Another Disney Warrior Princess Otra princesa guerrera de Disney
I have no doubt that there are many Disney fans in this community. From the classics Dumbo and Bambi to Frozen and Moana there are several generations that have grown hand in hand with one of the largest animated film studios in history and the number one brand in the world in this field if other factors are taken into consideration like, cultural influence, its parks, global recognition, etc., which is why I know that many of you have seen all or almost all of the Disney movies.
No tengo dudas de que en esta comunidad son muchos los fanáticos de Disney. Desde los clásicos Dumbo y Bambi hasta Frozen y Moana son varias las generaciones que han crecido de la mano de uno de los mayores estudios de películas animadas de la historia y de la primera marca en el mundo en este terreno si se toman en cuenta otros factores como la influencia cultural, sus parques, el reconocimiento global, etc., por eso sé que muchos de ustedes han visto todas o casi todas las películas de Disney.
As you know, I like to watch films of different styles and although I have a particular taste, I also like to approach commercial cinema and although I had not seen the most recent films of the well-known Mickey Mouse brand (I have not seen Charm yet) for a long time I wanted to see this movie. I didn't know what it was about, but the aesthetics in the promotional poster and having a young warrior as the protagonist made it catch my attention and although I let a lot of time go by to visit this story, it's the first film I see in this 2023. Raya and the Last Dragon is an animated film brimming with fantasy, adventure and legend. It begins with the story of Kumandra, a territory inhabited by humans and dragons who lived alongside them until five hundred years ago when some beings of shadow and darkness, the Druun, threatened the territory, petrifying its inhabitants until the dragons sacrificed themselves to save their human peers by creating the Dragon Gem, which, although it saved them, also generated division between the five regions that make up Kumandra. Because the map of Kumandra is in the shape of a Dragon, following the enmity in those territories, each of them was named after a Dragon's body part: Fang, Heart, Spine, Talon, and Tail and the Gem is guarded in Heart, but after an incident in which Namaari of Fang betrays Raya of Heart, the stone fragments and representatives of each region take a piece shattering Raya's father's dream (to reunite Kumandra) and freeing again to the Druun who begin to bring death and desolation to all that was once the prosperous land of Kumandra and which is littered with petrified bodies again (including Raya's father).
Como saben, me gusta ver películas de diferentes estilos y aunque tengo un gusto particular, también me gusta acercarme al cine comercial y si bien no había visto las películas más recientes de la reconocida marca del ratón Mickey (aún no he visto Encanto) hacía tiempo que quería ver esta película. No sabía de qué se trataba, pero la estética en el poster promocinal y el tener como protagonista a una joven guerrera hicieron que me llamara la atención y aunque dejé pasar mucho tiempo para visitar esta historia, es la primera película que veo en este 2023. Raya and the Last Dragon es un film animado que desborda fantasía, aventura y leyenda. Inicia con la historia de Kumandra, un territorio habitado por humanos y dragones que vivieron junto a ellos hasta hace quinientos años cuando unos seres de sombra y oscuridad, los Druun, amenazaron el territorio, petrificando a sus habitantes hasta que los dragones se sacrificaron para salvar a sus pares humanos creando la Gema del Dragón, que si bien los salvó generó también división entre las cinco regiones que conforman Kumandra. Debido a que el mapa de Kumandra tiene la forma de un Dragón, tras la enemistad en esos territorios, cada uno de ellos fue nombrado como una parte del cuerpo de un Dragón: Fang, Heart, Spine, Talon, and Tail y la Gema es custodiada en Heart, pero tras un incidente en el que Namaari, de Fang, traiciona a Raya, de Heart, la piedra se fragmenta y representantes de cada región toman un trozo haciendo añicos el sueño del padre de Raya (reunificar Kumandra) y liberando nuevamente a los Druun que comienzan a llevar muerte y desolación a todo lo que alguna vez fue la próspera tierra de Kumandra y que se llena de cuerpos petrificados nuevamente (incluido el del padre de Raya).
This is more or less how the story begins. I really liked that first part in which Raya tells us the story of Kumandra, the origin of the legend of the last dragon and how we witnessed Namaari's betrayal. Years later, after having traveled all the rivers of the country in search of Sisu (the last dragon that is believed to still be alive), Raya rescues the last ray of hope to fulfill her father's dream and, of course, to bring him back to life.
Más o menos así comienza la historia. Me gustó mucho toda esa primera parte en la cual Raya nos cuenta la historia de Kumandra, el origen de la leyenda del último dragón y cómo asistimos a la traición de Namaari. Años más tarde, después de haber recorrido todos los ríos del país en busca de Sisu (el último dragón que se cree aún vive) Raya rescata el último rayito de esperanza de cumplir el sueño de su padre y, por supuesto, de regresarlo a la vida.
Probably because it's an animated story, with a setting in a distant eastern land and with that mythical air of legend, it is inevitable to make comparisons or find references between this and other stories from Disney and its competition. The oriental air of the aesthetic evokes of course Mulan and Kubo and the two strings; the distant land and that legend of the origin of the division of a territory reminded me of Brave; and of course, the protagonist, a young girl, a fighter, the daughter of one of the monarchs (that is, a princess) is a feature common to those three stories that also have more obvious similarities (like those three monkeys that accompany the little girl Noi and that together with her they remember the three brothers of Merida in Brave, before and after turning into bears). Namely, that in many ways, Raya and the Last Dragon seems familiar due to what many call its lack of originality. Not to mention the fact that Raya is an orphan (even if only by mother).
Probablemente por tratarse de una historia animada, con una ambientación en una lejana tierra oriental y con ese mítico aire de leyenda, es inevitable hacer comparaciones o encontrar referencias entre esta y otras historias de Disney y su competencia. El aire oriental de la estética evoca por supuesto Mulan y Kubo and the two strings; la tierra lejana y esa leyenda del origen de la división de un pueblo me recordaron a Brave; y por supuesto que la protagonista, una chica joven, combatiente, hija de uno de los monarcas (o sea, una princesa) es un rasgo común a esas tres historias que también tienen similitudes más evidentes (como esos tres monos que acompañan a la pequeña Noi y que junto a ella recuerdan a los tres hermanos de Merida en Brave, antes y después de convertirse en osos). Es decir, que en muchos aspectos, Raya and the Last Dragon parece familiar debido a lo que muchos llaman su falta de originalidad. Ni hablar de el hecho de que Raya sea huérfana (aunque sea sólo de madre).
However, being fair to the film, it's a very good story full of fantasy, adventures and important lessons among which perhaps the most evident are the always known "In unity there is strength" and the theme of trust and forgiveness, complex topics that are introduced in very simple language and that encourage these conversations with the little ones.
Sin embargo, siendo justos con la película, es una muy buena historia repleta de fantasía, aventuras e importantes lecciones dentro de las cuales quizás las más evidentes son el siempre sabido "En la unión está la fuerza" y el tema de la confianza y el perdón, temas complejos que son introducidos en un lenguaje muy sencillo y que propician estas conversaciones con los más chicos.
Namaari betrays Raya triggering a series of events detrimental to everyone. However, at one point in the film, in order to reunify Kumandra, Raya must trust her, forgive any unfinished business, and have faith in Namaari. It's not easy, but that trust in each other is the first step for the union and the triumph of all. Added to these lessons are funny situations, secondary characters with little stories that enrich the plot, an amazing Sisu with a captivating personality, female leads, both the heroine and her counterpart, and the ultimate conclusion that Disney has left behind the helpless princesses waiting for a Prince Charming and is promoting Warrior Princesses who fight for the common good, for the love of their loved ones and for the preservation of Nature. Namaari traciona a Raya desencadenando una serie de eventos perjudiciales para todos. Sin embargo, en un punto de la película, para poder reunificar Kumandra, Raya debe confiar en ella, perdonar cualquier tema que tengan pendiente y tener fe en Namaari. No es fácil, pero esa confianza del uno en el otro es el primer paso para la unión y el triunfo de todos. A estas lecciones se suman situaciones divertidas, personajes secundarios con pequeñas historias que enriquecen la trama, una Sisu increíble con una personalidad cautivadora, protagonistas femeninas, tanto la heroína como su contraparte, y la conclusión definitiva de que Disney ha dejado atrás a las princesas desamparadas a la espera de un Príncipe Azul y está impulsando a Princesas Guerreras que luchan por el bien común, por el amor a los suyos y en pro de la preservación de la Naturaleza.
