After finishing Psycho-Pass Season 2 a few days ago, the next story that takes place in this futuristic world is also the first Psycho-Pass movie. As I mentioned in the previous article about this show, there are 3 seasons and 3 movies. 2 of those movies are divided into 3 parts but the first one, the one I just saw, is just a regular movie lasting almost 2 hours.

Unlike the first 2 seasons of the show, the movie doesn't take place in Japan but in a neighboring country that has recently adopted the Sibyl system from Japan. This type of system is the dream of every totalitarian dictator and tyrant. It eliminates the presumption of innocence and all major decisions regarding criminals are decided by the crime coefficient of each individual, which is calculated by Sibyl and its immense processing capacity. Therefore, if a person hasn't committed a crime but has a high crime coefficient, then that person is screwed.

Japan began to export this system in what I believe could be a similar fashion to the one China will use in real-life when they begin to export their social credit system in the coming years. China's social credit system might be considered a sort of predecessor to this futuristic and dystopic Sibyl system.

The country where this story takes place has a lot of internal powers, there are terrorists, corruption in the military, civil war, and all of this results in a lack of sufficient economic resources. This movie presents in a very casual way the method this country has to deal with peaceful individuals with a high crime coefficient. These people are forced to wear a locked collar that can, at any moment, inject a deadly poison into their bodies and quickly kill them. This method should guarantee these potentially dangerous individuals behave correctly.

It isn't hard to imagine what might go wrong if a system such as this one is implemented. The government is usually the most corrupted entity there is, and the more power they have, the more dangerous they become despite how much effort they put into keeping a good reputation.

The main character is the same female inspector as in the previous 2 seasons, and she goes to this neighboring country to investigate a group of terrorists that were doing crimes in Japan. She will get to know in person members of the government of this country, and the major surprise will be a return of a very important character that has been on the run for a good while. This country is even more dystopic than the Japan from the first 2 seasons and provides a new perspective regarding the enormous risks of using the Sibyl system.

If you enjoy the cyberpunk genre this show is a good watch. It provides a proper sequel to the 2 seasons and I am excited there is still a lot of content about this world. It is certainly a high-quality anime.
