This Korean production from Netflix is one of the best movies released this November. The story has an unexplainable event as its trigger but it is not really a horror film. This event is a phone call that somehow connects the current inhabitant of a house with a woman who lived there around 20 years in the past.
The house and its past inhabitants have a dark story that I won't go into to not spoil anything but there are many reasons why this woman is the way she is, and the fact these calls were possible is certainly the result of the type of activities that took place in that home.
The calls begin by accident and in a friendly way. They quickly realize what's happening and after overcoming the initial shock, they seem to be happy to have this type of unique connection. No toxic energy and attitude were present at the beginning.

Things quickly derail and hostility between these 2 women will cause massive harm. They aren't on an even playfield of course, given the fact one is in the past and can affect the future and the other one is just in the present with a hostile person living in another time she cannot have access to.
The film explores a type of blackmail that I have never seen in any other film. It is a dark psychological thriller since there are some cruel attitudes and a bit of sadism but it doesn't have gore or excessive blood. The paranormal part of the film is limited to just the fact the call is possible, there is no other unexplainable stuff apart from this.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers then The Call is a must-watch film in my opinion. It can make the viewer feel the same impotence that some of the characters portrayed throughout the movie, it does a good job keeping you interested, and a few twists in the end.

The best
- Entertaining story with an original twist in this type of time traveling communication.
The worst
- A few characters are incredibly naive and innocent which made them very vulnerable.
