A few days ago I realized that season 2 of this show was released at the end of last year and I had missed it. It is not always possible to keep up with everything that is being released and I had completely forgotten about this series. I think this might have happened because I always wait for a series to be completely released in order to binge-watch it, and the last episode was released on December 20, so I probably was busy with other activities and events. Time went on and I simply forgot about the series. The good thing is that I finally rediscovered it and last night I finished watching season 2.

As mentioned in the paragraph above, the most popular actor is James McAvoy, who has participated in several important films such as Split and its sequel Glass, and he has played Professor X in several X-Men films. He has participated in many more great films throughout his career but I believe the 2 characters he played in those movies are the most well-known. HBO created the trailers for the first season and it looked like this guy was going to be important, and in the background of the story, he is important, but he doesn't get much screen time and in season 2 his screen time is like 2 minutes.
The main character is played by Dafne Keen, a young actress who looks much more mature than what could be expected for her age. She is one of the best kid actors I have seen and will certainly have a great career in the years to come. I have only seen her before in the film Logan where she plays Wolverine's daughter with the same wild nature and mutant powers.
Andrew Scott is another actor I was able to recognize because he played the villain in a cool Sherlock Holmes series from a few years ago. He has participated in a handful of cool films in the past few years but just like James McAvoy, his presence in season 2 was very limited and he just played a secondary role.
In season 2 there are just 2 adult actors/actresses who received enough screen time, one of them Ruth Wilson who despite having enough previous works is an actress that I have never seen before on the screen. She plays a sort of villain even though she reiterates she just wants what's best. The other one is Ariyon Bakare, who in season 2 plays a sneaky guy who pretends to be trustworthy. The 2 most popular films where he has previously worked are Rogue One and Life, he played secondary roles in both of them.
The series has 2 directors, Jamie Childs, who always work directed episodes for TV series, he has also worked in Doctor Who, The Sandman, and a few other shows. The other director is Leanne Welham, who just like Jamie, always works directed episodes for series or shorts. In both of their cases, His Dark Materials is the most important production so far.

In the first season, the main character named Lyra, played by Dafne Keen, lives in Jordan College, Oxford under the care of the scholars. She learns something important about a strange substance they call "dust" and will begin a journey that will take her to different worlds. Her world is extremely religious and therefore it isn't free, knowledge about certain things like "dust" is forbidden, and there is a conspiracy that makes her suspect about everything.
In season 2, the topic of multiple worlds will be properly explored, a new creature is introduced called specters which are very similar to Harry Potter's dementors. The entire series has a similar feeling to Harry Potter movies but magic is not used as much. The story so far is also not as epic but still very enjoyable. We also learn more about what is known as Dust in Lyra's world, which up to that moment was something very mysterious and magical.
The story as a whole is between 2 sides that will battle each other in an upcoming war in season 3, one led by something called the Authority, and the other by people who want to rebel and achieve freedom for all.
Besides talking animals, there are also magical artifacts, witches, magic of course, and prophecies. So all the necessary elements that a proper fantasy story needs are there. There were, however, some things that I didn't like such as silly mistakes from important characters while they were in dangerous territory, and the series of events in the entire season 2 was disorganized, I mean, it is not always possible to realize what is the goal of the characters or what are they attempting to achieve.

The performance from the cast was acceptable. In my opinion, the character with the best performance is the one played by Ruth Wilson. She does such a great work portraying the egoistic and maybe even psychopathic nature of her character.
Dafne Keen also does a good job portraying the fierce and brave nature of her character, although she could display more emotions from time to time. Her character has experienced a lot of difficulties and pain and this isn't always portrayed in her facial gestures. Maybe it could be because her character has grown insensitive after so much pain but since the character is still very young I don't think this is the case.
One of the best things about this series is the settings. We get to see so a few cool places and the CGI was also top-notch. The camera work was good but nothing really worth mentioning, it was just normal camera work. What made everything look attractive was once again, the cool settings and great CGI.

His Dark Materials is a fine fantasy series. I enjoyed the first season a bit more because it was easier to follow the plot in that one. In season 2, the characters are all scattered around in different places and everything seems messier. There wasn't as much drama or intense moments as in season 1, but at least new creatures, places, and magic artifacts were introduced.
Everything is pointing at a very epic season 3 in which we will see a multi-world battle against the Authority. However, I don't like that after 2 complete seasons they still haven't explained what is actually the Authority? Is it powerful beings from another reality? A powerful organization? I don't know. Since almost all events are related to this conflict they should have explained everything by now.
I plan to watch season 3 when it comes out, and I expect it to be the final season, otherwise, this show will run the risk of being ruined by overmilking it. But so far it remains a good show in my view.

La actuación del elenco fue aceptable. En mi opinión, el personaje con mejor actuación es el que interpreta Ruth Wilson. Ella hace un gran trabajo retratando la naturaleza egoísta y tal vez incluso psicopática de su personaje.
Dafne Keen también hace un buen trabajo al retratar la naturaleza feroz y valiente de su personaje, aunque podría mostrar más emociones de vez en cuando. Su personaje ha experimentado muchas dificultades y dolor y esto no siempre se refleja en sus gestos faciales. Tal vez podría ser porque su personaje se ha vuelto insensible después de tanto dolor, pero como el personaje aún es muy joven, no creo que este sea el caso.
Una de las mejores cosas de esta serie es la ambientación. Llegamos a ver algunos lugares interesantes y el CGI también fue de primera categoría. El trabajo de la cámara fue bueno, pero nada que realmente valga la pena mencionar, fue un trabajo de cámara normal. His Dark Materials es una fina serie de fantasía. Disfruté un poco más la primera temporada porque era más fácil seguir la trama en esa. En la temporada 2, los personajes están todos dispersos en diferentes lugares y todo parece más desordenado. No hubo tanto drama ni momentos intensos como en la temporada 1, pero al menos se introdujeron nuevas criaturas, lugares y artefactos mágicos.
Todo apunta a una temporada 3 muy épica en la que veremos una batalla multimundo contra la Autoridad. Sin embargo, no me gusta que después de 2 temporadas completas todavía no hayan explicado qué es realmente la Autoridad. ¿Se trata de seres poderosos de otra realidad? ¿Una organización poderosa? No sé. Dado que casi todos los eventos están relacionados con este conflicto, ya deberían haberlo explicado todo.
Planeo ver la temporada 3 cuando salga, y espero que sea la temporada final, de lo contrario, este programa correrá el riesgo de arruinarse por ordeñarlo en exceso. Pero hasta ahora sigue siendo un buen show en mi opinión.
