As it is already a habit for me, at certain times I usually add to my list of movies to watch some that people recommend on social networks, my only drawback is that I always add more movies than I end up watching, but this has always helped me to always have such varied options and movies that perhaps on my own I would have never seen, so welcome dear friends of the community and lovers of cinema and television programs, today I want to talk about a Korean film that is called "The Call", let's start with the review.

This film released on November 27, 2020 is a South Korean production that belongs to the suspense genre and is based on a British-Puerto Rican film of 2011. In this film we will find a quite interesting and striking plot, we will follow the story of two women from different times that thanks to a phone that is in the same house end up having some connection through phone calls from the same phone, but with a difference of 20 years and this will end up affecting the fate of both women who try to help each other, something that somehow or another ends up generating different impacts.

What happens in the movie?

Let's talk a little bit about what happens inside the movie and this one starts with the scene of a girl named Seo-yeon in the year 2019 is walking with her suitcase and an acquaintance in his car stops to give her a ride, Seo-yeon lost her phone on her trip so she asks for hers from the acquaintance who drove her to her old house, the reason why Seo-yeon has come back is to visit her mother who is sick. Upon arriving at her parents' house (which is in very bad shape) Seo-yeon finds a rather old cordless phone, but she uses it to call her own phone to try to get it back, but the woman who found it wants some reward for returning it and assures her that she will call her again.

Minutes later the old phone rings and that's how Seo-yeon starts receiving some strange calls from a woman who claims to be being tortured by her mother, but this woman hangs up. Seo-yeon heads to the hospital and here they explain to her a bit about the situation her mother is in, here Seo-yeon talks a bit with her mother and a rather awkward conversation arises where they talk about Seo-yeon's mother's death, something that bothers Seo-yeon a bit and also in this conversation they both have we find out that Seo-yeon's father died 20 years ago.

Seo-yeon visits her father's grave and then returns home, when she arrives the old phone is ringing so she runs to answer it hoping it is the woman who has her phone, but when she picks up it is again the strange woman who claims that her mother wants to murder her, to which she gives her an address, but Seo-yeon assures her that she is calling the wrong person and so the strange woman hangs up. At night a strange noise wakes Seo-yeon up, when she goes to check she discovers that a painting has fallen off the wall, when she tries to arrange everything she discovers that there is something behind the wall so she breaks it and discovers a kind of entrance to a basement.

Seo-yeon goes downstairs to check the place and finds some kind of diary, he goes through it and finds some photographs and some writings. In the morning Seo-yeon tries to investigate about who the girl in the photograph is and comes to the conclusion that she is the same strange woman who calls him on the old phone and her name is Young-soo, she also thinks that they are both in the same house, only Young-soo in the year 1999. As strange as it may seem, the old phone allows both of them to communicate through time and give each other information about their lives, Seo-yeon tells her about her father and according to this information Young-sook tries to do something about it, although neither of them has any idea of the consequences it could cause.

My opinion about the movie

From here on I will only talk about my opinion about the movie so you can watch it on your own and enjoy it without any spoilers. Let's talk about the story, honestly I was quite surprised, because while reading what I wrote you can get an idea of what the film is about the truth is that this takes a quite different nuance at the beginning of the film and this is escalating exponentially and the more the story develops is when you enjoy it more, me personally I was caught from the beginning, but halfway through the film and I knew it was going to be excellent.

I wouldn't know if I would say that this movie has a pretty original story (although I mentioned that it's based on another movie, but I haven't seen it), although I'm sure I've seen maybe some other movie with a similar story of connecting with people through a phone, but honestly the way this is approached with the way things change according to the actions of the characters seemed amazing to me, clearly here it applies a concept of what happens in the past has repercussions in the future (or present depending on how you look at it) and this seemed great to me, because it is a story that is not about time travel, but how it affects decisions.

The theme of suspense in the film is escalating as the film progresses, at first this suspense is more curiosity about what has happened and what is happening with the calls, but as the story develops the suspense is becoming even terror without even touching that genre, but that's how strong is the suspense that is felt in many of the scenes that we will witness and also thanks to the acting of our protagonists without a doubt, the facial expressions make certain scenes feel flooded with pure suspense and this I would say that few films achieve it without the help of other elements.

My personal opinion is that it is an amazing movie, I am a lover of Korean stories because of how well constructed they are, plus many other elements that I think are great as the shots and compositions that usually do, plus in this film there are certain special effects that are also very well executed, for each of these things is that I enjoyed the movie, plus the story clearly, so if you are looking for a thriller with some incredible plot twists here is one of the most recommended without doubt.

Como ya es cierta costumbre para mí, en ciertos momentos suelo agregar a mí lista de películas para ver algunas que personas recomienden en redes sociales, mí único inconveniente es que siempre agrego más películas de las que termino viendo, pero esto siempre me ha ayudado a tener siempre opciones tan variadas y de películas que quizás por mí cuenta no hubiese visto nunca, por lo que sean bienvenidos queridos amigos de la comunidad y amantes del cine y los programas de televisión, el día de hoy quiero hablarles de una película coreana que lleva por nombre “El teléfono”, comencemos con la reseña.

Esta película estrenada el 27 de noviembre del año 2020 es una producción surcoreana que pertenece al género del suspenso y está basada en una película británica-puertorriqueña del año 2011. En esta película encontraremos una trama bastante interesante y llamativa, seguiremos la historia de dos mujeres de diferentes tiempos que gracias a un teléfono que se encuentra en la misma casa terminan teniendo cierta conexión a través de llamadas telefónicas desde un mismo teléfono, pero con una diferencia de 20 años y esto terminará afectando el destino de ambas mujeres que intentan ayudarse entre sí, cosa que de alguna manera u otra termina generando diferentes impactos.

¿Qué sucede en la película?

Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede dentro de la película y esta comienza con la escena de una chica llamada Seo-yeon en el año 2019 va caminando con su maleta y un conocido en su auto se detiene para llevarla, Seo-yeon perdió su teléfono en su viaje por lo que le pide el suyo al conocido que la llevó hasta su antigua casa, la razón por la que Seo-yeon ha regresado es para visitar a su madre quien se encuentra enferma. Al llegar a la casa de sus padres (la cual se encuentra en muy mal estado) Seo-yeon encuentra un teléfono inalámbrico bastante viejo, pero lo utiliza para llamar a su propio teléfono y así intentar recuperarlo, pero la mujer que lo encontró quiere alguna recompensa por devolvérselo y asegura que la volverá a llamar.

Minutos después el viejo teléfono suena y así es como Seo-yeon empieza a recibir algunas llamadas extrañas de una mujer que asegura estar siendo torturada por su madre, pero esta mujer cuelga. Seo-yeon se dirige al hospital y aquí le explican un poco la situación en la que se encuentra su madre, aquí Seo-yeon habla un poco con su madre y surge una conversación bastante incómoda donde se habla de la muerte de la madre de Seo-yeon, cosa que le molesta un poco a Seo-yeon y también en esta conversación que tienen ambas descubrimos que el padre de Seo-yeon murió hace 20 años.

Seo-yeon visita la tumba de su padre y luego regresa a casa, al llegar el viejo teléfono está sonando por lo que corre a atenderlo esperando que sea la mujer que tiene su teléfono, pero cuando atiende es de nuevo la extraña mujer que asegura que su madre quiere asesinarla, a lo que le da una dirección, pero Seo-yeon le asegura que está llamando a la persona equivocada y así la extraña mujer cuelga. Por la noche un extraño ruido despierta a Seo-yeon, cuando va a revisar descubre que un cuadro se ha caído de la pared, al intentar acomodar todo descubre que hay algo detrás de la pared por lo que la revienta y descubre una especie de entrada a un sótano.

Seo-yeon baja para revisar el lugar y encuentra una especie de diario, lo revisa y encuentra algunas fotografías y algunos escritos. Por la mañana Seo-yeon intenta investigar sobre quién es la chica de la fotografía y llega a la conclusión de que es la misma extraña mujer que le llama al viejo teléfono y su nombre es Young-soo, además de pensar que ambas se encuentran en la misma casa, sólo que Young-soo en el año 1999. Por más extraño que parezca el viejo teléfono permite que ambas puedan comunicarse a través del tiempo y darse información sobre sus vidas, Seo-yeon le cuenta sobre su padre y según esta información Young-sook intenta hacer algo al respecto, aunque ninguna de las dos tiene idea de las consecuencias que podría ocasionar.

Mí opinión sobre la película

A partir de aquí hablaré sólo de mi opinión sobre la película para que puedan verla por su cuenta y disfrutarla sin ningún spoiler. Hablemos de la historia, honestamente me sorprendió bastante, porque si bien al leer lo que escribí pueden hacerse una idea de lo que trata la película la verdad es que esta toma un matiz bastante diferente al principio de la película y esto va escalando exponencialmente y mientras más se desarrolla la historia es cuando más se disfruta, a mí en lo personal me atrapó desde el principio, pero a mitad de la película ya sabía que iba a estar excelente.

No sabría si decir que esta película tiene una historia bastante original (aunque mencioné que está basada en otra película, pero no la he visto), aunque estoy seguro de haber visto quizás alguna otra película con una historia similar del conectar con personas a través de un teléfono, pero honestamente la manera en que se plantea esto con la manera en que las cosas cambian según las acciones de los personajes me pareció sorprendente, claramente aquí aplica un concepto de lo que ocurra en el pasado tiene repercusión en el futuro (o presente según como se vea) y esto me pareció genial, porque es una historia que no trata de viajes en el tiempo, pero sí el cómo afectan las decisiones.

El tema del suspenso en la película va escalando según avanza la película, al principio este suspenso es más curiosidad por lo que ha sucedido y lo que está sucediendo con las llamadas, pero a medida que se desarrolla la historia el suspenso se va convirtiendo hasta en terror sin siquiera tocar ese género, pero así de fuerte es el suspenso que se siente en muchas de las escenas que presenciaremos y también gracias a la actuación de nuestras protagonistas sin duda, las expresiones faciales hacen que ciertas escenas se sientan inundadas de suspenso puro y esto diría que pocas películas lo logran sin ayuda de otros elementos.

Mí opinión personal es que es una película increíble, yo soy un amante de las historias coreanas por lo bien construida que están, además de muchos otros elementos que me parecen estupendos como las tomas y las composiciones que suelen hacer, además en esta película hay ciertos efectos especiales que también están muy bien ejecutados, por cada una de estas cosas es que disfruté mucho con la película, además de la historia claramente, por lo que si están buscando alguna película de suspenso con unos giros argumentales increíbles aquí tienen una de las que más recomendaría sin dudas.
