It has been a good while since the last time I saw a Spanish comedy, I think the last memorable one I saw was Toc Toc. Unfortunate Stories is a movie with 4 short stories that happen in the same city and are slightly related to each other. As the name implies, the stories have a lot of misfortune and tragic events for the people involved and are a perfect example of black comedy done right.
There are a lot of twists and surprises, with a bunch of moments that will make most people laugh. I don't even remember the last time I saw a good black comedy film so this was a great surprise to see Amazon releasing this flick. I didn't know anything about this production until it released.

The film begins with the story of an adult man who is the son of a very successful man. It is the old man's birthday and he is retiring so there is a big party and the son has a nice surprise for his dad. The old man, however, is known for being grumpy.
The next story is about a very meticulous man who just wants to go to the beach in front of his hotel and enjoy the sunrise. However, new events constantly happen time and time again that will make this apparently easy morning plan an impossible one.

Next, we have the story of a lonely woman in her 40s or 50s who is almost always in a very bad mood and tends to take advantage of everyone who gets near her, and then she meets an innocent and gentle African immigrant with a pure heart who works as a gardener. Both of their lives will change forever.
The last story is about a crazy company called "The Excuse" that create fake and believable stories for its clients so they can get away with their lies. They are extremely talented and can forge anything required to make a lie seems like truth.
The 4 stories are related but they can also work as independent stories. They all use a good dose of black comedy and even though some of the characters might be despiteful the situations will be funny for the most part. If you enjoy the comedy genre, especially black comedy then you should certainly watch this film.
