Synopsis
Set in the quiet country of South Korea, we meet a captain on the verge of retirement with a beautiful pregnant wife, this man is called Jo In-chang, who lives his life peacefully. Then on the very day, he is about to be discharged, a catastrophe occurs, after many years of inactivity, the volcano on Baekdu Mountain suddenly explodes and becomes active, destroying buildings, streets, and cities, with enough power to destroy all of Korea, including both the south and the north in one fell swoop. This was foreseen by a professor years ago, himself in his thesis formed a plan to prevent the disaster by imploding a bomb at a certain coordinate near the volcano, the only drawback is that an inactive nuclear bomb is required to activate the machine, therefore, Captain Jo In-chang is assigned to fulfill such a mission, leading his team and venturing into dangerous North Korea to accomplish his goal. With time against them and a not-so-specialized combat team, Will this special team be able to save all of Korea?
Opinion
Initially, I was very attracted by the events that had happened practically from the beginning of the film, where the narrative is absolutely incredible and the evolution of the plot so well is, so, if I'm honest the theme of the film is brutal highly recommended, highlighting the fact that I love natural disaster movies, I loved it in many ways, the scenarios are a ten out of ten among thousands, totally neat with impressive special effects, to see the decline of society, the spirit of survival, a state of total anarchy, to observe so many emotions coming and going in a torrent of passion was totally great, the confrontations although they are few, each one is better than the last, plus they inject you with suspense that traps you inside the story that surrounds each character.
There are many remarkable aspects of this incredible delivery, as always I will denote what in my opinion is totally necessary and essential to highlight:
Characters: As always later I will open the section of the characters, but I consider that it is worth mentioning that the development of the vast majority of those involved in the plot was really well developed, not to say that they are fully explained and it is something that is not normal to see, so in my opinion it is something very remarkable because although it is a somewhat long film, it is not too long and they managed to make everything quite enjoyable in terms of the protagonists and antagonists in the film.
Disasters: Totally incredible, the effects that they put to this film are impressive and quite fluid, also the aspects of design and structure each of these are really very well with the events of the explosions and/or eruptions. Sincerely I love this kind of theme, where nature shows its implacable force.
Scenarios
The most incredible and appreciable aspect that I could see in the film, where these are developed as we move forward in the film, initially we are presented with a neat city with beautiful Korean buildings, at the time of presenting the explosions of magma and lava, the earth splits, buildings are destroyed and society, as it is known, begins to fall on the heads of its own citizens, these being forced to survive in this dangerous environment.
In addition to this, the scenarios are also very variable, initially, in the mission of our special squad, they are in a government headquarters and then appear in a desolate point of the world with orders and clear objectives, in order to cross borders, forests, lonely villages and many other places that leads to a path to salvation.
Emotions
As the plot unfolds, mostly from the point of view of our protagonists, the emotions they suffer are an avalanche for them, the love, devotion, and determination to fulfill their orders, lead them to overcome any obstacle in order to arrive safely at their destination. Carrying on their backs the future of all Korea, these soldiers feel in their own flesh how time plays against them, getting closer and closer to the most dangerous point, being nothing more and nothing less than the volcano itself, and at a certain point, they act even out of desperation to accept that their death is imminent if they do not fulfill the mission.
Love: One of the strongest emotions that can be seen in this film, thanks to all the feelings involved in their hearts, our characters do incredible things thanks to the thought of being able to save their families, the people they love most in the world, something that honestly made my skin crawl and made me shed tears to see that, although at first you are or pretend to be bad to others, really inside each one, there is an immense love for those we love most, being able to give our lives for them.
Despair: Being in a situation of extreme risk, any person in the world would be tempted to fall into the despair of surrendering to the abyss of death, or even suicide, committing treason, there are many things, imagine a situation of die or die in which the result will be the same whether you fulfill your mission or not. Really in a disaster situation, we do not know how we could react, having our loved ones so far away, with the only thought that you will never see them again.
Confrontations
Although this film focuses on the catastrophe that is causing the volcano throughout Korea, it still gives us some very good fight scenes in which our poor Korean soldiers are always outnumbered by the enemies, where they are forced to improvise as much as possible to survive. However, for soldiers, they don't have many hand-to-hand combat qualities, but, I can understand that they had not been exposed to a situation of such magnitude, even so, that doesn't take away that they are very good, being several of these very remarkable.
Characters
We come to the most important point for me and one of the most emotional specifically in this film. As I mentioned before the vast majority of characters had an incredible development and let me tell you that the actors were fantastic, they played wonderful roles and gave each character a unique and special touch making them totally memorable, the truth since I saw the film I always knew who I wanted to write about, not to say that "Lee Joon-Pyeong" was my favorite character by far.
Jo In-chang: A character that for me is the best in terms of emotional and plot development, a calm and peaceful person who was never involved in trouble beyond what his job warranted, being recruited to fulfill such a dangerous mission, he is between a rock and a hard place to protect his country, his people and most importantly his wife and future son, without having great combat skills, with a fairly common wit. His strong point is the confidence he shows to the people around him, it is because of that friendly aspect that people follow him no matter what. Will this man be able to protect the future of his country and his family?
Lee Joon-Pyeong: Here is my favorite character, he is a double spy who is released from prison by Jo In-chang's team to help them find the missing component for the bomb. A character with a rather twisted personality and wit, with a macabre mind and a way of speaking worthy of a spy, verbally manipulates a large number of people to achieve his own ends. This man has a daughter, which he longs to protect with all his heart no matter who or what he has to sacrifice, besides this if he has a great ability to combat and handle weapons, in short, it is a total danger to the team. What is Lee Joon-Pyeong up to?
Choi Ji-Young: Captain Jo In-chang's young pregnant wife, a woman who has no great risk thanks to the work assigned to her husband, this woman shows an enormous love for her husband, the love of her life. After the events of the volcano, "Cho Ji-Young" is about to be saved by the hand of "United States" thanks to a special permit for citizens, within all the events she suffers, she resigns herself to leave the country without her husband, this woman goes through a torrent of continuous emotions, the aspect that I really loved, besides the actress fulfilled her role impeccably.

Sinopsis
Situados en el tranquilo país de Corea del Sur, nos encontramos con un capitán a punto de su retiro con una bella esposa embarazada, este hombre se llama Jo In-chang, el cual vive su vida pacíficamente. Es cuando en el mismo día en que este se ira de baja, acontece una catástrofe, después de muchos años de inactividad, el Volcán en la montaña Baekdu hace una repentina explosión y se pone en actividad destruyendo edificios, calles y ciudades, con suficiente poder para destruir toda Corea, incluyendo tanto el sur como el norte de un solo golpe. Esto fue previsto por un profesor años atrás, este mismo en su tesis formaba un plan para prevenir el desastre implosionando una bomba en cierta coordenada cerca del volcán, el único inconveniente es que se requiere una bomba nuclear inactiva para activar la máquina, por ende, asignan al capitán Jo In-chang para cumplir tal misión, dirigiendo a su equipo y aventurándose en la peligrosa Corea del norte para cumplir su objetivo. Con el tiempo en su contra y un equipo no tan especializado en combate ¿Podrá este equipo especial salvar toda Corea?
Opinión
Inicialmente me sentí muy atraída por los acontecimientos que habían pasado practicamente desde el inicio del film, donde la narrativa es absolutamente increíble y la evolución de la trama tan bien lo es, así que, si les soy sincera la temática de la película es brutal muy recomendada, resaltando el hecho de que me encanta las películas de desastres naturales, me encanto en muchos sentidos, los escenarios son un diez de diez entre miles, totalmente pulcros con efectos especiales impresionantes, ver el declive de la sociedad, el espíritu de supervivencia, un estado de anarquía total, observar tantas emociones yendo y viniendo en un torrente de pasión fue totalmente genial, los enfrentamientos si bien son pocos, cada uno es mejor que el anterior, ademas que te inyectan un suspenso que te atrapa dentro de la historia que envuelve a cada personaje.
Hay muchos aspectos destacables de esta increíble entrega, como siempre denotare lo que a mi parecer es totalmente necesario e imprescindible de destacar:
Personajes: Como siempre más adelante abriré la sección de los personajes, pero considero que vale mucho la pena mencionarles que, el desarrollo de la gran mayoría de los implicados en la trama fueron realmente bien desarrollados, por no decir que están totalmente explicados y es algo que no es normal de ver, por lo que en mi opinión es algo muy destacable, ya que si bien es una película un tanto larga, tampoco lo es en exceso y lograron hacer todo bastante ameno en cuanto a los protagonistas y antagonistas en el film.
Desastres: Totalmente increíbles, los efectos que le pusieron a esta película son impresionantes y bastante fluidos, ademas los aspectos de diseño y estructura cada uno de estos queda realmente muy bien con los acontecimientos de las explosiones y/o erupciones. Sinceramente me encantan este tipo de temáticas, donde la naturaleza muestra su implacable fuerza.
Escenarios
El aspecto más increíble y apreciable que pude ver en la película, donde estas se van desarrollando acorde vamos avanzando en el largometraje, inicialmente nos presentan una ciudad pulcra con unas hermosas edificaciones coreanas, al momento de ir presentando las explosiones de magma y lava, la tierra se parte, edificios se destruyen y la sociedad como se conoce empieza a caer sobre las cabezas de sus propios ciudadanos, siendo estos obligados a sobrevivir en este peligroso entorno.
Además de esto, los escenarios también son muy variables, inicialmente en la misión de nuestro escuadrón especial, estos se encuentran en una sede gubernamental, para luego aparecer en un punto desolado del mundo con órdenes y su objetivo claro, con el fin de atravesar fronteras, bosques, pueblos solitarios y muchos otros lugares que conlleva a un camino a la salvación.
Emociones
Mientras se va desarrollando la trama, más que nada en el punto de vista de nuestros protagonistas, las emociones que estos sufren son una avalancha para ellos, el amor, devoción y determinación por cumplir sus órdenes, los llevan a superar cualquier obstáculo con tal de llegar a salvo a su punto de llegada. Llevando en su espalda el futuro de toda Corea, estos soldados sienten en carne propia como el tiempo juega en su contra, acercándose cada vez más al punto más peligroso, siendo nada más y nada menos que el mismísimo volcán, ya llegados a cierto punto estos actúan incluso por desesperación al aceptar que su muerte es inminente si no cumplen la misión.
- Amor: Una de las emociones más fuertes que se pueden apreciar en este largometraje, gracias a todos los sentimientos implicados en sus corazones, nuestros personajes hacen cosas increíbles gracias al pensamiento de poder salvar a sus familias, a las personas que mas aman en el mundo, algo que sinceramente me erizo la piel y me hizo derramar lágrimas al ver que, aunque en un principio seas o pretendas ser malo con los demas, realmente dentro de cada uno, hay un inmenso amor por aquellos a quienes mas queremos, siendo capaces de dar nuestra vida por ellos.
- Desesperación: Estando en una situación de riesgo extremo, cualquier persona en el mundo se vería tentada a caer en la desesperación de entregarse al abismo de la muerte, he incluso el suicidio, cometer traición, son muchas cosas, imaginen una situación de morir o morir en la cual el resultado será el mismo cumplas tu misión o no. Realmente en una situación de desastre, no sabemos cómo podríamos reaccionar, teniendo a nuestros seres amados tan lejos, con el unico pensamiento de que no los volverás a ver jamás.
Enfrentamientos
Si bien esta película se centra en la catástrofe que está ocasionando el volcán en todo corea, siguen dándonos unas muy buenas escenas de peleas en las cuales nuestros pobres soldados coreanos siempre se ven superados por los enemigos, donde tienen que verse obligados a improvisar lo más posible para poder sobrevivir. Sin embargo, para ser soldados, no tienen muchas cualidades de combate cuerpo a cuerpo, pero, puedo entender que no habían estado expuestos a una situación de tal magnitud, aun así, eso no quita que son muy buenas, siendo varias de estas muy destacables.
Personajes
Llegamos al punto más importante para mí y a su vez una de las más emocionales específicamente en este film. Como mencioné anteriormente la gran mayoría de personajes tuvieron un desarrollo increíble y déjenme decirles que los actores fueron fantásticos, hicieron papeles maravillosos y le dieron a cada personaje un toque único y especial haciéndolos totalmente memorables, la verdad desde que vi la película siempre supe sobre quienes quería escribir, por no decir que “Lee Joon-pyeong” fue mi personaje favorito por mucho.
Jo In-chang: Un personaje que para mí es el mejor en cuanto a desarrollo emocional y argumental, una persona tranquila y pacifica que nunca se vio implicada en problemas más allá de los que su trabajo ameritaba, al ser reclutado para cumplir con tal peligrosa misión, este se ve entre la espada y la pared para proteger a su país, su gente y lo más importante su mujer y futuro hijo, sin tener grandes habilidades de combate, con un ingenio bastante común. Su punto fuerte es la confianza que le muestra a las personas que están a su alrededor, es por ese aspecto tan amigable que las personas lo siguen sin importar que. ¿Podrá este hombre proteger el futuro de su país y el de su familia?
Lee Joon-pyeong: Aquí está mi personaje favorito, este es un doble espía el cual es liberado de una prisión por parte del equipo de Jo In-chang para que los ayude a buscar el componente faltante para la bomba. Un personaje con una personalidad e ingenio bastante retorcidos, con una mente macabra y una forma de hablar digna de un espía, manipulando verbalmente a una gran cantidad de personas para lograr sus propios fines. Este hombre tiene una hija, la cual añora proteger con todo su corazón sin importarle a quien o que tenga que sacrificar, además de esto este si posee una gran habilidad para el combate y el manejo de armas, en pocas palabras es un peligro total para el equipo. ¿Que tramara Lee Joon-pyeong?
Choi Ji-Young: La joven esposa embarazada del capitán Jo In-chang, una mujer que si bien no tuvo grandes riesgos gracias al trabajo que le asignaron a su esposo, esta mujer demuestra un amor enorme por su esposo, el amor de su vida. Luego de los acontecimientos del volcán, “Cho Ji-Young” esta por ser salvada de la mano de “Estados Unidos” gracias a un permiso especial para ciudadanos, dentro de todos los acontecimientos que sufre, se resigna a irse del país sin su esposo, esta mujer pasa por un torrente de emociones continuas, aspecto que realmente me encanto, ademas que la actriz cumplió su papel de forma impecable.
