  1. Movie Review #29 - The Red Sea Diving Resort@josalarcon22444d

Chris Evans is going to have a hard time taking off the Capitan America badge and getting to really stand out in other roles, especially because if we're honest before coming to UCM the actor wasn't one of the best in the business. But it's never too late to keep trying, I just hope his next attempts are better than what I saw in The Red Sea Diving Resort, a movie that totally wastes a real story from which they could have gotten something else.

The Red Sea Diving Resort is a film focused on a special operation carried out by a group of agents who want to help free segregated Jews in Sudan, a real drama that doesn't fully establish an intensity that connects us with emotional facts.

    # # Reviewing the plot. # Generally when the creative minds of Hollywood take real stories and transform them into cinematographic productions they usually build great scripts from extremely interesting stories, but I emphasize that "usually" because this time they have not managed to do it, and is that The Red Sea Diving Resort is a film that I personally expected more for the real facts on which it is based, facts that failed to develop into a strong script where the whole film could detach.

In this film we find a cinematographic recreation of the operations carried out by a group of undercover agents that using a tourist resort as a cover managed to take out of Sudan a great amount of Jews who were in deplorable conditions and who also had to constantly deal with all kinds of criticism and abuse. In theory, history had everything to triumph, but it does not, those who took the creative command in this film went down a simple path where the story does not reach a plot climax that makes it stand out. Basically the film lacks intensity and that key suspense in a film that deals with rescues and secret missions, after all, if you establish an atmosphere that is not consistent with what you're telling you can hardly succeed.

    # The script is totally flat and unemotional, instead is full of technical cliches and arguments that take intensity away from a very serious story, you can not pretend to establish a plot without emotion when your script is full of racial and religious conflicts that constantly clash with the political situation of a country, and an entire community. In the film they show us the Jewish people as fragile people without emotion, that is to say they are an oppressed people that constantly is repressed by all angles and they show it to us but they fail to transmit the claim for freedom, it seems that those that want to be liberated are lacking of courage and emotions, nothing moves them, nothing makes them go forward, they dedicate themselves to go like sheep behind the agents. Basically we have a rescue story where the victims are lacking both intensity and the desire to be free, something that makes the plot meaningless. Another evident problem in the film is the lack of creativity in developing the main argument, I understand that if you base things on real facts you can't change the points of reference of a story so much, but for God's sake they could have included and strengthened some points to make the story stand out. #

    # # Exploring the Characters & The Settings. # One thing that is evident in this film is the great cast that the creators made, maybe the plot is weak and that's why they wanted to complement it with acclaimed actors, but they don't achieve it at all. You can have a list of oscar winners but if you give them a weak script they cannot do much to save the story, and it is noticeable. There are no memorable moments, most of the outstanding scenes are made to do it in specific situations from a climax created to give life to that particular scene, what I mean is that the highlights of the performances have been developed separately without being fully integrated into the plot. Yes, we have good moments where we see some interesting dialogues and interactions but mostly the bad and boring moments are the ones that predominate. #

    # Chris Evans doesn't do a bad job, but he doesn't manage to create a character that makes us forget that he is the Captain America, they even dared to use dialogues similar to the ones he use at the UCM, so it's almost impossible not to think that we're seeing the Captain America on a rescue mission, only this time he doesn't have his shield or the avengers to support him. The actor fails to construct a different character, a character that manages to get totally into the drama of a group of people living in extreme conditions. The most outstanding of the actors is undoubtedly Michael Kenneth Williams, because he is the only one who feels real, he is the only one who seems to really belong to the development of the story, the actor manages to convey fear, and an imposing countenance that maintains throughout the film.

Perhaps the most outstanding point of the whole film is the artistic part, where you can see the effort that the creators made to perfectly mimic an era, visually the film is a success for its settings and photography so well suited. The film marvelously manages to move us to a time where many things were happening at the same time, a time of change but also of constant social regression that we see reflected in the people of Sudan.

    Conclusion.

Without a doubt a disappointing film because of the great expectations that create before its release, I expected something done with more detail and affection to recreate a very complex story full of layers of argument that seems to have been taken to the cinema with simplicity and without emotion. It's not a boring film (fortunately) because the story isn't, but if it's a tedious film to see because of the amount of clichés it has through the development of the story, the plot constantly decays and fails a lot to get away from other similar stories, it follows a simple predictable plot path where the lack of intensity is the most obvious factor.

  2. The Red Sea Diving Resort Review@jeremiahcustis2445d

    “Let me get this straight...”

“You want Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, to purchase an abandoned hotel from the Sudanese government... So your idea just to reiterate: Is to send a group of Jews to a Muslim country to a place where they might be eaten by Bedoins. To run a fake hotel In order to rescue a group of black Jews who might or might not survive a 1000 km walk across the desert to be smuggled out to sea by Israeli Navy SEALs to an Israeli ship?” asks the Defense Minister.

24040F94-C4DC-4B7B-9FEB-69FCAA0B4E36.jpeg I’m not a Netflix subscriber or movie goer. (except for Star Wars) I always download movies for free from The Pirate Bay and drop them on my 64 GB USB. If you have kids this works better because you never have streaming issues and you can create a folder of Disney movies that will autoplay on the TV, repeat, never show ads, and always kid friendly because you’re the one who put the movies in the folder. When the power or internet is out, you can still have something to watch. Anyways I loaded up a few flicks, was maybe on the third one and heard the above dialogue from the Defense Minister. It sounded so cool that it woke me up and it is a great summary of this film which is based on a true story.

    The Critics

C67CCC1B-52C3-4084-9A7F-E1748130B2DF.jpeg Rotten Tomatoes scored this at 30% while we the general audience scored it at over 80%. This has been happening a lot lately. Do they know we all hate them now and are using reverse psychology to get us to watch?

Roger Ebert gave it one out of four. I never liked him. I thought that he was a douche bag before I even knew what the word douche bag meant. I hate people who think they are mentally superior to the average person and talk down to us like they’re on a whole other level of supreme intelligence or something.

I would have to say I agree with the Rotten Tomato’s audience review and give it a score of 80%. It was interesting, moved along well, and had great acting, but it’s a movie I’d only watch once and isn’t exactly on my recommendation list.

    Captain America

Chris Evans is Ari Levinson and the main character of this film. I’m sorry, but I can’t get the typecast of Captain America out of my mind, so I’ll just refer to him as such. His character isn’t much different than Steve Rogers either. I’m sure you’ll be thinking that Captain America lost his super-soldier serum, but not his classic American charm the whole film too.

    Honest Feminism

I have a daughter and have helped empower thousands of my female students, but shows like Supergirl, Batwoman, or the new Spiderman are reprehensible to me. Having strong women is healthy, but not when it’s unintelligently over done and at the expensive of the male characters. The Red Sea Diving resort has a great female character that is badass in a realistic way without belittling the dudes around her.

    Conclusion

This was a good film, a true story, and worth watching. If you see it come up on Netflix or The Pirate Bay, you should watch it. I loved the real photos of the actual people at the end of the film. Don’t listen to the critics. They’re all crazy and high on their own egos.

  4. Movie Review: The Red Sea Diving Resort@chekohler2522d

    Hey Jessfixers

So I did a bit of Netflix and chill this weekend and checked out one of their latest releases. I was basically sold on the cast I mean Ben Kingsley and Chris Evans lending their acting chops and other memorable faces you've got me to click through and check it out, lol damn that star power, it really does work, doesn't it?

Have you fallen for any star power movies in the past? Which ones were they? Leave a comment below I'm keen to laugh about it.

This new Netflix movie The Red Sea Diving Resort has a pretty exciting plot, being a real-life sourced story, a docudrama if you will.

    The-Red-Sea-Diving-Resort.jpg

What is The Red Sea Diving Resort about?

The movie is Inspired by remarkable true-life rescue missions; this is the incredible story of a group of Mossad agents and brave Ethiopians who in the early 80s used a deserted holiday retreat in Sudan as a front to smuggle thousands of refugees to Israel, the tactical extraction was called Operation Brothers. A

The agents run a hotel International and use this deserted retreat in Sudan as a front to smuggle approximately 8,000 people to Israel in the early 1980s.

What I thought of The Red Sea Diving Resort

The movie is all story and no substance, while the concept is interesting and we've seen this play out brilliantly before with the likes of Argo, this movie had all the ingredients to be a real blockbuster.

Yet what we got is mildly entertaining and watchable, but I expected more comic relief from their challenge of not blowing their cover (none of the guest's suspected anything fishy going on?), they didn't seem like the most competent spies ever covered in a movie.

The dialogues are so overacted sometimes and the Sudanese warlord incredibly incompetent it was so easy to get out of so many situations which really reduces the fear and suspense and to an extent the believably of the movie.

I would have preffered an actual explanation which was probably having a lot to do with the local authorities ignoring issues (while taking bribes).

We are introduced to a number of characters in the movie but none of their stories or motivations or even how they know certain things like foreign languages are explained, we're just watching this movie unfold with no backstory.

I found that its a movie caught in between trying to paint the bigger picture but in doing so dilutes the story completely.

My rating for The Red Sea Diving Resort

The movie is an entertaining watch if you're looking for a break from the usually manufactured stories we're getting these days but lacks a real sense of depth. Not a single character gets a real meaty backstory and remains surface and cliché.

Apart from Omar not a single Ethiopian ever gets a story or even to speak of, like why should we care about these people trekking across the country if you don't tell us anything about them? They're used more as a plot device than the actual reason for the movie.

While apart from Dr Sammy nobody is to stand in Captain America's way - his crew is practically non-existent storywise.

Also, Poor Haley Bennett's purpose is solely to look good in neoprene, I guess they needed a woman for diversities sake and her scenes are so forced at time. And don't get me started on Sir Ben Kingsley... What a waste of talent.

With the movies currently available, I would say it's the best of the bunch but its by no means a great movie.

I'd give this movie 6 refugees out of 10
