Joker (2019) Review/Thoughts

What a wild movie this was!

Perhaps I found myself enjoying this film a little too much? HA!

I mean I thought my life sucked, but the Joker's entire life is just trash. This guy never had a chance man!

Despite those challenges, for about eighty-five percent of the movie you can almost sort of kind of see a hint of humanity in Arthur Fleck (Joker). Just a hint. I can't help but wonder if someone could have somehow shown genuine care for Arthur at the right times, that he could have turned out ok-ish. But even then, it's hard to really say.

I can't help but feel bad for Arthur. His life was just pure neglect and chaos.

This movie perfectly described the layers of Arthur's mental illness and eventual straight up sheer madness.

From the start, it was evident Arthur was a ticking time bomb of mental illness. But even then it does seem like Arthur was semi aware of it and even seemed like he had a level of respect for right and wrong.

Arthur was well on his way to being the Joker, but I believe finding out he was adopted really really sped up the process. Not only did his parents not want him for reasons unknown, but his adopted mother was insanely unfit to be a parent. Arthur's mom had severe mental illness which led to him being disturbingly neglected. From birth Arthur seemed to just have absolutely zero luck.

Prior to Arthur discovering he was adopted, abused and neglected, Arthur had a glimmer of hope that his real biological father was none other than Thomas Wayne. A billionaire and a famous man attempting to run for mayor. Arthur had this idea thanks to his mom, who basically said they were lovers when she worked for Wayne. Something like that LOL.

It's hard to really say how Arthur felt about Thomas possibly being his father. Still, Thomas Wayne possibly being his dad must have been be a decent sign of hope and positivity in his absolutely grim dark life. I mean it was better than nothing.

But when Arthur approached Thomas Wayne, Arthur was met with more, well, shit. Thomas informed Arthur that he wasn't his dad, and that his mom was severely delusional and frankly just crazy. Thomas said his mother made everything up.

These conflicting stories is what led to Arthur going to Arkham Asylum and finding out the truth, Wayne wasn't his dad.

I describe this sequence of events because just WOW. Arthur is pretty much completely mad at this point, but to sort of have your hopes semi up in a dreadful life, to just get told your mom, who isn't really your mom, is nuts and get punched in the face by an extremely fanous man. I mean, wow. Talk about depressing.

This movie is so good. It's always a bit odd to enjoy a movie about a mad man. I feel like finishing a movie should lead to like, a happy ending or maybe just true justice, or something.

This movie simply depicts how an angry psycho is formed and I mean, who honestly would not go psycho after a life like this one?

Joaquin Phoenix acts extremely well. Just such an off, disturbed, just confused angry and depressed individual. He truly felt unpredictable the entire movie.

I finished this movie feeling both unsettled and entertained.

It felt dramatic throughout and even had flashes of real horror.

When Joaquin Phoenix danced down those steps, I was so impressed and just entertained. In his full makeup and just seemed to really become the Joker.

At the end of the movie with Rober Deniro, Arthur's madness really showed and I found myself being pretty disgusted as Arthur described his anger and everything. His immaturity and child like mindset really was on display.

At the same time, I didn't have such an awful life.

When I first watched the Joker in 2008 played by Heath Ledger, I immediately thought that he was such a cool bad guy.

This movie is such a cool addition while having it's own style.

This movie is a comic book movie yes, but it can absolutely stand alone as just a movie about a man destined to be evil.

You can't help but feel bad for him, just a little. I found it interesting that Arthur let the small person live. Perhaps Arthur has the tiniest ability to show mercy.

Once again, this observation or thought is not rocket science, but I wonder if Arthur has ever had a genuine laugh, ever?

I wonder if Arthur's dad really is Thomas Wayne? Thomas is super rich and pwerful. Arthur even eludes to them both looking slightly alike? Hmmm.

Yikes.

What a chilling, one of a kind film. I was entertained throughout.

Bravo! 8.5/10.

It's hard to rate movies LOL.

Gonna watch the Batman next!
