In the past few months, I have watched several productions about people with superpowers but instead of going the Marvel way, these stories are grounded on real-life situations and normal people that happen to have extended abilities. Freaks is one of these movies, and The Boys is a series with a different take but its basic premise revolves around people with superpowers.
Today's movie is Code 8, and the plot is about a man with little money but with important financial needs. We all know that when people urgently need more money they will do whatever it takes to get it. Therefore, this movie belongs in the action + crime genre and it was quite fun and it had a unique take on the super "hero" sub-genre.
In this world, there are a lot of people with special abilities that earn their living in the underworld, doing all sorts of crimes and robberies. They are kind of rejected by society because the majority of the population doesn't have any powers. Unlike the X Men or other famous superheroes, in this case, the majority powers are about being able to manipulate electricity, heal people, and abilities related to ice and extreme temperatures that allow the person to melt all kinds of stuff.
This story happens in a society that is a little bit futuristic. The police use assault robots and drones that are about the size of a truck and are always patrolling the city. It certainly looked like the technology is something possible to have in the real world, with the exception, of course, of the superpowers.
The acting was ok, nothing major but it was a good job. The best thing about this movie was simply its take in the superpower category. It is a good movie to watch if you want action with not idolized and sometimes quite humble super "heroes".
I personally preferred Freaks because it was much more intriguing and exciting, but Code 8 is certainly a good choice if you are looking for a cool action movie.

- Unique take on the superpowers category.
- People with superpowers have regular more realistic lives.
- Cool drones and robots from the police.
The worst
- There is no sense of intrigue, this is simply action. This can be something possible for action fans.
- No great twists or anything similar.
