This movie has an excellent handling of terror and on top of that, an amazing plot twist that you never see coming, it's a 10 out of 10 (far from some little details that don't really add weight to the movie in general) Today we will analyze... "Alone"

Seguimos con los films asiáticos, esta vez con una producción Tailandesa de los mismos creadores de "The Shutter" (una de mis películas preferidas) Esta película tiene un manejo del terror excelso y además de eso, un giro de trama asombroso que nunca te vez venir, es un 10 de 10 (lejos de algunos detallitos que realmente no le hacen peso a la película en general) Hoy analizaremos... The truth is that I don't know how to start working on this review, what I do is that I could start by not dividing it by characteristics, since the most remarkable thing about the film is the construction of the stages of terror (beginning, climax, outcome) and the story itself.
La verdad es que no sé como empezar a trabajar esta review, lo que sí, es que podría empezar por no dividirla por características, ya que lo más destacable de la película es la construcción de las etapas del terror (inicio, clímax, desenlace) y la historia en si.
The initial plot is this (and I say "initial" because the plot twist at the end changes the perception of the initial plot) Pim is an attractive woman who lives in South Korea with her husband, on her birthday she receives the news that her mother has suffered a heart attack and is hospitalized, so Pim and her husband are forced to travel to Thailand to keep an eye on her. It is during her arrival and subsequent stay at her birthplace that strange things begin to happen to Pim, and they are all related to her dead Siamese twin sister.
El argumento inicial es el siguiente (y digo "inicial" porque el giro de trama al final cambia la percepción del argumento inicial) Pim es una mujer atractiva que vive en Corea del Sur con su marido, el día de su cumpleaños recibe la noticia de que su madre ha sufrido un infarto y está internada, por lo que Pim y su marido se ven obligados a viajar a Tailandia para estar al pendiente de ella. Es durante su llegada y posterior estadía a su casa natal donde cosas extrañas empiezan a sucederle a Pim, y todas están relacionadas con su hermana gemela siamesa muerta.
The horror work, as I said before, is very good. The shots are interesting, like those with blur where the protagonist is well focused but the ghost (in this case) is staged with blur, which increases the level of terror since we see what the protagonist ignores. I spoke about this plane when I analyzed "The Conjuring" because James Wan (my favorite director and director of that film) is of Malay origin and this type of resource is the hallmark of Asian terror.
El trabajo del terror, como dije antes es muy bueno, los planos son interesantes, como aquellos con desenfoque donde el protagonista está bien enfocado pero el fantasma (en este caso) esta puesto en escena con desenfoque, lo que aumenta el nivel de terror, ya que nosotros vemos lo que el protagonista ignora. De este plano hablé en El Conjuro, y es que James Wan (mi director preferido y director de esa cinta) es de origen Malayo, y este tipo de recursos es sello del terror asiático.
As for the filters, they are also interesting, during the day the typical gray filter (which denotes cloudy days) is not used, but a faded sepia color that also generates that feeling of hopelessness in the viewer. At night the typical blue filter is used, however if we talk about the lighting of the film, there it leaves a lot to be desired, since in their desire to raise the level of terror in these scenes, they use very little lighting, therefore the The plane is blurred and you can hardly see the ghost (at least they make up for it with other good and clear shots of the ghost)
En cuanto a los filtros, también son interesantes, de día no se utiliza el típico filtro gris (que denota días nublados) sino un color sepia deslucido que también genera esa sensación de desesperanza en el espectador. De noche se emplea el típico filtro azul, sin embargo si hablamos de la iluminación de la película, ahí si deja bastante que desear, ya que en su afán de elevar el nivel del terror en dichas escenas, usan muy poca iluminación, por ende el plano queda difuso y casi no se puede ver al fantasma (al menos lo compensan con otros planos buenos y diáfanos del fantasma)
The photo above is an example of how you can make a dark shot to favor terror, but making your central focus on the ghost, with a little light that allows sharpness and does not burn the shot.
La foto de arriba es un ejemplo de como puedes hacer un plano oscuro para favorecer el terror, pero haciendo tu foco central en el fantasma, con un poco de luz que permita la nitidez y no queme el plano.
Regarding the performances, script and dynamism of this one, I must say that it is an amazing job, the movie never gets boring, even though a few scenes are a bit slow, the mystery is always there, so you want to know what happens at the end, and what Pim's family hides, as I said, terror does its job very well. The performances are very good, even more so from the protagonist who, although I can't say exactly why (since it would reveal the importance of the plot twist), she should do more acting work, she should make an amazing display of personalities and mark each one so as not to confuse to the viewer.
En cuanto a las actuaciones, guion y dinamismo de este, debo decir que es un trabajo asombroso, la película nunca se torna aburrida, pese que algunas pocas escenas son un tanto lentas, el misterio esta siempre presente para que quieras saber que sucede al final y que esconde la familia de Pim, tal como dije, el terror cumple muy bien con su función. Las actuaciones son muy buenas, más aún de la protagonista que aunque no puedo decir exactamente porqué (ya que revelaría lo importante del giro de trama) ella debe hacer más trabajo actoral, debe hacer un despliegue de personalidades asombroso y marcar cada una para no confundir al espectador.
What I have to applaud the film and what is the best of all that I already mentioned, is the handling of the story and the plot twist at the end, you literally never see it coming. Even though I am not easily surprised on horror and mystery movies and often sense what's going to happen, this movie took me completely by surprise (something that also happened to me with The Sinister Island, a movie starring DiCaprio). Both, the performances and the structure of the film are very well worked, so it does not allow us to guess what will happen and the outcome is extremely surprising.
Lo que tengo que aplaudir de la cinta y que es lo mejor de todo lo que ya mencioné, es el manejo de la historia y del giro de trama al final, literalmente nunca lo ves venir. Aun cuando suelo ser aguda con las películas de terror y misterio y muchas veces intuyo lo que pasará, esta película me tomó por sorpresa completamente (algo que también me pasó con La Isla Siniestra, una película protagonizada con Di Caprio). Tanto las actuaciones como la estructura de la película están muy bien trabajadas, por lo que no nos permite adivinar lo que pasará y el desenlace es extremadamente sorprendente.
Honestly, I fully recommend it, the structure is dynamic so it doesn't get boring, it's entertaining and fulfills very well what its genre promises, scaring, tension and terror are guaranteed. The characters are deep and despite being few, this does not diminish the level of quiality. The cinematographic and artistic work is also well cared for, thus achieving a very good horror movie.
Honestamente la recomiendo enteramente, la estructura es dinámica por lo tanto no aburre, es entretenida y cumple muy bien con lo que promete su género, asustar, la tensión y el terror están asegurados. Los personajes son profundos y a pesar de ser pocos esto no disminuye el nivel de calidad. El trabajo cinematográfico y artístico también está bien cuidado, logrando así una muy buena película de terror.
