Sci-fi movies leave one with a world of imagination, providing our minds with some fictional planet to imagine beyond what we see. I could already think of a world with a world authority as machines which governed the affairs of men as I watched the movie confinement. One thing I love about sci-fi is that ability to open our minds to reality, what could possibly happen and the solutions that could be provided. Darwin had survived an exploration that brought about a chemical welfare which dried up lakes and rivers, the fear of going outside to inhale what was believed to be poisoned air kept him in confinement. He couldn't speak but was good with computers, so his mum locked him up and provided him a game to play, that was the only place (in the game) where he could see the world from.
The movie must have spoken about how we confined our minds instead of the lock doors that Darwin was in. I learned from the game Darwin played how we are controlled by what we call the world authority, they threaten one with the word "replacement" in order to confine us to their bidding. But just like every event, there are times when something pushes us out of the comfort zone, we feel like dying but later we realize we are living. The world authority made use of drones to trace their victims, they could track one's movement and threaten to make you feel like living in confinement is the only way to survive.
That's Darwin in his Confinement, where he can't speak, he only play games and talk to his mum who left him after the bomb exploded. At this point everyone will feel like this is the best life for him, Darwin did not think so until he was pushed by circumstances outside his so-called comfort and alive zone.
The scene I love most was when Steven could read Darwin's programmed mind as he assumed to be typing on a table. No keyboard, no computers, but seems to know where keyboards are placed as he assumes to be typing on a table and Steven could read it. Isn't that amazing? I just felt some people are gifted, it's rare but we are all different with different abilities. It was this ability of Steven that helped him communicate with Dera's family and gradually began to regain the voice he lost.
Darwin and Dera's connection was strong. I don't specifically like the performance of dera, kind of childish at some point with the much laughter at Darwin trying to speak once again. I almost asked why people could keep laughing at silly things. Their performance wasn't too impressive, but the fact that the movie challenged one's faith made it more interesting to me.
At last Darwin chose to break the law, realized there was no poison outside and the world authority only used fear to keep them in confinement, yes, some never got out of that confinement but some few others did, they realized the threat wasn't true, they wanted their mind to accept the lies until it look like reality to them. Let's say the movie was all about breaking protocols leaving behind a lot to learn.
