It has been a good while since the last time I saw a movie about a creepy murderer and Alone seemed like a good flick to enjoy for a while. The story takes place in a remote town with very dense woods all over the place. The reason why she is alone in such a remote place is that she is going through personal grief after a tragedy shook her life very recently.

Her first encounter with the creepy man will be on the road, even before reaching her destination in the small town. They have an altercation while driving and the way he drove his car wasn't normal in the least, but later on, he will end up excusing himself and saying he was sorry about that. However, his entire demeanor didn't seem authentic, there was something off about him and the woman quickly realized this.

After several attempts at obtaining contact with the woman through gentle means, he eventually gets very radical and uses physical force to kidnap her. Since they are in the woods, it is very easy to find remote houses and places to hide whatever you need. Besides, the man knows the area which makes it even more difficult to escape.

The problem for the woman is that there is a double threat, the kidnapper is the first one of course. But the woods can also be quite dangerous if you don't know which way to go. She will have to survive a crazy man hunting her while walking through a forest without the proper equipment to protect herself and her body.

There were several situations where I didn't enjoy so many coincidences. One example is when she is trying to escape the house, in that very same moment the man is just arriving at the house. Another coincidence was after having slept in the forest, she wakes up, and lo and behold, the man's car is circulating almost in front of her. There were a few other extremely unlikely coincidences that damaged the credibility of the story for me.

If you enjoy suspenseful movies this could be a good film to watch. It doesn't bring anything new to the table but is a nice new iteration of the typical story where a person needs to battle against a kidnapper. In my opinion, it was entertaining enough so I recommend it to people who like this type of film.

The best

  • Marc Menchaca does a good job portraying a disturbing killer.
  • The scenery was very nice.

The worst

  • The woman wasn't very strategic in some moments, especially in 1 scene where instead of running away she stays still watching something horrible happen.
  • Extreme coincidences in key moments make the story less believable.

This is something I find disturbing in any movie, especially in the horror/ thriller category. I had never heard of this film though and still might check it out but mostly to enjoy the cliche of typical horror elements in films.

I think I have seen a movie similar to this one but I can't quite remember the name.

These types of plots always come with a lot of suspense which makes them interesting.

I will have to see it.

Thanks for the review, I'll be checking this out. The last movie I watched with a similar premise was 'While She Was Out' with Kim Basinger. I wanted to like it as they were trying to show her abused character grow a backbone but the number of times she got lucky and her attackers offed themselves kept pulling me out of it.
