Is Ready Player One worth your money and time to see in a theater? YES this movie is well worth it, drop what you are doing and get a ticket to the next show. I say this as person who purposely went in blind and knew nothing about the book, so I can't speak to the accuracy of the adaptation. With that little disclaimer out of the way, wow, just wow. I never thought we would get a movie with so many references that don't drag down the plot or break immersion. I won't spoil them but let's just say if you have read a book, watched a movie, or listened to music, or played a game in the last 50 years there will be something you recognize.
I can't really go into too much detail without spoiling so I'll just say this. The movie is worth seeing in the theater, hell, for the first time in a long time, I'm going to pay to see it twice. The effects look great, the story is fun and engaging, the actors were all great, and the soundtrack was amazing. This movie deserves support. And I have to say Stephen Spielberg might be back on his game. This is no Crystal Skull or War of the Worlds schlock, this is more like Jurassic Park. I don't say that only because both are novel adaptations but I think both will endure as fun, effects driven action movies you can enjoy again and again. Hats off to Mr. Spielberg for a job well done.
