In this life, we all have dreams, and from a young age, we always give it our all to make them come true—a journey that can be either easy or difficult. That’s why movies are released based on this very idea, to show us that we’re all capable of achieving our goals. Now comes The Rider, a film where every second becomes more and more thrilling, delivering powerful messages as it tells the story of a young rodeo rider who, after suffering a serious injury, must overcome every obstacle to do what he loves most. This makes the film truly valuable, since every decision he makes and his determination to keep living will play a major role.
The main thing is that, since it’s such a demanding sport, not everyone does it; however, for this young man, it’s completely different, as it’s an opportunity to connect with the world, to feel free, and to find his place in it. That’s why, for him, an injury isn’t the problem—it’s giving something up just to please others. This makes the film perfectly accessible to everyone, since in life we have to keep fighting until the very end—and even more so to leave a mark—which leads us to ask: What happens when we give up something we love? And many other questions that go beyond the sport of rodeo itself, because if you’ve always proven yourself to be strong, why stop now?
Each scene is a spectacle in itself, combining the landscapes of South Dakota, natural light, and moments of freedom and solitude—ensuring that every scene conveys something so that each viewer can find their own place within the story. Here, too, the horses are part of the story, demonstrating that they, too, are living beings who deserve all our love and care—and can even help create something truly profound, since the horses represent the world to which she wants to continue belonging, but they also remind him of everything he could lose if he insists on returning to it at any cost—all to show that the process of acceptance doesn’t happen overnight and that, often, the most significant transformations occur in silence.
I really liked the outcome of this film, because ultimately, The Rider is a movie about learning to let go while still loving what we lose—without feeling the need to do what others tell us to do, without having to disappear when we can no longer do what once defined us—and, above all, about always showing courage, dreaming big, and moving forward. That’s why it’s a film that’s perfect for everyone—because sometimes, the hardest part isn’t accepting that we can’t go back, but discovering who we can become from here on out.
