Hey Jessfixers
So I did a bit of Netflix and chill this weekend and checked out one of their latest releases. I was basically sold on the cast I mean Ben Kingsley and Chris Evans lending their acting chops and other memorable faces you've got me to click through and check it out, lol damn that star power, it really does work, doesn't it?
Have you fallen for any star power movies in the past? Which ones were they? Leave a comment below I'm keen to laugh about it.
This new Netflix movie The Red Sea Diving Resort has a pretty exciting plot, being a real-life sourced story, a docudrama if you will.

What is The Red Sea Diving Resort about?
The movie is Inspired by remarkable true-life rescue missions; this is the incredible story of a group of Mossad agents and brave Ethiopians who in the early 80s used a deserted holiday retreat in Sudan as a front to smuggle thousands of refugees to Israel, the tactical extraction was called Operation Brothers. A
The agents run a hotel International and use this deserted retreat in Sudan as a front to smuggle approximately 8,000 people to Israel in the early 1980s.
What I thought of The Red Sea Diving Resort
The movie is all story and no substance, while the concept is interesting and we've seen this play out brilliantly before with the likes of Argo, this movie had all the ingredients to be a real blockbuster.
Yet what we got is mildly entertaining and watchable, but I expected more comic relief from their challenge of not blowing their cover (none of the guest's suspected anything fishy going on?), they didn't seem like the most competent spies ever covered in a movie.
The dialogues are so overacted sometimes and the Sudanese warlord incredibly incompetent it was so easy to get out of so many situations which really reduces the fear and suspense and to an extent the believably of the movie.
I would have preffered an actual explanation which was probably having a lot to do with the local authorities ignoring issues (while taking bribes).
We are introduced to a number of characters in the movie but none of their stories or motivations or even how they know certain things like foreign languages are explained, we're just watching this movie unfold with no backstory.
I found that its a movie caught in between trying to paint the bigger picture but in doing so dilutes the story completely.
My rating for The Red Sea Diving Resort
The movie is an entertaining watch if you're looking for a break from the usually manufactured stories we're getting these days but lacks a real sense of depth. Not a single character gets a real meaty backstory and remains surface and cliché.
Apart from Omar not a single Ethiopian ever gets a story or even to speak of, like why should we care about these people trekking across the country if you don't tell us anything about them? They're used more as a plot device than the actual reason for the movie.
While apart from Dr Sammy nobody is to stand in Captain America's way - his crew is practically non-existent storywise.
Also, Poor Haley Bennett's purpose is solely to look good in neoprene, I guess they needed a woman for diversities sake and her scenes are so forced at time. And don't get me started on Sir Ben Kingsley... What a waste of talent.
With the movies currently available, I would say it's the best of the bunch but its by no means a great movie.
I'd give this movie 6 refugees out of 10
Have your say
