There are movies worth watching over and over again, since each time they show us something different and make us realize that society is full of issues that need attention as soon as possible—and that’s certainly the case with the movie A Son. The story introduces us to a boy who is new at school—a phase we’ve all gone through, and we know the first few days aren’t easy at all. However, what’s interesting here is that behind this shy boy lies something that doesn’t quite fit; with every step he takes and every interaction he has with other children, he leaves clues behind, which makes everything special and keeps us on our toes.
This is a simple film, and using drawings as a means of expression is something unique. The best part is that drawing allows us to capture ideas we might be afraid to communicate—which is why the production takes its time. It also aims to help viewers connect with the story, since, after all, these are children and the story unfolds. However, it has moments that are very predictable, others that are funny, and yet what’s truly important to note is how difficult it is for some adults to listen to children.
Hay historia de películas que valen la pena verla una y otra vez, puesto que cada vez nos muestra algo distinto y nos hace pensar que la sociedad está llena de cosas que necesitan una atención lo más rápido posible y eso ocurre con la película Un hijo. La historia nos presenta a un niño quien llega nuevo a un colegio, etapa que todos hemos pasado y sabemos que los primeros días no son nada fáciles, sin embargo, aquí lo interesante es que detrás de ese niño tímido hay algo que no termina de encajar, la cual detrás de cada paso y niños que hace el niño va dejando pista, que hace que todo sea especial y nos lleva a estar atento.
Esta es una película sencilla y usar los dibujos como manera de expresarse es algo único y lo mejor es que dibujar nos permite plasmar ideas que quizá tenemos miedo de comunicarlas, por eso la producción se toma su tiempo. También busca que uno como espectador se conecte, ya que a la final son niños y la historia avanza, sin embargo, tiene sus momentos que son muy predecibles, otros que dan risa y aun así lo que realmente es importante señalar es la dificultad que tiene algunos los adultos para escuchar a los niños.

Seeing this in the movie serves as a reminder that everyone has their own way of communicating, and we need to pay attention to it—and that’s what family is for, as it’s our primary source of support. That’s why the way the film is crafted—without too many special effects or exaggerations—makes it perfect for everyone, since it reminds us that a smile doesn’t always mean everything is okay.
The characters play a major role here, starting with the psychologist who, despite being a professional, doesn’t have all the answers and simply tries to understand what lies behind the child’s behavior; she’s also someone who observes, doubts, persists, and must confront her own limitations. On the other hand, the boy’s father is a reserved man who is difficult to understand, but like everyone else, he experiences pain and fear—even more so as a father. Then there’s the young boy himself, who knows exactly how to act from the very beginning, and the film makes excellent use of his silences, his gestures, and that smile that gradually begins to seem less innocent than it did at first.
También hacen énfasis en los momentos en que las personas hacen señales con algún movimiento y no todos sabemos cómo interpretarlas, dejando pasarlas y eso verlo en la película es un llamado a que cada quien tiene su formar de comunicarse y hay que prestarle atención, además para eso está la familia que es la principal fuente de apoyo. Por eso cómo está desarrollada la película, sin tantos efectos ni exageraciones es perfectamente para todos, puesto que nos recuerda que una sonrisa no siempre significa que todo esté bien.
Aquí los personajes hacen un gran papel, comenzando desde la psicóloga que a pesar de ser una profesional no tiene las respuestas y que simplemente intenta entender qué hay detrás del comportamiento del niño, además es alguien que observa, duda, insiste y también tiene que enfrentarse a sus propios límites. Por otro lado, el padre del niño, siendo una persona cerrada, difícil de entenderlo, pero como toda persona tiene dolor, miedo y más aún cuando es padre. Como también el pequeño niño quien desde un principio sabe cómo actuar y la película aprovecha muy bien sus silencios, sus gestos y esa sonrisa que poco a poco empieza a parecernos menos inocente de lo que parecía al principio.
I really liked how this movie turned out, as it’s a fun, entertaining film—and, above all, highly recommended for anyone who enjoys family dramas with an element of mystery and a lot of emotional depth. Beyond that, it’s a story that could very well happen in real life, which is why we should always be mindful and understand that behind a smile, a gesture, or a word, there may be much more to it than meets the eye.
Me gusto mucho el resultado de esta película, ya que es una propuesta divertida, entretenida y sobre todo recomendable para quienes disfrutan de los dramas familiares con un componente de misterio y bastante carga emocional. Más allá de eso puede ser una historia que puede llegar a ocurrir en la vida real y por eso siempre hay que estar pendiente y entender qué hay detrás de una sonrisa, un gesto o una palabra puede haber mucho más que saber.
