Last night I finished watching the last season so far in the Psycho-Pass world and sadly it wasn't as fun as I was expecting it to be. The first thing that puzzled me was to see Akane was living now. It made me think I had missed an early movie or something but it turns out that was not the case. The show simply takes place sometime in the near future and this big change regarding her life happened off-screen.

Then, when the 2 main inspectors are introduced, it turns out one of them which is also like a child and a bit immature is a mentalist. He puts on his headphones and suddenly his mind is able to capture basic information about certain events. This show is action and scifi, not fantasy. Maybe this bad start conditioned all of my potential enjoyment of the season.

The story doesn't have much relation with the previous ones, the main characters are all different and the ones from previous seasons only make small appearances from time to time. The new characters aren't even half as charismatic and the villains didn't feel as evil as those from before.

Sometimes that is new and was first introduced in this series is a group of people who are religious-like, and have their own agenda regarding the system in which the entire society is based on. What the inspectors try to do is what they always do, try to stop criminals from disrupting society and trying to maintain peace with the help of the Sibyl system.

The show continues to be good and its main genres continue to be the same, but there were simply too many changes that preventing me from enjoying it as much as the previous seasons. Not only is changed the entire cast without any explanation but also the addition of silly skills like being a mentalist and being a super fighter at times.

Nevertheless, for those who are fans of the Psycho-Pass world this series might be worth watching. In my case, I still have the "First Inspector" stories to watch that take place after the events of this season, if those stories are good then watching season 3 would have been worth it.

The best

  • It has its fun moments but I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous seasons.

The worst

  • The main detective is a rookie and a mentalist which felt anti-climatic for me.
  • The inspectors' fighting skills were almost paranormal on some occasions.
  • The show doesn't explain what happened to the main inspector in previous seasons, Akane Tsunemori.
