Of all the films I've seen this year, this one surpasses the rest in terms of satisfaction. The ending was impressive, that I had to applaud the characters involved. While revenge isn't typically my thing, watching a psychopath get a taste of their own medicine, without any legal intervention, left me beaming with satisfaction, much like a girl receiving flowers for the first time.
Synopsis
Jordan (Halle Berry) is a seasoned 911 operator who receives a distressing call from a teenage girl, Casey Welson (Abigail Breslin), who has been abducted and locked in the trunk of a moving car. As Jordan races against time to save Casey, she realizes that the kidnapper is someone connected to her past failures, one that made her put a hold on her career. Fueled by guilt and determination, she steps beyond her usual role to stop the serial predator before it’s too late.
Review and Rating
From the very beginning of this film, I was gripped with its high stakes tension. Trust me, it does an excellent job of immersing viewers in the nerve-wracking world of emergency response, with Halle Berry delivering a compelling performance as Jordan, a woman whose calm, professional exterior hides lingering trauma from a previous case gone wrong. I initially watched this film because of Halle’s casting. She’s one name that’s been hyped lately on my TikTok’s FYP so I decided to check out her film and tbh she’s good at what she does.
Abigail Breslin(Had to look up her name) is equally impressive as Casey, capturing the realistic terror of a teenage girl fighting to stay alive. The film’s use of real time pacing also adds to the suspense, making every moment feel urgent and unpredictable. The interactions between Jordan and Casey over the phone are some of the most intense sequences in the movie making it even more realistic and also helps in building suspense.
I especially loved the shift from a tight, procedural thriller to a more traditional revenge driven climax. I admired Jordan’s decision to step out of her professional role and personally confront the kidnapper. I mean why not? Although a particular critic said it pushes the film into a more formulaic thriller territory, slightly weakening the well crafted tension built earlier but, I beg to differ because that scene and decision was epic.
Now let’s talk about the one flaw of the film. It lies in the character of the antagonist, Michael. He absolutely gives a chilling performance but, his character lacks deeper development beyond being a stereotypical serial killer. I craved a backstory. Why was he unto teenage girls? Why did he need their hair? The pictures that were scattered about in his lair, who was in them? These questions if at all answered could have made him an even more compelling villain.
The Call is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that excels in its suspenseful setup and strong lead performances. The film delivers a gripping experience that keeps you engaged until the end. Therefore if you’re looking for a high-intensity thriller with emotional stakes, this one is worth watching.
"Faces we see hearts we do not know" I remember many times when my mother told me this before going to school or high school, and is that far from being an overprotective mother she knew that I should be careful because in the world there are people who seem to be good, but in reality they are worse than the devil, because their intentions are so bad that it would be scary to know what is in the heart of each of them. And throughout my life I have remembered that and somehow I have been able to stay out of danger and stay away from people who emit something evil and you know they can hurt you, thanks to that so far in my 25 years nothing bad has happened to me.
But that is a reality that not everyone lives, since a dangerous situation varies greatly from one country to another, for example, if I were in Haiti right now I would be in danger just for going out in the street, because of the constant riots and the gang war against the police nobody can go out in the street, but what would happen if I were in the United States? Well, I would not be so sure, since according to studies it is more likely to die from a gunshot in the U.S. than from a snake or shark bite, or as in other cases that some psychopath kidnaps you and murders you. And that is what The Call is about, an amazing and shocking thriller movie released in 2013 and although it lasts 94 minutes, it is so shocking that you will never forget it and you will always be alert to danger, In The Call we can see in detail the great trauma that lives a blonde girl who is kidnapped by a psychopath and where an emergency operator tries to help, although this may mean risking her life. So let's talk a little bit about the plot and my opinion about this movie.
"Caras vemos corazones no sabemos" Recuerdo muchas veces cuando mi madre me decía esto antes de ir a la escuela o al liceo, y es que lejos de ser una mama sobreprotectora ella sabía que yo debía tener cuidado ya que en el mundo hay personas que parecen ser buenas, pero en realidad son peores que el diablo, ya que sus intenciones son tan malas que asustaría conocer lo que hay en el corazón de cada uno de ellos. Y a lo largo de mi vida he recordado eso y de alguna manera he podido estar a raya del peligro y mantenerme alejado de personas que emiten algo maligno y que sabes que te pueden hacer daño, gracias a eso hasta ahora en mis 25 años nada malo me ha pasado.
Pero eso es una realidad que no todos viven, ya que una situación de peligro varía mucho de un país a otro, por ejemplo, si estuviera en Haití ahora mismo pues estaría en peligro nada más por salir a la calle, ya que por los constantes disturbios y la guerra de pandillas contra la policía nadie puede salí a la calle, ¿pero ¿qué pasaría si estuviera en los estados unidos? Pues que tampoco estaría tan seguro, ya que segun estudios es más probable que mueras de un disparo en EEUU que por una mordida de serpiente o tiburón, o como en otros casos que algún psicópata te secuestre y te asesine. Y de eso es lo que trata The Call, una asombrosa e impactante película del género thriller lanzada en el 2013 y aunque dura 94 minutos, es tan impactante que nunca la olvidaras y siempre estarás alerta ante el peligro, En The Call podemos ver a detalle el gran trauma que vive una chica rubia que es secuestrada por un psicópata y donde una operadora de emergencias trata de ayudar, aunque esto pueda significar arriesgar su vida. Así que hablemos un poco de la trama y mi opinión sobre esta película.
The Call begins with emergency call operator Jordan Turner. On a routine day she receives a call from a teenager who is scared because a man broke into the house, Jordan gives her some indications to try to avoid this man and run away when she has the chance, but everything goes wrong and the man kidnaps the girl and then kills her, and a few days later the police find the girl's body abandoned. Jordan, upon seeing this, resigns from answering emergency calls because she feels very upset and does not feel able to continue doing that job. But some time later Jordan is working as a trainer of new emergency call operators, when during a class, one of the interns is called by a teenager who is kidnapped, Casey Welson who calls from a phone when she is stuffed in the trunk of a car. But the situation gets complicated when Jordan answers the call from Casey Welson and the kidnapper realizes it, then a series of events happen where innocent people die and Jordan enters many times in crisis because he does not want to repeat the situation of before, so he puts all his efforts to help Casey, but will Jordan manage to help her? or will he die trying? He invites you to watch the movie so you can find out.
The Call comienza con la operadora de llamadas de emergencias Jordan Turner. Donde en un día de rutina recibe una llamada de una adolescente que se siente asustada porque un hombre entro a la casa, Jordan le da algunas indicaciones para tratar de evitar a este hombre y huir cuando tenga la oportunidad, pero todo sale mal y el hombre secuestra a la chica para luego matarla, y unos días después la policía encuentra al cuerpo de la chica abandonado. Jordan al ver esto renuncia a atender llamadas de emergencias ya que se siente muy alterada y no se siente capas de seguir realizando esa labor. Pero un tiempo después Jordan está trabajando como entrenadora de nuevos operadores de llamadas de emergencia, cuando durante una clase, a una de las pasantes la llama una adolescente que esta secuestrada, Casey Welson es quien llama de un teléfono cuando está metida en el baúl de un carro. Pero la situación se complica cuando Jordan atiende la llamada de Casey Welson y el secuestrador se da cuenta, allí pasan una serie de sucesos donde mueren personas inocentes y Jordan entra muchas veces en crisis porque no quiere que la situación de antes vuelva a repetirse, así que pone todo su empeño para ayudar a Casey, ¿pero lograra Jordan ayudarla? o Morirá en el intento? Te invita a ver la película para que puedas descubrirlo.
I want to say as I mentioned at the beginning of the review, that this film is extremely shocking, since the situation presented here is something that could happen to anyone, and seeing Casey with no way out in the trunk of a car trying everything to be rescued makes you reflect on what a person who is in that situation can feel. That without thinking about it one day she leaves her house and doesn't come back. That's why I mentioned the phrase "faces we see, but hearts we don't know", since we don't know the intentions that someone may have when they look at us on the street.
Quiero decir como mencione al principio de la reseña, que esta película es sumamente impactante, ya que la situación que presentan aquí es algo que le pudiera ocurrir a cualquiera, y el ver a Casey sin salida en una cajuela de un carro intentando de todo para que la rescaten te hace reflexionar en lo que puede sentir una persona que está en esa situación. Que sin pensarlo un día sale de su casa y no vuelve. Por eso mencionaba la frase cara vemos, pero corazones no sabemos, ya que no sabemos las intenciones que alguien pueda tener cuando nos mira en la calle.
In addition, Halle Berry's solid performance was splendid, as the intense emotions such as fear, anguish or despair manifested in an amazing way, and of course for this amazing work she was nominated for a BET award. And the same I can say about Abigail Breslin's performance, this girl is amazing since at no time her performance feels forced rather the fear is seen in her eyes, also when Jordan gives her instructions to be located the fear makes her hands tremble, but she manages to do what she is told, also when the kidnapper kills a man in front of her the tension rises even more showing much more fear. So this movie has the basic ingredients to be recommended, and these are solid performances, shocking plot and an epic ending because the ending is the most epic thing you will see :D
Además, la sólida actuación de Halle Berry fue esplendida, ya que las emociones intensas como el miedo, la angustia o la desesperación la manifiesta de un modo asombroso, y claro por este asombroso trabajo estuvo nominada a un premio BET. Y lo mismo puedo decir de la actuación de Abigail Breslin, esta chica es asombrosa ya que en ningún momento se siente forzada su actuación más bien el miedo se le ve en los ojos, además cuando Jordan le da instrucciones para que la localicen el miedo hace que le tiemblen las manos, pero logra hacer lo que le dicen, además cuando el secuestrador mata a un hombre frente a ella la tensión se eleva aún más mostrando mucho más miedo. Así que esta película cuenta con los ingredientes básicos para ser recomendada, y estos son actuaciones sólidas, trama impactante y un final épico porque el final es lo más épico que veras :D
Although I'm disappointed that it didn't receive significant awards, since I searched so much on the internet I didn't get anything and now it's a film that is almost forgotten. But for me it is a film comparable to Get Out or Don't Breathe where suspense and intrigue flood a wonderful plot. In fact, the box office success of The Call was so huge that they could have released a sequel, but so far nothing has been said about it and it seems that it is a story that was buried, although I would have loved a sequel.

Aunque si me decepciona que no recibiera premios significativos, ya que de tanto buscar en internet no conseguí nada y ahora mismo es una película que casi queda en el olvido. Pero para mi es una película comparable a Get Out o Don't Breathe donde el suspenso y la intriga inundan una maravillosa trama. De hecho, el éxito en taquilla de The Call fue enorme que pudieron haber lanzado una secuela, pero hasta ahora nada se ha dicho al respecto y parece que es una historia que quedó sepultada, aunque si me hubiera encantado que hubiera una continuación.
Pero, en conclusión, es una película asombrosa que te dejara helado a medida que la veas, ya que he como una tensión de cuerdas infinita donde el final es el momento más impactante, así que, si no la has visto te la recomiendo totalmente, y si ya la has visto hazme saber en los comentarios que te ha parecido, muchas gracias pro leer y nos vemos en una próxima ocasión :D

Where it is shown that through a call is when the biggest disaster begins and the problems for everyone, fear, anguish, despair and the desire to end everything as soon as possible.
Desde el primer momento que comencé a ver la película tenía la sensación de que en cualquier momento iba a suceder algo malo por el hecho de cómo se estaba desarrollando el tema. Es muy común que en las calles haya mucha gente mala, que están dispuestos a dañarle la vida a las personas, ya sea maltratándolas, robándolas o hasta matándolas, en este caso como se presenta en la película, el secuestro, la cual es un tema bastante complicado, duro de aceptar, donde la vida la persona está en juego, ya que una mala decisión o un mal movimiento que haga la policía, puede afectar muchísimo. Donde se muestra que a través de una llamada es cuando comienza el mayor desastre y los problemas para todos, el miedo, la angustia, desesperación y las ganas de que se acabe todo lo antes posible.

Esta excelente producción está cargada de muchas escenas que de verdad que son muy buenas, llena de suspenso, miedo, donde me puse a pensar miles de cosas que aún no pude entender, sino hasta que culmino la película, por el hecho de que son un poco fuertes, y pensé que eso no puede suceder en la vida real. Sin embargo, una de las cosas que si me gustó muchísimo es como se fue desarrollando todo ese caso, poco a poco salían las pistas, preguntas, señales, testigos y la llamada telefónica se mantenía siempre en un suspenso.

El caso que se estaba llevando a cabo en el desarrollo de la película fue atendido por una sola persona del grupo de policías encargado del secuestro, persona que era muy reconocida por su trabajo, profesionalismo y la forma como respondía cada llamada que entraban a la estación y sobre todo tener la experiencia de haber vivido un caso parecido. Además, se nota que en ningún momento se rindió, no se asustó y pudo realizar con eficiencia y calidad su trabajo, trabajo que se necesita estar activo todo el día, con una capacidad y estar preparado psicológicamente, ya que uno no sabe cuándo puede entrar una llamada de emergencia.

In addition, it shows teamwork, union, being willing to receive recommendations and orders from everyone, in order to solve the case as soon as possible.
Otras de las cosas que pude notar durante esta película es que el trabajo que se realiza bajo presión, mucho estrés, es decir, estar activo, no hay descanso en ningún momento y sobre todo cuando se trata de una estación de policía, trabajo que no es nada fácil, cabe de destacar que a pesar de que se le escaparon algunas cosas y otras que lo hacen muy bien, me gusto. Además, se muestra el trabajo en equipo, la unión, estar dispuestos a recibir recomendaciones y órdenes de todos, para así poder solucionar lo antes posible dicho caso.

También en este tipo de situaciones donde la vida de alguien está en riesgo, muchas palabras no son de mucha ayuda, ya que muchos comienzan a dar opiniones y el tiempo juega un papel muy importante y al final será un fracaso. Por eso lo que pude aprender es que cuando se toma un caso es mejor resolverlo en el menor tiempo que sea posible, siempre y cuando se pueda, para así evitar desastre mayor y evitar angustia, y que sea la persona indicada para resolverlo.

Esta película cuenta con una gran cantidad de actores que son muy buenos y todos tuvieron que ver en este caso de la adolescente, donde muchos pusieron un granito de arena con el fin de resolver este caso, que causo un impacto y un gran trauma en su vida. La primera de ella es la actriz Halle Beery, quien es la encargada de esa línea telefónica y de llevar el caso en sus manos, donde desde un principio se nota que está concentrada y metida en su papel, una personalidad única y una forma de pensar distinta y de resolver, quien se destacó y gracias a ella se pudo salvar la vida a esta chica, que también lo hace muy bien y hace el papel más difícil de la película.

Por supuesto, el gran equipo de la policía, que pone todo su empeño, tomando el control de todas las calles, una vigilancia muy extrema dentro de la ciudad y fue llevando poco a poco el proceso de investigación y por último al actor Michael Eklund, quien hace el papel del asesino, una de las cosas que me llamo la atención de él es como realizo ese personaje, la personalidad, es decir un cambio total de emociones y de su actitud durante la película.
What I could learn once I finished watching it, is that if we fall for any situation or we are about to give up, the only thing you can do is to start again from the beginning and get up to keep fighting until the end, to achieve whatever, also do not get carried away by the fear of something that happened in the past, and that happened we must live the present with great optimism, so enjoy and continue forward in life.
Lo que pude aprender una vez que culmine de verla, es que si nos caemos por cualquiera situación o estamos a punto de rendirnos, lo único que se puede hacer es volver a empezar desde el principio y levantarnos para seguir luchando hasta el final, para poder lograr lo que sea, además no hay que dejarse llevar el miedo de algo sucedido en el pasado, ya eso pasó hay que vivir el presente con mucho optimismo, por eso disfruta y continua hacia adelante en la vida.

Hola cinéfilos, en esta oportunidad deseo compartir con ustedes una película que me llamó la atención desde la sinopsis en el servicio de streaming de Netflix, por lo cual decidí ver y calmar mi curiosidad, es una producción que capta mi atención ya que involucra el tema del tiempo en su guion, por lo cual me ha parecido interesante para ver y analizar para finalmente compartir mi opinión con todos ustedes, la película se llama El Teléfono.
Parecerá que no tiene el titulo más original del mundo, ciertamente puede confundirse con otras producciones anteriormente vistas en el cine, sin embargo, esta producción surcoreana del 2020 nos propone una mezcla entre una historia de tiempo y espacio cambiante con un poco de terror provocado por un asesino, por lo cual es una historia que en líneas generales es interesante y llamativa, sobre todo para los amantes de las paradojas y las líneas diferentes líneas de tiempo, al menos ese es mi caso, básicamente deseo analizar todo lo que tenga que ver con el tiempo, eso particularmente me agrada y esta película nos muestra algunos efectos o consecuencias de hacer cambios en el pasado.
Sinopsis:
A través de un teléfono dos mujeres se comunican a pesar de que las separa 20 años en el tiempo, lo cual desencadena cambios significativos en la línea de tiempo, lo que hace salir a la luz un perturbador secreto que cubrirá el pasado y el presente con sangre.
Hay películas que claramente recordaremos debido a que nos hacen pensar en las consecuencias de cambiar tan solo un aspecto del pasado, para mí es inevitable recordar la película Efecto Mariposa, es una de esas películas que muestran de una manera ejemplar como es cambiada la línea del tiempo a partir de cambiar algunos instantes del pasado. Aunque no es comparable esta película trata de llegar a ese punto donde algunos cambios del pasado hacen que la realidad en el presente sea totalmente distinta, es sin dudas un tema que atrae a un sinfín de espectadores alrededor del mundo, no es para menos, es un tema bastante interesante.
El Tiempo
Así como en la película Efecto Mariposa, esta película contempla una sola línea de tiempo, no existe el multiverso donde se cambian líneas de tiempo en otras dimensiones, lo que ocurre en el pasado afectará directamente el presente, sin dudas nos resulta interesante este aspecto debido a que muchas películas nos han mostrado lo desastroso que puede ser alterar el pasado, la protagonista de esta historia conocerá en carne propia esas consecuencias que tanto alertó el Dr. Emmett Brown de Volver al Futuro.
En la película Efecto Mariposa, el actor se dedicaba a recordar el pasado en fotos, películas o en el diario, haciendo un efecto de cámara hasta llegar al momento que deseaba, en el caso de El Teléfono, la realidad no es cambiada a voluntad, sino que es la consecuencia de lo que ocurra exactamente 20 años atrás. Esa es la ventana en el tiempo solamente 20 años y es importante tenerlo presente al momento de sacar nuestras conclusiones finales.
Si algo es cambiado a las 1:01 pm 20 años en el pasado, la realidad para la protagonista cambiará exactamente a las 1:01 pm del presente, tener esa lógica anclada a los 20 años exactos es lo que permite el cambio repentino de la realidad, para ello la película realiza unos efectos visuales interesantes, no de lo más vistoso del cine, pero son decentes que le otorgan un poco de emoción a la película durante ese cambio de realidad el cual en varias ocasiones es totalmente inesperado.
Todo esto ocurre gracias a ese teléfono que se comunica directamente al pasado, la película no explica como sucede o que explicación científica o paranormal se puede asumir para este irregular hecho, simplemente “sucede y ya” aunque esto puede ser un asunto de menor importancia para el espectador es una ventana que puede causar algo de confusión.
Un aspecto en que siempre estoy atento en las películas sobre el tiempo en es la lógica que nos presenta, ciertamente se estructura bajo la narrativa de una sola línea de tiempo que es cambiada, pero que es limitada por esos 20 años que anteriormente hice referencia, una vez cambiado el presente a partir de un cambio en el pasado ya el tiempo vuelve a ser intocable, no hay marcha atrás. Es un aspecto interesante debido a que no se cambia la línea de tiempo a voluntad como en otras películas, sino que existe esa limitante.
La línea de tiempo es cambiada varias veces, reformando el universo, estar atento a estos detalles lógicos son de mucha importancia para comprender el final de la película, un final interesante que abre la puerta a muchas preguntas.
El final de esta película hace que debamos pensar, recaudar las pistas arrojadas por las escenas anteriores y formular nuestra propia hipótesis, algo que en lo particular me agrada, siempre y cuando la estructura del argumento y su narrativa nos guie a una interpretación totalmente aceptable desde un punto de vista lógico.
Si bien al terminar la película pensamos que el final rompe con toda la estructura argumental, a los pocos segundos nos damos cuenta que no es así, hay una explicación detrás de esos segundos finales de película, esto hace aun más interesante el film debido a que debemos colocarnos nuestro traje de detective e interpretar lo que ha sucedido, además, agrega algo de tensión con un poco de terror, algo clásico en las películas de horror. El final de la película me pareció interesante, sobre todo por la libertad de interpretación otorgada al espectador.
No hay mucho terror en este film, debo decir que más allá del asunto inexplicable del teléfono no hay una fuerza sobrenatural o mística en la película, llevándonos a un terror anclado en asesinatos provocados por una personalidad psicópata que se va desarrollando a lo largo del film. Mezclar una línea de tiempo cambiante con un personaje psicópata en el pasado puede ser un tema con mucho potencial para desarrollar una película, eso es lo que en definitiva hace interesante este film.
Sangre
Es una película que, si bien presenta alguna que otra escena sangrienta, no es su principal característica, la película contempla una buena mezcla entre el terror por asesino con la sangre, no siendo algo exagerado o forzado en la película, sino que se convierte en un aspecto complementario a la narrativa.
La historia es bastante interesante, realmente un tema que atrae la mirada de los espectadores, combinar un terror sujeto a un asesino que va cambiando el presente es algo que puede ser de gran potencial para muchas películas, esta es sin dudas el factor decisivo para ver esta película, la curiosidad.
La producción va narrada de buena manera, con una introducción para conocer cada personaje, así como su evolución cuando llega la acción y la sangre al film, posee un ritmo adecuado y todo lo que podemos ver de una película entretenida.
A mi parecer es una película que si bien tiene un toque de originalidad no explota totalmente su potencial en la pantalla, por momentos nos quedamos estacionados en un cambio de realidad en el cual solo ha cambiado la casa en donde se desarrolla la historia, sin saber mucho más allá de lo que ha sucedido, quizás profundizar un poco más en el tema del tiempo no era prioridad de los productores, realzando el terror y la intriga, aunque estos últimos no tienen una dosis significativa en el film que le resalten de otras producciones.
Es una película entretenida con un toque de oscuridad psicológica interesante, haciéndonos el eterno recordatorio de que el pasado es mejor dejarlo como está a pesar de lo difícil que pudieron ser las circunstancias.
Si, es una película bastante interesante y que tiene una dosis de entretenimiento, un ritmo que se va acelerando al pasar los minutos y una interesante evolución de personajes, es una película surcoreana que había dejado pasar y que en lo particular pensaba que era una pérdida de tiempo, agradezco que no fuera así. La recomiendo.

It will seem that it does not have the most original title in the world, certainly it can be confused with other productions previously seen in the cinema, however, this South Korean production of 2020 proposes us a mixture between a story of changing time and space with a bit of terror caused by a murderer, so it is a story that is generally interesting and striking, especially for lovers of paradoxes and different timelines, at least that's my case, basically I want to analyze everything that has to do with time, that particularly pleases me and this film shows us some effects or consequences of making changes in the past.
Synopsis:
Through a telephone two women communicate despite being 20 years apart in time, which triggers significant changes in the timeline, which brings to light a disturbing secret that will cover the past and present in blood.
There are movies that we will clearly remember because they make us think about the consequences of changing just one aspect of the past, for me it is inevitable to remember the movie Butterfly Effect, it is one of those movies that show in an exemplary way how the timeline is changed from changing some moments of the past. Although it is not comparable, this movie tries to reach that point where some changes in the past make the reality in the present totally different, it is undoubtedly a topic that attracts countless viewers around the world, it is not for less, it is a very interesting topic.
Time
As in the movie Butterfly Effect, this movie contemplates a single timeline, there is no multiverse where timelines are changed in other dimensions, what happens in the past will directly affect the present, no doubt we find this aspect interesting because many movies have shown us how disastrous it can be to alter the past, the protagonist of this story will know firsthand those consequences that Dr. Emmett Brown from Back to the Future warned so much.
In the movie Butterfly Effect, the actor was dedicated to remember the past in photos, movies or in the newspaper, making a camera effect until he reached the moment he wanted, in the case of The Telephone, reality is not changed at will, but it is the consequence of what happened exactly 20 years ago. That is the window in time only 20 years and it is important to keep that in mind when drawing our final conclusions.
If something is changed at 1:01 pm 20 years in the past, the reality for the protagonist will change exactly at 1:01 pm of the present, having that logic anchored to the exact 20 years is what allows the sudden change of reality, for this the film makes some interesting visual effects, not the most colorful of cinema, but they are decent that give a little excitement to the film during that change of reality which on several occasions is totally unexpected.
All this happens thanks to that phone that communicates directly to the past, the film does not explain how it happens or what scientific or paranormal explanation can be assumed for this irregular fact, just "it happens and that's it" although this may be a minor issue for the viewer is a window that can cause some confusion.
One aspect that I am always attentive to in films about time in is the logic presented to us, certainly it is structured under the narrative of a single timeline that is changed, but that is limited by those 20 years that I previously referred to, once the present is changed from a change in the past and time becomes untouchable again, there is no turning back. It is an interesting aspect because the timeline is not changed at will as in other films, but there is that limitation.
The timeline is changed several times, reshaping the universe, being attentive to these logical details are very important to understand the end of the film, an interesting ending that opens the door to many questions.
The ending of this film makes us think, collect the clues thrown by the previous scenes and formulate our own hypothesis, something that I particularly like, as long as the structure of the plot and its narrative leads us to a totally acceptable interpretation from a logical point of view.
Although at the end of the film we think that the ending breaks with the entire plot structure, a few seconds later we realize that it is not so, there is an explanation behind those final seconds of film, this makes the film even more interesting because we must put on our detective suit and interpret what has happened, also adds some tension with a bit of terror, something classic in horror movies. I found the ending of the film interesting, especially because of the freedom of interpretation given to the viewer.
There is not much horror in this film, I must say that beyond the unexplained phone issue there is no supernatural or mystical force in the film, leading us to a horror anchored in murders caused by a psychopathic personality that develops throughout the film. Mixing a shifting timeline with a psychopathic character in the past can be a theme with a lot of potential to develop a film, that's what ultimately makes this film interesting.
Blood
It is a film that, although it presents the occasional gory scene, it is not its main feature, the film contemplates a good mix between horror by killer with blood, not being something exaggerated or forced in the film, but it becomes a complementary aspect to the narrative.
The story is quite interesting, really a theme that attracts the eyes of the viewers, combining a terror subject to a murderer who is changing the present is something that can be of great potential for many films, this is undoubtedly the deciding factor to see this film, curiosity.
The production is narrated in a good way, with an introduction to know each character, as well as its evolution when the action and blood arrives to the film, it has an adequate pace and everything we can see of an entertaining film.
In my opinion it is a film that although it has a touch of originality does not fully exploit its potential on the screen, at times we are stuck in a change of reality in which only the house where the story takes place has changed, without knowing much more beyond what has happened, perhaps delve a little deeper into the theme of time was not a priority of the producers, enhancing the terror and intrigue, although the latter do not have a significant dose in the film that highlight it from other productions.
It is an entertaining film with an interesting touch of psychological darkness, making us the eternal reminder that the past is best left as it is despite how difficult the circumstances may have been.

Finally I come across something quite interesting on Netflix as far as science fiction and horror are concerned. It seems that Korean movies are very much in vogue and I wanted to give this production a chance which surprised me quite a bit despite not having the most original premise in the world.
Like During the Storm, which I also review in this blog, communication between different time points happens through a device, in this case we can clearly assume that it is a telephone.
Finalmente me cruzo con algo bastante interesante en Netflix en cuanto a ciencia ficción y terror se refiere. Parece que las películas coreanas están muy en boga y quise darle una oportunidad a esta producción la cual me sorprendió bastante pese a no tener la premisa más original del mundo.
Como Durante la Tormenta, la cual reseñe también en este blog, la comunicación entre distintos puntos temporales sucede a través de un dispositivo en este caso claramente podemos suponer que es un teléfono.
Seo-Yeon is a sweet and shy girl who soon receives strange calls on her home phone. Soon he will realize that those calls come from the past and that they are from a girl named Oh Young-sook. This last girl has severe problems with her mother, who is a kind of shaman or witch and who tries to cure Young-sook's mental problems using occult techniques and in a ruthless way, beating her many times.
Seo-Yeon es una chica dulce y tímida que pronto recibe extrañas llamadas al teléfono de su casa. Pronto se dara cuenta que esas llamadas provienen del pasado y que son de una chica llamada Oh Young-sook. Esta última chica tiene severos problemas con su madre, la cual es una especie de chaman o bruja y que intenta curar los problemas mentales de Young-sook a base de técnicas ocultistas y de una manera despiadada, golpeándola muchas veces.

Around here everything is fine and happy but obviously the film becomes very dark thanks to plot twists that happen without mercy. Seo-Yeon discovers that her phone friend is about to be killed by her mother and quickly alerts her by phone, from then on the changes are abrupt and Young-sook after killing her mother becomes a ruthless person.
We are talking about a girl who has serious mental problems and who were freed with the death of her mother, making her feel alive and empowered. Soon he will do his thing and this character will become a psychopath who has no judgment of empathy. In a part of the film it can be seen that this girl suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder which leads her to exalt herself in a brutal way.
Por aquí todo bien y feliz pero obviamente la película se torna muy oscura gracias a giros argumentales que suceden sin piedad. Seo-Yeon descubre que su amiga telefónica está a punto de ser asesinada por su madre y le avisa rápidamente por teléfono, a partir de allí los cambios son bruscos y Young-sook después de matar a su madre se convierte en una persona despiadada.
Estamos hablando de una chica que tiene graves problemas mentales y que fueron liberados con la muerte de su madre, haciéndola sentir viva y con poder. Pronto hará de las suyas y este personaje se convertirá en un psicópata que no tiene ningún juicio de empatía. En una parte de la película se puede apreciar que esta chica sufre de Trastorno Límite de la Personalidad lo que la lleva a exaltarse de una manera brutal.
Jeon Jong-seo's performance struck me as neat, brutal, and very well executed. The malevolent laughs, the mood swings and the quick exasperation of the character were done perfectly by this girl, I was able to easily get into the role of both because they did an excellent job.
The soundtrack helps a lot to make our hair stand on end as well but the best thing achieved was the temporal context since it is never easy to play with an argument that has different timelines and in this case it is achieved perfectly, showing us images of the consequences that they supply by affecting the past and the immediate results of the future (or the present of each one).
The mix between science fiction and horror has many good results and even more when there are different timelines. On the one hand we can focus on how to play with the timelines without apparent flaws or plot holes and on the other hand we can appreciate authentic massacres and scenes loaded with absolute terror.
La actuación de Jeon Jong-seo me pareció pulcra, brutal y muy bien ejecutada. Las risas malévolas, los cambios de humor y la rápida exasperación del personaje fueron hechos a la perfección por esta chica, pude meterme en el papel de ambas fácilmente porque hicieron un excelente trabajo.
La banda sonora ayuda muchísimo a ponernos los pelos de punta también pero lo mejor logrado fue el contexto temporal ya que nunca es fácil jugar con un argumento que tiene distintas líneas de tiempo y en este caso se logra a la perfección, mostrándonos imágenes de las consecuencias que surten al afectar el pasado y los resultados inmediatos del futuro (o del presente de cada quien).
La mezcla entre ciencia ficción y terror tiene muchos resultados buenos y aún más cuando hay líneas temporales distintas. Por un lado podemos enfocarnos en cómo se juega con las líneas del tiempo sin aparentes fallas o huecos argumentales y por otro lado podremos apreciar auténticas masacres y escenas cargadas de un terror absoluto.
This is definitely not another cheap Netflix movie released just to muddle through and rack up more titles but rather a well thought out and well executed movie. It is true that many of us have seen titles with a similar premise before but what is important sometimes is the neatness with which the scripts are executed without falling into a disaster and this movie more than succeeded. In this case it is not a television, it is not a car but a telephone but it does not take away any merits, on the contrary, the tension between calls can be a decisive factor in creating a wave of terror, screams, laments and other things they can do to us. feel a slight panic while we are spectators of genuine terrifying scenes.
The telephone is one of the most recent crossings that I have seen of science fiction and terror, one of the best that I have seen together with Sputnik, both with different ways of creating horror based on science fiction, they manage to enter a world that little by little is it is becoming chaotic and of which we as spectators will be part of it.
Without a doubt I am going to give more opportunities to Korean films, it is not the first or the best film I have seen from that country (that is a title that Oldboy could easily carry) but it is a fresh production and with a real interest in producing good stuff. It will certainly not leave you indifferent and it is worth giving it a try. Soon you will see me reviewing more films from this country that I see increasingly better quality in their feature films.
Esta definitivamente no es otra película barata de Netflix que se lanza solo por salir del paso y acumular más títulos sino más bien es una película bien pensada y ejecutada. Es cierto que muchos de nosotros hemos visto títulos con una premisa similar anteriormente pero lo importante a veces es la pulcritud con que se ejecutan los guiones sin caer en un desastre y esta película lo logro con creces. En este caso no es un televisor, no es un carro sino un teléfono pero no le quita ningún merito, muy por el contrario la tensión entre llamadas puede ser un factor decisivo para crearnos una oleada de terror, gritos, lamentos y demás cosas pueden hacernos sentir un leve pánico mientras somos espectadores de genuinas escenas terroríficas.
El teléfono es de los más recientes cruces que he visto de ciencia ficción y terror una de las mejores que he visto junto con Sputnik, ambas con distintas maneras de crear terror a base de ciencia ficción, logran adentrarnos en un mundo que poco a poco se va volviendo caótico y de los cuales nosotros como espectadores seremos parte de él.
Sin duda alguna voy a darle más oportunidades a películas coreanas, no es la primera ni mejor película que he visto de ese país (ese es un título que fácilmente se pudiese llevar Oldboy) pero si es una producción fresca y con un verdadero interés en producir un buen material. Sin duda no los dejara indiferentes y vale la pena darle una oportunidad. Pronto me verán reseñando más películas de este país que cada vez veo mejor calidad en sus largometrajes.
La paradoja del tiempo es de esos secretos que esconde el universo, que sin lugar a duda puede llamar la atención hasta del más escéptico y si no tenemos cuidado nos puede volar la cabeza intentar entender todo lo que rodea al tiempo.
Desde hace tiempo he querido ver esta película que pinta muy diferente a la mayoría que he visto en los últimos meses, trato de no darle importancia a los trailers que ya de por sí me confunden o me muestran lo que no debo ver, pero como soy un pecador siempre caigo en los encantos de los trailers para tener una idea de lo que veré.

Obviamente me llamo mucho la atención y nuevamente fui engañado, pero esta vez creo que el engaño valió la pena, ya que te puedes sumergir desde el minuto 5 en adelante, tomando con mucho cuidado cada escena presentada y teniendo presente que no verás una película con el sueño de Hollywood, creo que no verás algo parecido bajo ese sello.
Las películas producidas y realizadas por actores, guionistas, productores de nacionalidad Sur Coreana están dando mucho de que hablar por su buen contenido y porque apuestan en grande trayendo películas que rompen todos los esquemas desde su fotografía hasta el desarrollo de una historia no cantada antes que puede impactar de manera orgánica y positiva sobre cada Cinéfilo del mundo.

No halago el cine Sur Coreano solo por moda y es que definitivamente tienen una gran catálogo de películas que deben ver sin ninguna preocupación y una de ellas y la recomiendo mucho es A Hard Day, con giros inesperados y una trama que no se anda por las ramas.
Por lo cual veo interesante seguir consumiendo películas de Asia Oriental que te dejará un muy buen sabor de boca y lo mismo podremos recibir de la película EL TELÉFONO que nos introduce rápidamente en una niebla confusa, pero que de a poco se va aclarando dejando pequeñas migajas que tomaremos de inicio a final.

🇺🇸 I don't flatter South Korean cinema just for fashion and they definitely have a great catalog of movies that you should see without any concern and one of them and I highly recommend it is A Hard Day, with unexpected twists and a plot that doesn't beat around the bush.

Conoceremos a la joven Seo-yeon (Park Shin-hye) quién irá a visitar a su madre enferma, durante su viaje pierde su celular lo cual genera que tenga que llamar desde un viejo teléfono a su número para intentar recuperar su móvil. Pero no corre con suerte y surge algo totalmente inesperado que hará volar su cabeza.
Recibe una llamada de una mujer que pide ayuda desesperadamente la cual le avisa que está siendo torturada por su madre y cree que la quieren matar. Pero no logra conectar con esta chica pensando que le están jugando una broma de mal gusto. Todo sucede rápidamente y logra encontrar en la casa unas fotos de la mujer que se dice llamar Oh Young-sook (Jeon Jong-seo) quién aparentemente vivió en la misma casa.

We meet young Seo-yeon (Park Shin-hye) who goes to visit her sick mother, during her trip she loses her cell phone which causes her to call from an old phone to her number to try to get her cell phone back. But he has no luck and something totally unexpected comes up that will blow his mind.
He receives a call from a woman desperately asking for help who warns him that she is being tortured by her mother and believes that they want to kill her. But he fails to connect with this girl thinking that they are playing a bad joke. Hasta este momento todo parece muy normal, pero las cosas se ponen interesantes y confusas cuando se entera Seo-yeon que esa misteriosa mujer afirma que vive actualmente en la misma casa, pero con 20 años de diferencia a su tiempo actual. Para ambas chicas todo es confuso y buscan la forma de saber si lo que dice cada una es verdad.
Esto de alguna forma las une pero por poco tiempo ya que están sujetas a eso que llamamos Paradoja del Tiempo y cada cosa que hagan cambiará la vida de cada una de ellas. Llevándolas por un ca sin retorno donde la vida y la muerte juegan un papel importante.
La trama se desarrolla en torno a estas dos jóvenes que intentan resolver lo que está ocurriendo y salvar la vida de Oh Young-sook quién es maltratada por su madre. Podemos entender hasta este punto que existe un salto notorio de tiempo y que el teléfono es el medio por el cual se pueden conectar.

La película te presentará giros inesperados que no los verás llegar hasta el último momento, esto es algo que el director (Lee Chung-hyeon) sabe usar a su favor para mantenerte interesado en la película hasta el final. Su ambientación es oscura y constantemente nos muestran tomas cerradas que nos permiten observar la tensión y suspenso en sus personajes.
No es una película de horror y no pretende serlo en ningún momento es más de esas películas que juegan con lo poco probable y se desarrollan muy bien dentro de lo que desean tramitar o compartir con el espectador.
INTERESANTE PROPUESTA
No tenía idea que la película tomaría está dirección y mucho menos que supieran jugar con la Paradoja del Tiempo, si no sabes de qué trata te invito a que lo busques en Google, ya que será de gran importancia para que entiendas la esencia de la película. Obviamente está película está muy lejos de pertenecer al género de ciencia ficción, pondríamos decir que es una película de suspenso y ficción.

I had no idea that the film would take this direction and much less that they knew how to play with the Time Paradox, if you do not know what it is about I invite you to Google it, as it will be of great importance for you to understand the essence of the film. Obviously this film is far from belonging to the science fiction genre, we would say that it is a thriller and fiction film.
Esto quizás te saque un poco de ritmo, pero como te dije al inicio de este post las películas Sur Coreanas están apuntando muy alto y no tienen miedo a jugar un poco con cualquier género cinematográfico que exista en la actualidad y mezclar un poco de ellos para entregar algo totalmente diferente a lo que estamos acostumbrados.
Debes estar mentalizado en que lo que verás puede parecer un poco sacado de la manga, pero quiero darte un pequeño dato y es que la película te gustara sin importar lo poco lógica que pueda parecer. El final es tan fácil de digerir que tendrás la oportunidad de pasar la página y quedar con un buen sabor de boca.
Claro esa fue la sensación que me dejó a mí en lo personal.

GIROS INESPERADOS
Algo que se puede destacar de esta película es la manera en como cada escena sirve para introducirnos en situaciones totalmente distintas que juegan un. Papel importante dentro de la trama que si no estás atento y quitas la mirada por unos minutos de la pantalla puedes perder el hilo que lleva la película.
Yo en par de oportunidades tuve que atender a mi hijo y eso me sacaba de la historia por lo cual tenía que repetir las escenas para enganchar nuevamente con la trama. It is a dark psychological thriller since there are some cruel attitudes and a bit of sadism but it doesn't have gore or excessive blood. The paranormal part of the film is limited to just the fact the call is possible, there is no other unexplainable stuff apart from this.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers then The Call is a must-watch film in my opinion. It can make the viewer feel the same impotence that some of the characters portrayed throughout the movie, it does a good job keeping you interested, and a few twists in the end.
