"Faces we see hearts we do not know" I remember many times when my mother told me this before going to school or high school, and is that far from being an overprotective mother she knew that I should be careful because in the world there are people who seem to be good, but in reality they are worse than the devil, because their intentions are so bad that it would be scary to know what is in the heart of each of them. And throughout my life I have remembered that and somehow I have been able to stay out of danger and stay away from people who emit something evil and you know they can hurt you, thanks to that so far in my 25 years nothing bad has happened to me.
But that is a reality that not everyone lives, since a dangerous situation varies greatly from one country to another, for example, if I were in Haiti right now I would be in danger just for going out in the street, because of the constant riots and the gang war against the police nobody can go out in the street, but what would happen if I were in the United States? Well, I would not be so sure, since according to studies it is more likely to die from a gunshot in the U.S. than from a snake or shark bite, or as in other cases that some psychopath kidnaps you and murders you. And that is what The Call is about, an amazing and shocking thriller movie released in 2013 and although it lasts 94 minutes, it is so shocking that you will never forget it and you will always be alert to danger, In The Call we can see in detail the great trauma that lives a blonde girl who is kidnapped by a psychopath and where an emergency operator tries to help, although this may mean risking her life. So let's talk a little bit about the plot and my opinion about this movie.
"Caras vemos corazones no sabemos" Recuerdo muchas veces cuando mi madre me decía esto antes de ir a la escuela o al liceo, y es que lejos de ser una mama sobreprotectora ella sabía que yo debía tener cuidado ya que en el mundo hay personas que parecen ser buenas, pero en realidad son peores que el diablo, ya que sus intenciones son tan malas que asustaría conocer lo que hay en el corazón de cada uno de ellos. Y a lo largo de mi vida he recordado eso y de alguna manera he podido estar a raya del peligro y mantenerme alejado de personas que emiten algo maligno y que sabes que te pueden hacer daño, gracias a eso hasta ahora en mis 25 años nada malo me ha pasado.
Pero eso es una realidad que no todos viven, ya que una situación de peligro varía mucho de un país a otro, por ejemplo, si estuviera en Haití ahora mismo pues estaría en peligro nada más por salir a la calle, ya que por los constantes disturbios y la guerra de pandillas contra la policía nadie puede salí a la calle, ¿pero ¿qué pasaría si estuviera en los estados unidos? Pues que tampoco estaría tan seguro, ya que segun estudios es más probable que mueras de un disparo en EEUU que por una mordida de serpiente o tiburón, o como en otros casos que algún psicópata te secuestre y te asesine. Y de eso es lo que trata The Call, una asombrosa e impactante película del género thriller lanzada en el 2013 y aunque dura 94 minutos, es tan impactante que nunca la olvidaras y siempre estarás alerta ante el peligro, En The Call podemos ver a detalle el gran trauma que vive una chica rubia que es secuestrada por un psicópata y donde una operadora de emergencias trata de ayudar, aunque esto pueda significar arriesgar su vida. Así que hablemos un poco de la trama y mi opinión sobre esta película.
The Call begins with emergency call operator Jordan Turner. On a routine day she receives a call from a teenager who is scared because a man broke into the house, Jordan gives her some indications to try to avoid this man and run away when she has the chance, but everything goes wrong and the man kidnaps the girl and then kills her, and a few days later the police find the girl's body abandoned. Jordan, upon seeing this, resigns from answering emergency calls because she feels very upset and does not feel able to continue doing that job. But some time later Jordan is working as a trainer of new emergency call operators, when during a class, one of the interns is called by a teenager who is kidnapped, Casey Welson who calls from a phone when she is stuffed in the trunk of a car. But the situation gets complicated when Jordan answers the call from Casey Welson and the kidnapper realizes it, then a series of events happen where innocent people die and Jordan enters many times in crisis because he does not want to repeat the situation of before, so he puts all his efforts to help Casey, but will Jordan manage to help her? or will he die trying? The Call comienza con la operadora de llamadas de emergencias Jordan Turner. Donde en un día de rutina recibe una llamada de una adolescente que se siente asustada porque un hombre entro a la casa, Jordan le da algunas indicaciones para tratar de evitar a este hombre y huir cuando tenga la oportunidad, pero todo sale mal y el hombre secuestra a la chica para luego matarla, y unos días después la policía encuentra al cuerpo de la chica abandonado. Jordan al ver esto renuncia a atender llamadas de emergencias ya que se siente muy alterada y no se siente capas de seguir realizando esa labor. Pero un tiempo después Jordan está trabajando como entrenadora de nuevos operadores de llamadas de emergencia, cuando durante una clase, a una de las pasantes la llama una adolescente que esta secuestrada, Casey Welson es quien llama de un teléfono cuando está metida en el baúl de un carro. Pero la situación se complica cuando Jordan atiende la llamada de Casey Welson y el secuestrador se da cuenta, allí pasan una serie de sucesos donde mueren personas inocentes y Jordan entra muchas veces en crisis porque no quiere que la situación de antes vuelva a repetirse, así que pone todo su empeño para ayudar a Casey, ¿pero lograra Jordan ayudarla? o Morirá en el intento? I want to say as I mentioned at the beginning of the review, that this film is extremely shocking, since the situation presented here is something that could happen to anyone, and seeing Casey with no way out in the trunk of a car trying everything to be rescued makes you reflect on what a person who is in that situation can feel. That without thinking about it one day she leaves her house and doesn't come back. That's why I mentioned the phrase "faces we see, but hearts we don't know", since we don't know the intentions that someone may have when they look at us on the street.
Quiero decir como mencione al principio de la reseña, que esta película es sumamente impactante, ya que la situación que presentan aquí es algo que le pudiera ocurrir a cualquiera, y el ver a Casey sin salida en una cajuela de un carro intentando de todo para que la rescaten te hace reflexionar en lo que puede sentir una persona que está en esa situación. Que sin pensarlo un día sale de su casa y no vuelve. Por eso mencionaba la frase cara vemos, pero corazones no sabemos, ya que no sabemos las intenciones que alguien pueda tener cuando nos mira en la calle.
In addition, Halle Berry's solid performance was splendid, as the intense emotions such as fear, anguish or despair manifested in an amazing way, and of course for this amazing work she was nominated for a BET award. And the same I can say about Abigail Breslin's performance, this girl is amazing since at no time her performance feels forced rather the fear is seen in her eyes, also when Jordan gives her instructions to be located the fear makes her hands tremble, but she manages to do what she is told, also when the kidnapper kills a man in front of her the tension rises even more showing much more fear. So this movie has the basic ingredients to be recommended, and these are solid performances, shocking plot and an epic ending because the ending is the most epic thing you will see :D
Además, la sólida actuación de Halle Berry fue esplendida, ya que las emociones intensas como el miedo, la angustia o la desesperación la manifiesta de un modo asombroso, y claro por este asombroso trabajo estuvo nominada a un premio BET. Y lo mismo puedo decir de la actuación de Abigail Breslin, esta chica es asombrosa ya que en ningún momento se siente forzada su actuación más bien el miedo se le ve en los ojos, además cuando Jordan le da instrucciones para que la localicen el miedo hace que le tiemblen las manos, pero logra hacer lo que le dicen, además cuando el secuestrador mata a un hombre frente a ella la tensión se eleva aún más mostrando mucho más miedo. Así que esta película cuenta con los ingredientes básicos para ser recomendada, y estos son actuaciones sólidas, trama impactante y un final épico porque el final es lo más épico que veras :D
Although I'm disappointed that it didn't receive significant awards, since I searched so much on the internet I didn't get anything and now it's a film that is almost forgotten. But for me it is a film comparable to Get Out or Don't Breathe where suspense and intrigue flood a wonderful plot. In fact, the box office success of The Call was so huge that they could have released a sequel, but so far nothing has been said about it and it seems that it is a story that was buried, although I would have loved a sequel.

Aunque si me decepciona que no recibiera premios significativos, ya que de tanto buscar en internet no conseguí nada y ahora mismo es una película que casi queda en el olvido. Pero para mi es una película comparable a Get Out o Don't Breathe donde el suspenso y la intriga inundan una maravillosa trama. De hecho, el éxito en taquilla de The Call fue enorme que pudieron haber lanzado una secuela, pero hasta ahora nada se ha dicho al respecto y parece que es una historia que quedó sepultada, aunque si me hubiera encantado que hubiera una continuación.
