The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a psychological semi-horror film dwelling on responsibility, integrity, and vengeance using many forms of symbolism and idiosyncratic dialog. The film descends into a dark pit where sacrifice is demanded for atonement. The film examines the authentic and superficial levels of honor and fidelity in society and the ways we confront or deny them. In this life we have to pay many prices, fortunately for most of us it is not in blood. Vengeance is an act betrayed in all too petty ways within the modernity of violence, where emotions are manipulated for the justification of strikes, bombings, and fledgling wars.
