroyed?

You'll see when you see this movie!

    Conclusion

I liked the movie, the way it tells the story is good, they take their time to explain things and the details that happen in it, they have good special effects and the soundtrack is good.

The acting of each of the actors is good, each one brings their personality to each role they were given. My favorite actors are Carol Danvers, Nick Fury and Talos.

I really liked the chemistry that Carol and Fury have from the first moment that these two meet and begin to live this new adventure, it shows us that both personalities are compatible even in difficulties.

Seeing how this facet of Fury in which we are not used to see I liked a lot, seeing how this great character has more depth in his story, I liked it, I would love to see a series of this character or a movie, I think it would be what it lacks to have this character complete, it would also work if they show us more of him as they did here, but with another important character accompanying him.

Seeing how the origin of our protectors of the earth is created here I liked it, since they are showing us the reason for the creation of the avengers and a small part of why Fury is the way he is.

Undoubtedly for me the character that leaves us with our mouths open and the one we least expected something, was the best.

Seeing how the fear they have of the power of our captain and the manipulation they give her so that she will be obedient, and let herself be carried away by all the lies she has been told and free herself from all those ties was good as they carried it in the movie.

That breaking point where Carol says enough is enough and breaks her chains and unleashes all that incredible power she possesses and the fear they have of her I really liked.

Also the reason they give us why she didn't stay on the planet and leaves was good, since the movie shows us that she makes that decision, since she was also part of that misfortune that one of the two races suffered.

I liked how Fury tries to convince Talos to become non-living objects, even offering him money to see if he is able to do it.

The audience for this movie is 13 years old and up, it is good for family viewing and enjoyment.

  2. Captain Marvel: the very first heroin of the MCU (ENG - ITA)@serialfiller2245d

    Tunnel Wave.png

In the long 10 year journey that culminated with the incredible and wonderful Avengers: Endgame, Marvel was able to keep the bar straight without giving up risk and experimentation.

While the very first phase allowed us to explore very famous and classic themes and heroes like Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, in the second and third phase we witnessed a change that on the one hand could be seen as cunning, on the other could be considered simply virtuous.

Marvel bet on a bunch of misfit galactic heroes with "The Guardians of the Galaxy", winning the bet.

Then came a miniature hero like Ant-Man who surprised everyone.

Then came the first black hero in the history of superhero cinema with Black Panther who managed to bring the first Oscar nominations.

Kevin Feige's last big bet was just before the arrival of Avengers: Endgame in the theater.

The task of bridging the gap between Infinty War and Endgame and increasing the expectation was the first female heroine in the Marvel universe.

To play Captain Marvel was called one of the most awarded actresses of the last 5 years: Brie Larson. The film is approached as a true origin story that sees us travel through the galaxy to quickly return to Earth.

Blockbuster shops still existed, Nick Fury still had both eyes and was very young and Phil Coulson a new SHIELD agent.

The choice is right because not only allows us to meet one of the most powerful heroes of the MCU but also to learn more about Nick Fury's past life and how the Avengers project was born. At what exact moment and for what needs.

The villains of this story are quite weak and the narration is not very original, but in essence the linearity of the story and the staging, combined with the excellent performances of the main characters, did not disappoint the viewer.

Another fundamental piece is put and those who have seen Endgame know how much the presence of Captain Marvel was necessary and timely.

As always, piece after piece, Marvel has not failed and has shown for the umpteenth time that she knows how to keep the narrative coherence high and how to manage such a large number of characters and stories without any smear, even when the film is not top 10 as in this case.

  3. Captain Marvel – Spoiler Review@readingdanvers2261d

    Captain Marvel poster.jpg

Yeah. I love this movie. After about a month in quarantine I needed something to cheer me up and this movie was it. I haven't watched it as much as I should have and I actually forgot how much I like it.

When the movie starts it follows Vers (played by Oscar winner Brie Larson), a solider of the Kree Empire with the power to shoot blasts from her hands. She thinks that her power was given to her by the Kree. She lives on Hala, the home planet of the Kree Empire and has no memories of her life on Earth. She has nightmares that are flashes, but nothing concrete. Her commander/friend Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) is the one that helps her with her insomnia and her struggles with her past.

The movie starts when after a few flashbacks in her sleep she goes to Yon-Rogg and asks him to train with her. In the middle of the night. His advices to her are terrible clichés. If you've read Captain Marvel comic you know that Yon-Rogg is the villain no matter what the trailers for the movie shows you and no matter how friendly he comes across at the start of the movie.

When Vers accidently blasts Yon-Rogg during this friendly training session she is sent to the Supreme Intelligence. The Supreme Intelligence in the movie looks like the person you admire the most. A person that Vers she doesn't remember. Gone is the ugly green head from the comics, and in comes Annette Bening who has a double role in the movie. When the Supreme Intelligence reminds Vers that the Skrulls, the race of shape shifting aliens, are threatening their Empire and the lives of their people, you know it is some powerful manipulation. Especially since the only thing Vers remembers from her past is being attacked by Skrulls. Despite her struggles with her past and her emotions the Supreme Intelligence tells Vers that she can continue to serve the Kree.

    Captain Marvel hair.jpg

Vers is on a mission with her team, the Starforce. Which includes Djimon Hounsou who plays Korath, here and in Guardians of the Galaxy. Gemma Chan has a tiny role as Minn-Erva, no wonder she got a bigger role in the Eternals, her rising star in Hollywood requires something more. The rest of the Starforce crew barley have anything to do in the movie. They arrive on a planet called Torfa for a rescue mission and land underwater. Vers' hair in the helmet is a clear wink at her comic book iconic hairstyle, the mohawk. Kelly Sue DeConnick, the comic book writer, who cameos in this movies, created this hairstyle for the character.

The rescue mission goes wrong. The Starforce crew find themselves surround by Skrulls and the person that they came to rescue is revealed to also be a Skrull. Vers finds this out when she tries to rescue her fellow Kree in the middle of a dangerous conflict. She is that kind of an awesome and yet irresponsible character. Which is why she ends up being captured by the Skrulls.

    Captain Marvel memory machine.jpg

When Vers wakes up she is trapped inside a machine that pocks at her memories. A machine that looks a lot like the Psycho-probe that the Super-Skrull used in order to download Mar-Vell's memories in Captain Marvel #3, 1986. Well, she is stuck upside down in the machine, but it still looks like a similar design. When the Skrulls are looking at her memories, she sees the woman that the Supreme Intelligence becomes in her mind, Dr. Wendy Lawson. Yes, they gender bended Walter Lawson, the first Captain Marvel. Well, the first Timely Comics (which later became Marvel comics) Captain Marvel. Obviously I don't care. This just takes out the possibility that we will ever see Walter Lawson on the big screen and I doubt that Bening will be interested in a solo movie, or more cameos. I think Monica Rambeau is the future direction for a different Captain Marvel, or she will just become her own superheroine. But, back in the movie, the Skrull's are looking for Lawson's light speed engine.

Vers is confused by the situation she has found herself in, but she makes a fast recovery. She breaks free from the shackles of the machine and escapes from the Skrulls' ship. After accidently destroying it, because her powers broke the ship. Oops.

She escape in a pod which falls apart. She lands on Earth. Well, more correctly she crashes into a Blockbuster store. You can't get any more 90s than that. She manages to transform a phone into an inter-space communicator and calls Yon-Rogg. Then S.H.I.E.L.D finds her. Well more correctly Nick Fury and rocky Coulson find her. They are both de-aged pretty good I think. Unless you look at pictures of them in the 90s, which you won't think about while you're watching the movie. While Vers tells them about the Skrulls, one shows up and attacks her. And a really cool chase/fight scene starts. When she fights with the grandmother on the train because she realizes it's a Skrull, it is hilarious. Also, all the people try and stop her, and they can't. They just see someone hitting a really athletic elderly lady. But the Skrull escapes, after leaving Vers a clue. While that is happening Fury finds out that a Skrull is impersonating Coulson and is sitting next to him. That's an awkward moment.

Vers searches for the location in the clue, in an internet-café. Which is so 90s. Everything looks so 90s. The computer, the keyboard, getting disconnected, even the dialing sound, everything taking so much time to upload or search. She even takes out a giant map to look at the location. When she heads outside some random guy asks her to smile for him, which she obviously doesn't. But she does take a cue from what he says, he calls her lady in a scuba-suit. So obviously she steals some new clothe. Along with his bike. A very Terminator 2 look for her.

On her new location she meets Fury who agrees to help find Pegasus after a really funny exchange between them. When they find the secret project that Lawson was working on, they found out that it failed. Vers sneakily finds out that she was a pilot that crushed during the testing of Lawson's plane and that her name is Carol Danvers and not Vers. Fury also finds a cat walking around the halls, Goose. Now I know that I am nitpicking, but in Danvers' memories Lawson calls the cat she, and Fury call the cat he. I don't know which of them is wrong, but it bugs me. But still, that cat is sooooo cute.

Fury is not cute. He calls in for backup. We already know that his boss is a Skrull, but he only finds that out when they get into an elevator together. The Skrull calls him Nicolas instead of Fury. How awkward. Fury and Danvers escape on a plane which she flies, with Goose tagging along.

They fly to visit Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). The last person who saw Lawson and the mystery nor so mystery pilot. Danvers finds out that Rambeau is actually her long lost friend which she sees in her short flashbacks. This entire plot reminds me of the Rogue and Ms. Marvel plot from the comics. Only here Danvers doesn't lose her powers, just her memories. But like in the comics, she doesn't have any feeling of attachment to the memories that she does have. Rambeau is shocked, but with the help of Rambeau's daughter Monica Rambeau (Akira Akbar) they reconnect. Sort of.

That's when Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) shows up in Rambeau's house. While listening to the black box of the crash, Danvers remembers all of the details of her accident. She remembers being attacked by aliens while flying with Lawson to test her plane. She remembers getting hit and crashing. And now instead of a Skrull, she remembers that it was Yon-Rogg who killed Lawson. In order to prevent Yon-Rogg from obtaining the light speed engine Danvers shoots the damaged plane and it explodes. Instead of absorbing the powers of Lawson through the Psyche-Magnitron, like she did in the comics, now she indirectly absorbs the powers of the Tesseract. She is now a weapon so Yon-Rogg takes her back with him to Hala. She realizes that she has been manipulated and she is not happy about it.

She is more confused than ever about her identity. But Maria Rambeau reminds Danvers who she really is underneath the flashes of memories. That didn't work so well in the comics, trying to talk to Danvers about her past, but it appears to have worked here. Or maybe not considering the fact that Danvers never really returned to Earth. But young Monica helps Danvers adjust the colors of her costume to something more appropriate so that now she no longer looks like she is on the side of the Kree in this war.

Then Maria, Carol, Fury and Talos head off to space to try and find Lawson's lab. Along with Goose. You can't forget that lovable furry kitty. They find the lab in orbit around Earth and the Tesseract is on it. They also find more Skrulls and Talos' family. Unfortunately, the Starforce arrive and arrest everyone. Danvers is being sent to a treatment with Supreme Intelligence. The Supreme Intelligence tries to tell Danvers that she is nothing without the meaning that they gave her and the powers that they gave her. The Supreme Intelligence brings back all of her painful human memories of failure and rejection, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and Danvers, like always, gets back up. She realizes that her powers are her own and breaks the inhibitor on her neck, which didn't give her powers, but stopped them. And in my favorite scene in the movie, she goes Binary as she unleashes her full powers. The breaks the hold of the Supreme Intelligence and she is totally glowing with her hair rising up.

    Binary.jpg

Then she fights the members of the Starforce while the Skrulls try and make their escape. With the help of Goose who eats up the Tesseract along with some Kree soldiers. Danvers wins. Obviously. Maria flies away with the Skrulls but Minerva flies after them. Because she is such a badass who uses the territory she knows so well in her favor Maria blows up Minerva's ship.

Danvers ends up with her big fight against Yon-Rogg and the accusers that show up. But they have nothing on her. While Yon-Rogg flies away, she gets blasted into space and she learns how to fly. So she shoots down Yon-Rogg's plane. When the accusers arrive, she pushes away their missiles, blasts their fighting planes, everything except for their main ship is destroyed basically. They leave. She is too powerful and intimidating for them to handle. Although Ronan is interested in acquiring Danvers and refers to her as a weapon. Secret Invasion with Kree instead of Skrulls as the bad guys maybe coming in the future?

In the end it is only her and Yon-Rogg on Earth. He tells her that he is proud of her and that she should fight him without her powers in order to prove herself to him. She shoots him and tell him in a very iconic way that she has nothing to prove to him. Damn.

In the end Danvers leaves with the Skrulls to help them find a new home. In a way it makes sense. Despite her new formed bond with Maria, she spent most of the life that she remembers in space and that is where she wants to return to. But, if you watched other Marvel movies, you know that the Skrulls part doesn't make any sense.

I am not sure that Fury calling the Avengers after Danvers' airplane name makes sense either. But in a way it does. She was the first super powered person that he encountered. But in other movies he says that he had no idea about aliens and other threats until Thor. So I am not sure how much it all makes sense. But Fury is a good liar so maybe it does. And the way Fury lost his eye. Come on, give me a break. It's so not what everyone expected after Winter Soldier.

Goose puking the Tesseract like it's a fur ball in the post credit scene was hilarious.

The script was a bit not so great. I mean it felt more like a Marvel phase 1 movie than phase 3, and you defiantly did not have to watch it in order to understand Endgame. This can easily be explained by everyone who worked on the movie. The directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck came from TV and they didn't do anything too impressive there, the writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote Tomb Raider before this movie. A movie which I enjoyed, but not because of its script. All of these mediocre behind the scenes people were fired from the sequel.

But it was one heck of a fun movie. All the cat gags worked. Totally. The 90s vibe worked. The score and the soundtrack were awesome. Fury was brilliant. It feels like the movie took a lot of elements from Rogue vs. Ms. Marvel comic book storyline and it totally worked. Origin movies can be boring, but not this one. It was a super fun movie and I enjoy it every time I watch it.

  4. A Captain Marvel review@unbiasedwriter2418d

Celebrating the arrival of Disney+, I took the chance to watch one of the newest Marvel movies today, Captain Marvel. I never got to watch it in the cinema, but I wanted to watch it, so when it came at me included with my Disney+ subscription, I grabbed the chance and streamed it today. Is it worth the time?

I asked myself a question throughout the movie... what did the person feel who set a new Guinness World Record after he had watched this movie 105 or 106 times in the cinema? It might be that I liked to watch it once, but watching it more than 100 times? That sounds crazy... in fact, I don't think there is any movie ever that I would want to watch as often as that, especially in a short time period as we are speaking about in this case. But, let us return to the movie!

    What's up with Captain Marvel?

Bree Larsson, a person I remember well from the movie Room, is the new superhero in the Marvel Universe. We don't know much about her at the start of the movie, but once it comes to an end, we have learned a whole lot about her. This movie does very well in bringing a new character into our hearts, and it comes with drips of information throughout the 120 minutes you sit in front of the screen.

At first, Captain Marvel doesn't really consider herself to be anyone special. She doesn't even call herself Captain Marvel. But, as the movie progresses, she discovers more about her true identity, and also about what her mission is and what she must do to help as many people as possible in the movie.

    captain marvel.jpg

I watched Avengers: Endgame before I watched Captain Marvel, meaning that I first met this character in events that happened after this movie. My first thought there was... we really missed this character in the first movie. If she would have been there, they would have smashed Thanos at once. She simply seems to be so super strong and powerful, that I can hardly believe anyone will ever be able to stop her. And as she shows up on Avengers: Endgame, we see the same again... and we also see the same at the end of Captain Marvel.

I guess the writers can easily come up with a story in which they will be able to make her vulnerable but based on what I have seen in Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, the bad guys will have a hard time whipping the but of Captain Marvel.

bree.jpg Bree Larsson looks really good in her role as Captain Marvel

    Is Captain Marvel worth watching?

I had a great time watching Captain Marvel. Not because it is a movie I will remember for a very long time and because it was superb. Not at all! I enjoyed it because it is a super-hero movie from Marvel, and those are normally easy to like and enjoy for me. I also love the presence of Samuel L. Jackson as I find his humor and character to be great, and that is also why I liked movies such as The Hitman's Bodyguard and lots of other movies starring the same guy.

Captain Marvel also felt like a taste of the Star Wars universe as I looked at the scenes out in space, and that also felt good and entertaining.

In other words, this might not be a super-special-fantastic movie, but it is pure and solid entertainment and a must-see for anyone who loves a good movie from the Marvel Universe.

(Captain Marvel, 2019)@panza2583d

    Marvel1.jpg IMG

  7. Capitana Marvel | Especial de Marvel en La Claqueta 🎬@gorayii2618d

    Capitana Marvel

    ...muchas nueces y poco ruido.

  9. Captain Marvel: Not so Marvelous After All@artgirl2639d

A week or so ago I went and watched Captain Marvel to see if it's really as bad as the haters say. I'm not a fan of the comics nor the lead actress but I was willing to find out the character's story. Even before the movie was made, I think someone else could have played the part better. Even with that in mind, I went and watched with no expectations whatsoever.

Before I forget, feel free to click on the various movie and related links sprinkled in here. A little treat for me won't hurt if you see and buy what you like.

Also, this post is made possible because of @anomadsoul's challenge. Hehe. I might go through with rewatching all the MCU movies. Yay.

And now here's what I think of the movie.

    !!! Warning: SPOILER ALERT !!!

    Don't say I didn't warn you. 😅

    ♠ The Cast ♠

Here are some of the cast members in the movie.

Brie Larson plays Carol Danvers / Vers / Captain Marvel

The star of the movie. She is a human being turned something else, a more powerful one at that.

Annette Bening plays the Supreme Intelligence and Mar-Vell / Dr. Wendy Lawson

She plays two roles, one as the Kree (alien race) artificial intelligence and the other as a rebel Kree scientist disguised as a human scientist on Earth. The latter is Carol Danvers' former boss.

Samuel L. Jackson plays Nick Fury

A CIA agent who meets Vers and helps her in stopping an alien war.

    Jude Law plays Yon-Rogg

Vers' mentor and the commander of the Kree Starforce.

    ♠ The Trailer ♠

    ♠ Synopsis ♠

Captain Marvel is a Marvel superhero's origin story.

It starts out with our hero not able to sleep, then she wakes up her mentor for a bit of sparring. We see how strong she can be and what planet she's on and what the Kree people are like. Eventually she gets captured by the Skrulls, the enemies the Kree are at war with. And then we learn the so-called enemies are not the real bad guys. Whew. No wonder Carol Danvers' old boss became a rebel.

Next we find out who she really is. To save the Skrulls, Captain Marvel also battles it out with her mentor and wins, gives Nick Fury a modified pager for future emergency and goes off to bring the alien race to the place they should go to.

    ♠ ArtGirl's Review ♠

On it's own I'm not impressed with the film at all. If compared to other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies it's not very high on my list. Captain Marvel is way down there with Guardians of the Galaxy.

    ◙ Characters & Story

As far as the story goes, probably due to my bias against the trailers and the lead actress, Captain Marvel really did fail to impress me. I mean, I'd say her back story is kinda normal enough. Haha. Blame it on my seeing too many sci-fi fantasy movies/TV series and reading enough books and comics in the same genre. This is what makes me confidently say, nope, Captain Marvel's origin is not that special after all.

Even the twist near the end is so-so compared to Ant-Man's movie plot twist. Not really mind-blowing but okay I'll take it. Give me some Jude Law anytime. Hahaha.

As for the characters, well it's nice to see how Nick Fury and Agent Coulson were back when they were younger. That's the only part I like about the story. As for Captain Marvel... Let's just say based on the way she's portrayed and if I met the character in person, we probably wouldn't like each other. She doesn't have enough damage and angst maybe? Or let's say she's pure like how the Beast from Split calls them. See below.

Even after what she's been through, she's just like Superman and a lot less like Batman. (Oh hey DC characters!) Maybe it's all because she's not as kick-ass as we expected her to be?

If I was to compare the level of amazingness of this film to other MCU movies, I'd say it's very far from Ant-Man or even the Iron Man movies. Wonder Woman is even better imho. 😅

Come to think of it, maybe I'd write a post and rank the MCU movies from the best to the worst after I've rewatched them all again. Or maybe even before I rewatch them... Hehe.

    ### ◙ Acting As far as acting goes... I think the award should go to Jude Law. After all, he's the main reason I watched it, that and the fact that I have to know the story before I watch Avengers: End Game.

    uwzrr8m5t1.png Source

To be fair to Brie Larson, I commend her for her dedication to the role. I guess she did her best. There aren't much notable fight scenes aside from what's already in the trailers but still I'd like to give her credit for taking all those training just for the lead role.

The most notable actor in the film is probably... Uhm... Let's see... how about nobody? 😂 Probably I'll give it to three people: Jude Law, Carol Danvers' best friend and Annette Bening. Also, people all over the net are crazy over the cat but I'm not. Even if I'm a cat lover I'm not impressed. 😏

    ### ◙ Cinematography, Production Design & Music Let's talk about the movie theme music first. It's not too memorable and somehow slightly reminds me of a tame version of Man of Steel's theme or something. I guess it's good enough for [Captain Marvel](https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5337936266&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2334524.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.A0.H0.TRS1%26_nkw%3Dcaptain%2Bmarvel%2Bmusic%26_sacat%3D0%26LH_TitleDesc%3D0%26_osacat%3D0%26_odkw%3Dcaptain%2Bmarvel%2Bmusic%26LH_TitleDesc%3D0). I mean, it's just her costume that's flashy really. Sorry to the fans but maybe I just don't really like how she's portrayed, especially since I admire Rogue more. (Uhmmm... 😂)

A few songs in the soundtrack are nostalgic but most are not likable. Sad really. I prefer the Alias soundtrack more. Oh wait, I like Celebrity Skin the most. 😆

Anyway since I didn't bother watching this movie on the big screen I can say I'm not overly impressed with the CGI. It is less eye-catching than Jupiter Ascending and is not enough to make my eyes sparkle like it did for the Bifrost bridge in Thor. The graphics are still commendable even if I don't love it.

I did enjoy Goose the cat's scenes where it ate a lot of aliens and then some. Haha.

What's the best part of the movie, design wise? Well the aliens, the time-period look and costumes. Captain Marvel's costume color change is the most spectacular thing in it. Oh and some of Captain Marvel's glowing moments too. Hehe.

    6un6ljfscd.png Source

    ### ◙ Rating Based on what I shared above, here's my rating for each part on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest:
    • Characters & Story: 5
    • Acting: 6.5
    • Cinematography, Production Design & Music: 8

So what's the final score? It's 6.5 out of 10 stars for me. 😊

Should you watch it if you haven't yet? Well, you're not really going to miss much except that her powers are from the vital machine core the Kree scientist made.

How about you, did you like the movie or not? 😉

(In other news, I think I'm going to love Shazam... Imma watch it later!)

  10. A Geeky Dad's Movie Guide to Captain Marvel (2019)@hanshotfirst2665d

Let's cut to the chase. Captain Marvel is an incredibly fun ride and an essential component of the Avengers saga.

*She's not what you think she is... she's better!*

In case you forgot the gasps you heard from the nerds surrounding you as you watched the post credit scenes from Avengers: Infinity War, that film ends with Nick Fury frantically engaging a tricked out 1990s beeper as he turns to dust. When the super fans saw the star and blue and red emblem that filled the pager's screen, they were so giddy that they actually forgot about the Hot Pockets waiting for them at home. I was one of those geeks. As soon as I saw it, I pumped my fist and exclaimed:

    Captain Marvel!

By the end of Infinity War, Thanos has become the most powerful villain anyone has ever seen. Its not everyday one being ends the existence of 5 trillion living creatures. And yet for some reason, Captain Marvel's insignia is supposed to give us hope that all is not lost. Perhaps Thanos can be defeated after all.

The creators of Captain Marvel had one job: they needed to give us hope that Thanos' victory is not a forgone conclusion. They needed to explain to the masses why geeks like me were so psyched. They had to let everyone know that perhaps Thanos should be worried that his genocide might actually fail because...

Captain Marvel is a freaking bad ass!

That sounds like a such a simple job, and yet countless creative teams have failed to shoot the proverbial fish in a barrel (I'm looking at you The Last Jedi). Luckily for Marvel fans, the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck not only did their main job, but provided a ton of entertainment and an actual story. By the end of this film, everyone knows that Thanos should be shaking in his boots.

Because this is an origin story, it does not quite reach the level of my two favorite Marvel movies (Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnorok). Origin stories always seem to suffer from the required middle act that explains enough about the characters so you care about them later in the series. These middle acts typically slow down the pace and take up valuable "blowing stuff up real good" time. Although a bit less fun, these pieces are essential elements of the overall story.

This "slow" part may be where Captain Marvel truly excels. The story of Carol Danvers is a fascinating one. The characters she meets are interesting and fun. I was a little worried when the creators began telling Danvers' origin in a non-linear fashion. Because there were many children and non-comic book readers in the audience (including my own 11 year old daughter MJ), I was concerned that the twists, turns, time leaps, and fragmented memories would be too difficult to follow. I found myself lamenting, "Man I wish they just told this story from begging to end. This is too confusing." And then it hit me. This technique was brilliant and essential. Carol Danvers fighting to remember her past is a HUGE piece of the story. The audience needed to struggle right along with her. This makes it all the more satisfying when the pieces finally come together in spectacular fashion (and believe me it is spectacular).

Once again, the producers hit a home run with the casting. Although I like Brie Larson and think she is a very talented actress, I was a bit unsure of her ability to pull this off. To be fair, I had even bigger worries when I heard Chris Evans would be playing Captain America 8 years ago. I cannot believe how wrong I was on both counts. Brie Larson is perfect in this role. She is smart, funny, cocky and tough... just like Captain Marvel. She handles the physical aspects of the role well and did a fine job acting along side a cat to whom she is terribly allergic (had to throw this one in there for my fellow allergy sufferers).

Samuel Jackson has been, is, and always will be the perfect Nick Fury. This movie is no exception. In fact, young Nick Fury is now my son's favorite Marvel character. He especially loved that Fury did not have to be serious and was quite funny. While Ben Mendelsohn Jude Law, and Annete Bening are good enough actors to make you forget you are watching a movie featuring people running around in rubber suits and blowing things up half the time, Lashana Lynch was especially noteworthy. She portrays Danvers' best friend, Maria Rambeau and mother to the spunky Monica Rambeau (whose character is the same age as my daughter).

    *Giphy*

As has become the norm in every Marvel movie, the effects are fantastic. I was lucky enough to see it in a Dolby Theater. The sound and visuals blew me away. It was well worth the extra money to see it in the highest quality theater. Speaking of sound, the soundtrack is chock-full of some really cool 90s music.

The fact that the movie took place in the 1990s also allowed the creators to have some fun and include Blockbuster Video and Dial-up internet jokes. Although not as funny as Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Ragnorok, or Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel included just enough humor to avoid the appearance that the movie was taking itself too seriously (rubber suits and explosions... remember). My entire family found themselves laughing out loud on several occasions. Although not all belly laughs, none of the jokes were duds either.

But of course none of what I have written would matter if the movie did not deliver the incredible action sequences we have grown to expect from Marvel. Captain Marvel delivered on this promise... and then some. This film follows the typical formula of an opening action scene, a middle sprinkled with a few battles in between story development all leading to a spectacular final battle. While the opening and middle action sequences are good, the final battle is simply marvelous! I honestly could not believe what Captain Marvel (and the special effects team) were doing to those poor enemies. You will have to see it to believe it.

Is the movie perfect? No. Are there a few plot holes? Of course. Is it fun? Absolutely!

Before I sign off, I have a couple of tips for you. First, get to the theater early. You don't want to miss the Marvel title sequence. I guarantee you that it will make you want to exclaim, "Excelsior"! Second, you may want to stay until the very end of the credits. There are two post-credit scenes. The first is essential for the story. The second one is fun.

  12. Captain Marvel (film): A good movie that I'm glad I saw@gooddream2668d

I don't know if you follow the news at all surrounding this film but the media was really hyping up the fact that Brie Larson made some social justice warrior comments about the press tour that annoyed a bunch of people - and I found their anger kind of acceptable. However, i find the knee-jerk reaction to Hollywood people just doing and saying dumb things almost as annoying as the original actions. People were calling for a boycott and making thousands of negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes as a "backlash" for her comments. I just wanted to see a good movie and Marvel movies, although they tend to have quite weak storylines, are normally very entertaining in the cinema.

For more than a decade, seeing gigantic blockbuster films was not an option for me because my smaller size city in the south of Thailand very rarely featured films in English - they would have a film like this, but the entire thing would be overdubbed in Thai. I can understand Thai but the emotion in the actor's voices is totally lost when they do this. I do not watch overdubbed movies in any language because you aren't really getting the original product at all when you do this - therefore I just skipped most movies and waited for the online or Netflix release.

The story follows Vers (Brie Larson) who is a warrior for the Kree Empire. She is apparently an elite operative that infiltrates the number one enemy of the Kree, the Skrulls - a group of creepy looking shape-shifting aliens who can take on the look of anything that they see. The action in the initial attack is wonderful, and the movie doesn't let up from there. The fast-paced nature of this film continues almost without break although there is a bit of a dead zone with Vers having a long string of dialogue about 2/3 of the way through the film.

Vers clearly has immense power, but hasn't yet mastered it and is constantly told by her mentors that she must control her emotions. This is told in the first few minutes of the movie so no, it isn't a spoiler. The training sequences between her and "Yon-Rogg" who is played by a Jude Law that somehow managed to grow back a majority of his badly receding hair are impressive to say the least.

    [source](https://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2019/01/Jude-Law-in-Captain-Marvel-720x359.jpg)

I liked the way that this film is tied into other aspects of the Marvel Universe, in particular the Avengers, which we all know was left on a bit of an exciting cliffhanger at the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War.

I found this to be one of the more exciting of the past several Marvel films and thoroughly enjoyed it. However I am not without a bit of complaint in that I feel that Vers is a bit too powerful. She doesn't really appear to have any sort of weakness. I suppose I feel about her the same way that I feel about Thor - too strong. I never read the comic books so I have no idea what her weakness could possibly be. It just makes me feel more bad for Jeremy Renner I suppose.

Overall I would say to not get sucked into the political hype on this one because it was a very nice cinematic experience although i definitely could have done without the 4D aspect of the theater. This movie is well worth the price of admission and I believe it will be a fun ride for kids as well as adults. I can't give it the highest marks because at the end of the day it is still a Marvel film and the predictability of outcome is always something that eliminates their movies from receiving top marks.

On a scale of "Urgh!" to "Wowsers!" I give Captain Marvel a score of

    "Yip-Yip-Yip!"

  13. Captain Marvel - Movie Review@coldsteem2668d

Captain Marvel is among the movies to be released in 2019 that I have been waiting most anxiously for. With Avenger: End Game right around the corner, the introduction of a final piece of the puzzle helps raise questions as to how the pieces will fit together. The character is intriguing. The trailers have been titillating. So how was the delivery?

Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) is known to her Kree counterparts as "Veers" (spelled Vers). Her fragmented memories were shattered during an explosion that gifted her with special powers. However, Vers has trouble controlling her emotions. Which translates into trouble controlling her powers. Vers is dispatched on a mission to rescue a Kree before the Skrull locate and debrief him. The mission is a trap. Veers is kidnapped and interrogated by the Skrull, providing more glimpses into Danvers history. Danvers unleashes her power to escape from the Skrull, landing her on Earth. The year appears to be 1995. Danvers immediately crosses paths with a much younger Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Together, they begin unraveling the truth about the Kree-Skrull war and how Danvers fits into the story. As the story unfolds, Danvers slowly remembers her past and begins to grow into her full superhero magnificence.

I was surprised when Black Panther was nominated for best picture at the Oscars a few weeks ago. The film had a weak, slow-paced back story that was more "set up" than story. Delivering a character, complete with backstory is not an easy task. It can be slow and tedious as we saw in Black Panther. The approach to delivering Danvers' back story was much better. The story-telling had a better flow. Rather than trying to squeeze in too much information, this film picks up the history through snippets of memory. It is worked seamlessly into the broader story, which remains mostly back story. Yet it is complete in terms of story telling. You get an entire film that can stand on its own without relying on previous or future films. Although that would be ridiculous. I have a feeling we will see plenty more out of Captain Marvel. My biggest complaint was that her character felt a bit flat at times. I get that she is really pissed off, but for an "emotional human" she lacked a bit of emotion. Unless "pissed off" counts as the full range of emotions. A little more range would have been nice. Overall, this film had strong writing.

There seems to have been some flap about Brie Larson being cast in the lead role. It sounds political...I read the headlines and moved on. I don't care about Larson's politics. I didn't want my impression of her or this film to be shaded by stupid things she may (or may not) have said in the past. I thought she was great as Danvers. I would have liked to have seen a bit more range, but I would chalk that more up to the writing. I liked Jude Law as her mentor. I am not a fan of Samuel L. Jackson, which kind of sucks since he is sort of the glue that holds the Avengers together. I wish they would have cast someone else in that role. His overexposure and lack of range irritates me. He is the same character in every film I have ever seen him in. Annette Bening and Lashana Lynch have smaller roles. They were both solid as well. I was satisfied with the casting.

One of the highlights of Captain Marvel was the setting. The film takes place in 1995. The time frame added a campy element to the story, setting up some cheesy fun. References to Blockbuster Video and Radio Shack help establish the era, while later references in the dialogue suggest it to be 1995 more precisely. Fury has a text pager, which, along with dial up connections, felt kind of accurate. However, I would point out that DSL was fairly ubiquitous by 1995. The look of the props added legitimacy to the era, with only minor glitches. I think they may have done the slow computer speed gag one time too many. But overall, it was kitschy fun.

Marvel is adept at threading the needle for PG-13 ratings. Captain Marvel is no different. The film earned a PG-13 for relatively minor thematic material. There is a subtle reference to the size of alien "junk." There is plenty of violence and battle scenes which undoubtedly result in death. The gore factor is minimal, with a heavy dose of blue blood thrown in for good measure. There are a few examples of strong language, to include a not-so-humorous play on words that fell flat for me. Overall, your basic superhero violence and a bit of suggestive themes thrown in for good measure. Not too objectionable. Tweens, teens and older. Maybe younger. The material could cause nightmares, so good judgment in deciding an age range is the best guide. Run time is two hours, four minutes.

Captain Marvel was a fun romp into the back story of yet another Avenger. Possibly the first avenger. At least from one perspective. The writing was mostly good. Danvers could have had a wider range of emotions. The writing could have been better, but was solid. The casting was good. Most importantly, the pacing was spot on with some great chase and battle scenes. All augmented with great CGI. I went to the late matinee showing in iMax. The theater was sold out. I rarely see that. It is a good indicator that this film/franchise is going to go big. I am sure it will also infuse new interest in the continuing Avengers saga. Worth watching at the theater. 7.5/10.

  14. Captain Marvel Movie Review – Spoiler Free@readingdanvers2671d

    captain marvel.jpg

This was a great movie. I think Marvel likes to tease us with false marketing, because this movie is not what it was marketed as. This is a fun, lighted hearted and emotional Marvel movie, by the Marvel formula. It is a basic origin movie. There are no surprises there, except for the way it is presented.

My positive impression was reinforced by the screening that I was in. It was the first screening of the movie that wasn't 3D (it just gives me really bad headaches) and filled with mostly hardcore Marvel fans. I had the same experience I that I got when I saw Avengers: Infinity War. People clapped, and cheered and laughed and owwed and ahhhed and it was such a great experience. Marvel is a journey that we take with our beloved characters and in a sense, with each other.

The movie takes place in the 90s and is full of 90s nostalgia. 90s kids will understand how frustrating technology was at the time. The clothes, the soundtrack and the vibes the movie gives are all full of 90 nostalgia.

The movie focuses on Carol Danvers as a member of the Kree Starforce, who must rediscover her past as she doesn't remember it. I must say there were more twists and turns in this story than I expected. There is a reason why we didn't know who all of the characters are. Wow. Just wow. I have a feeling that this movie won't do as well outside of the US as in the US, as it's more of a plot movie than an action movie.

I can't say that Brie Larson's performance was amazing. But it was endearing, likable, even if not relatable. She felt unique and regular at the same time. She's not a Mary Sue, Mary Sue's don't do that much damage and that many mistakes. She's just a person caught in a middle of a war and trying to do the best she can. Also she has her Binary powers which is so freaking cool and looks so cool on the big screen.

Samuel L Jackson returns as Nick Fury. He has more screen time in this movie than in any other previous Marvel movie. He is almost a co-lead in the movie. I think this is my favorite performance of Jackson in the MCU, maybe because we get more of him, and maybe it's because of his previous personality.

Ben Mendelsohn is a professional villain. But he was excellent as Talos, the lead Skrull of the movie. The Skrulls were very well utilized in this movie.

Lashana Lynch shines as Maria Rambeau. Her performance gave me the chills. She really sold her friendship with Carol Danvers and her own abilities as a pilot.

I can't say who Annette Bening is playing, but this is not the case of a famous actor taking in a silly role for a paycheck (like Glenn Close). She has a true role in the movie and she is brilliant in it, while also being playful. The cat steals the show. Really. He is not just adorable, but he is adorable.

Jude Law didn't impress me, even though his role was impressive. He just felt flat to me.

The rest of the cast barley have anything to do in the movie. Sorry, if you're a Gemma Chan fan you can skip this movie.

You have to stay for the mid-credit scene, but not the post one. If you are in a real hurry, skip the last one.

Also, one of Marvel's biggest accomplishments is that Danvers doesn't end up fighting a person with her exact same powers. After Iron Man, Ant Man and Black Panther I had enough of that sort of villain. Still, the movie has some Marvel flaws like problems with consistency and logic, but I had no problem with my suspension of disbelief.

Again, Marvel did a great job with being loyal to the source material and making it work with a few changes within the MCU. I can see how easily Captain Marvel will fit in with the rest of the Avengers. Marvel delivered another great movie that makes origin movies feel fresh. Sure, this is not groundbreaking story telling, but it delivers what it promised.

Maybe I'll do a spoiler review as there is so much to discuss about the movie.

    I give this movie a 8.5/10

  16. Captain Marvel - the Love and the Hate@readingdanvers2687d

    Captain Marvel inter poster.jpg

Obviously, as you can imagine from my user name I am a big fan or at least really excited about the Captain Marvel movie. I was skeptical at first, but I came around. Unfortunately, Carol Danvers has a really big disliking and hate group. People who think that the character and the actress are too SJW or too modern feminist and they are bombing Rotten Tomatoes with negative reviews before the press embargo lifts on Thursday. Despite the wave of hate it still has a 85% are interested in the movie and it is said to open at around 100 million dollars which is much better than some MCU movies.

I am not really surprised, but I am disappointed. These days, people have a hard time separating reality from fiction and representation from the actual thing, and the character from the actor and I don't like it. Even if you don't like Brie Larson's opinions you should not trash the movie before it is even out. It's not like been too political is a crime. I still think that the movie will be at least an entertaining one, because at the end of the day, it's a Marvel movie. It will have theMarvel formula and magic.

This rant will probably not change your mind, but I got it off my chest.

I already got my premiere tickets and will probably see it a few times at the cinema, like I do with all Marvel movies.

So here are three cool new videos that came out this week to help promote the movie.

  17. Insomniac Trailer Reactions: Captain Marvel@rvgenaille2835d

I keep saying that I am fatigued with superhero movies (and I am) but whenever something comes out that looks intriguing, I am generally onboard. Not the least of which, it is time we have a hero story that is a woman, Wonder Woman notwithstanding.

This Captain Marvel trailer gives very little away. I have no idea what is going on and I loved that feeling. I don't know Captain Marvel and this trailer gives nothing away. It is intriguing and I want to see more. That's all there is to it. I didn't bother to see Ant-man and the Wasp, I'll probably rent it, and I didn't rush out to rent the Avengers:Infinity War when it debuted on video and VOD. I'll try to see this one though.
