Everyone is an asshole 🖕🗺

Fans of dark humor gather round, I have another great option for you to get your fill of laughter. I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore is a super long name, so we will just call it I Don't Feel At Home. This Netflix Original stars Melanie Lynskey as Ruth, who you may have seen in 2021's widely popular show Yellowjackets as she played the older version of Shauna. I Don't Feel At Home also has a hilarious role with Ruth's neighbor Tony that is played by Eliah Wood, he is most popular for his timeless role of Frodo in the Lord of the Rings movies. Together these two offer up quite a bit.

Right from the start, I began to somewhat resonate with Ruth. She was tired of living in a world where nobody seemed to care about each other. Although she tried her best to be nice, nobody seemed to reflect the same respect back to her. This whole depressing situation is made even more clear by the fact that Ruth has a NO POOPING sign in her front yard, yet has to clean up dog shit pretty much every single day. She is so close to her boiling point but remains calm.

One day she comes home to find that her house has been broken into and ransacked by reckless criminals. The cops don't seem to care or feel the need to help her. This leads her to feel the need to become a vigilante of sorts to recover her antique silverware and laptop. While trying to sift through clues and gather information, she catches her neighbor Tony out on a walk with his dog Kevin. She confronts him about the dog shit and their convo ends abruptly there.

Eventually, Ruth heads over to Tony's to ask him some questions about the robbery. To her surprise, he is overly optimistic about helping out in any way that he can. So much so that Tony is a tad bit frightening. She runs off but is left with no other option for help but Tony eventually. The two team up to track down the thieves.

This whole scenario goes pretty well for these two despite their odd chemistry and the fact that both seem incapable of doing dirty work like this. Eventually, it spirals out of control and becomes a bit more than they bargained for. Ruth remains on track with her goal of doing what is needed to clear her conscious about getting screwed over constantly.

I am starting to like Melanie Lynskey more each time I see her in something. She has been acting for many years, going as far back as Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures in 1994. Somehow her face is still vague to me and I am just now becoming familiarized with her. Elijah Wood is somebody who I can't help but always think of as a Hobbit, but there is more to this actor than that one role.

Overall I thought that I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore was very well worth my time. It wasn't the best movie ever, but it did make me laugh several times and circled around a topic that I believe deserves attention. People in this world suck, but not all people suck always. There is some good in everybody, but you usually have to dig through a hell of a lot of dirty stuff to find that hidden positivity.
