La storia mi ha sempre appassionato un sacco, soprattutto quella antica e meglio ancora se su pellicola. Il tema di cui voglio parlarvi in questo post come avrete potuto intuire dal titolo sono i Vichinghi che nell'immaginario comune sono dipinti come dei grezzoni nordici dai capelli lunghi con elmetti, corna ed asce giganti facilmente irascibili che amano razziare le terre da loro conquistate scannando chiunque gli si opponesse. A parte le questioni di elmetti ed asce giganti tutto il resto dovrebbe essere vero, anche se gli studi della storia antica e non solo sono in continua evoluzione e sia mai che in futuro non scopriremo in modo più dettagliato la vita dei nostri predecessori su questa terra anche se la certezza totale sarà sempre molto difficile ottenerla. Non sono comunque qui per tenere un corso di storia, anzi, penso di essere una delle persone meno indicate, il fatto che mi documenti sulla storia solo dopo avere visto film e/o serie Tv credo la dica lunga sulla mia preparazione a riguardo, materia che mi ha sempre affascinato ma soltanto riguardo alcune epoche ben precise come quella dei Vichinghi appunto.
Torniamo dunque alla serie TV che da quanto ho potuto apprendere informandomi sul web è abbastanza fedele storicamente sui fatti accaduti ma parecchio romanzata, il che ci sta, dato l'importanza di tenere incollato lo spettatore allo schermo nel mondo cinematografico è fondamentale. Per l'occasione è stato scelto some protagonista principale un guerriero leggendario dal nome di "Ragnar Lothbrok", giovane fattore che durante l'estate saccheggia paesi stranieri.
Serie canadese in onda su History Channel, propone un mix tra guerra, misticismo e romanticismo, quest'ultimo del tutto particolare, d'altronde non è sicuramente l'amore il tema principale del tema in questione, eppure vi si possono trovare molti messaggi che lo contengono sotto forme davvero peculiari grazie anche ad uno scrittore davvero talentuoso come "Michael Hirst", che forse conoscerete per il film vincitore del premio Oscar per i migliori costumi nel 2008, nonché nomitation in parecchi riconoscimenti nell'ambito cinematografico con il film “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”.
La prima stagione si concentra sulle vicende di Ragnar e la sua volontà di voler esplorare nuovi mondi verso occidente andando contro il volere del Conte locale della cittadina di Kattegat che lo prende per uno stolto avendo paura dell'ignoto e cerca di sminuirlo in qualsiasi modo possibile. Il protagonista non è però uno sprovveduto ed ha dalla sua ingegno e amicizie che riescono a tornargli molto utili, come ad esempio quella di "Floki", folle artigiano che ridisegna le barche vichinghe riuscendo ad adattarle per lunghi viaggi e per qualsiasi tipo di acque navigabili, dai mari ai fiumi.
Ragnar con il passare del tempoo diventa ambizioso, dato che il Conte non ha fiducia nel suo intuito e lo ostacola, egli decide di nascosto di organizzare una spedizione assieme ad alcuni fedeli guerrieri ma le sue intenzioni vengono ben presto svelate e dovrà fronteggiarsi con il suo sovrano.
Vi si trovano alcuni personaggi davvero interessanti che vengono proposti in questa prima stagione, oltre i già citati Ragnar e Floki.
- Rollo: imponente fratello di Ragnar geloso della fama che accresce col passare del tempo attorno a quest'ultimo ed innamorato della moglie Lagherta.
- Re Aelle di Northumbria: classico stereotipo del sovrano pacciuto e non molto sveglio.
- Lagherta: affascinante donna guerriera moglie di Ragnar.
- Athelstan: prete cristiano che avrà il piacere di fare di assistere da vicino allo stile di vita dei Vichinghi.
- Conte Haraldson: antagonista di Ragnar.
- Siggy: moglie del Conte con particolari ambizioni.
- Conte Borg: che entrerà in scena verso fine stagione e diventerà un nuovo antagonista di Ragnar.
- Re Horik: sovrano della Danimarca che apprezza le idee e l'ingegno di Ragnar.
- L'indovino: figura terrorizzante che predice il futuro in cambio di una leccata di mano.
Tutta la prima serie gira attorno a Ragnar, personaggio dalle mille sfaccettature eccentrico e folle che si esibisce a volte con facce a volte davvero buffe. Guerriero e condottiero implacabile dal grande carisma interpretato alla grande da Travis Fimmel meglio conosciuto per il ruolo di Anduin Lothar nel film Warcraft del 2016.
Costruita in modo impeccabile, con costumi e scene del tutto realistici, questa serie sa coinvolgere e sconvolgere ma soprattutto appassionare nonostante la moltitudine di scene truci che si adattano comunque alla perfezione per il periodo storico trattato.

The story has always fascinated me a lot, especially the ancient one and better if on movies. The theme I want to talk about in this post as you could guess from the title are the Vikings which in the common imaginary are painted as long-haired northern rough with helmets, horns and giant axes, easily irascible who love to raid the lands they conquered by slaughtering whoever opposed him. Apart from the issues of helmets and giant axes everything else should be true, even if the studies of ancient history and not only are constantly evolving and never in the future we will not discover in more detail the life of our predecessors on this earth even if total certainty will always be very difficult to obtain. But I'm not here to hold a history course, in fact, I think I'm one of the less well-known people, the fact that I documented the story only after watching movies and/or TV series I think a long time about my preparation, History has always fascinated me but only regarding some very precise eras like that one of the Vikings.
So let's go back to the TV series that from what I could learn by reading me on the web is quite faithful historically about the events but a lot fictional, which is right considering the importance of keeping the viewer glued to the screen in the movie's world is essential. For the occasion they choose a legendary warrior named "Ragnar Lothbrok" as the main character, a young factor who, during the summer, plunded foreign countries.
Canadian series aired on the History Channel, proposes a mix between war, mysticism and a little bit of romanticism, even if love is not the main theme of the show, and yet there are many messages that they contain it in really peculiar ways thanks even to a really talented writer like "Michael Hirst", whom you may know for the candidate movie to win the Oscar for best costumes in 2008, as well as nomination in several movies events with "Elizabeth: The Golden Age ".
The first season focuses on Ragnar and his desire to explore new worlds to the west going against the will of the local Jarl of the town of Kattegat who takes him for a fool having fear of the unknown and tries to belittle it in any possible way. The main character, however, is not a naive and has from his wit and friendships that they can return very useful, such as that of "Floki" crazy artisan who redraws the Viking boats being able to adapt for long trips and any type of water, from seas to rivers.
During the time, Ragnar becomes ambitious, since the Jarl does not trust his intuition and prevent him, he secretly decides to organize an expedition together with some faithful warriors, but his intentions are soon unveiled and he will have to confront himself with his sovereign.
There are some really interesting characters that are proposed in this first season, in addition to Ragnar and Floki.
- Rollo: the really big brother of Ragnar, jealous of fame that grows with the passing of time around the latter and is in love with his wife Lagherta.
- King Aelle of Northumbria: classic stereotype of the sovereign fat and not very smart.
- Lagherta: a charming woman warrior wife of Ragnar.
- Athelstan: a Christian priest who will have the pleasure of assisting closely with the Viking way of life.
- Jarl Haraldson: Ragnar's antagonist.
- Siggy: wife of the Count with particular ambitions.
- Jarl Borg: who will enter the scene towards the end of the season and will become a new Ragnar antagonist.
- King Horik: sovereign of Denmark who appreciates Ragnar's ideas and intelligence.
- The seer: a terrifying figure who predicts the future in exchange for a lick of a hand.
The entire first series revolves around Ragnar, an eccentric and crazy multi-faceted character who sometimes performs sometimes with really funny faces. Warrior and relentless leader of the great charme played in a great way by Travis Fimmel well known for the role of Anduin Lothar of the miovie Warcraft of 2016.
Impeccably builted, with costumes and scenes that are completely realistic, this series knows how to involve and upset but above all to thrill in spite of the multitude of cruel scenes that still fit perfectly for the historical period treated.
