Hola amigos || Hello friends
Como he dicho en anteriores oportunidades, hay películas que quedan en el recuerdo y otras, simplemente es preferible no ver. Creo que vi algunas publicaciones acá de esta película pero sinceramente no quise leer para poder llegar sin expectativas a la película. Ayer por la noche fue un buen momento para darle play a esta película y terminar con la intriga y terminar de ver la película que tiene revuelto a medio mundo empezando por mi esposa la cual me insistía mucho en ver Backrooms. Y bueno, la verdad es que tengo mucho y poco que decir de esta nueva producción
As I’ve said before, there are movies that stick with you, and others that are simply better left unwatched. I think I saw a few posts here about this movie, but honestly, I didn’t want to read them so I could go into it without any expectations. Last night was a good time to hit play on this movie, put an end to the intrigue, and finally finish watching the film that’s got half the world buzzing starting with my wife, who kept insisting I watch Backrooms. Well, the truth is, I have both a lot and very little to say about this new production.
Backrooms prometía una experiencia tensa con la habitual sensación de angustia, de asfixia y de terror lo que, a mi parecer, falló en todos sus aspectos. Nunca tuve ninguna de esas sensaciones y mi acompañante mucho menos. Es cierto que muchas nuevas producciones van dirigido al terror indie y luego del gran éxito de Obsession que superó muchas expectativas dejando una nueva sensación de terror lo que para mí ha sido una de las mejores películas que he visto en este 2026 de terror pero esa tendencia de extensiones cinematográficas populares de Youtube considero que de dieron duro en el dedo pequeño del pies. Pues Backrooms no le llega ni al talón a Obsession.
Backrooms promised a tense experience with the usual sense of anxiety, suffocation, and terror which, in my opinion, fell short in every way. I never felt any of those sensations, and my companion certainly didn’t either. It’s true that many new productions are geared toward indie horror, and after the huge success of Obsession which exceeded many expectations and left a fresh sense of terror, making it, for me, one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in 2026 I believe that trend of popular YouTube-to-film adaptations really missed the mark. After all, Backrooms doesn’t even come close to Obsession.
Para ambas producciones sus directores no cumplen ni los 20 años y no quiero decir que la edad sea impedimento para crear obras extraordinarias pues lo vimos en Obsession pero hay algo que me llama mucho la atención, y el cual de seguro seria un tema muy interesante a debatir pero es como cuando mi papá me respondió cuando le dije que quería formar una banda de rock ¨Que sabes de su historia¨ esa fue la respuesta de mi papá sobre crear una banda de rock y en este caso, muchachos de 20 años incursionando en el cine de terror. Me mata la curiosidad de como forjaron ese gusto cinematográfico con lo que de seguro deben tener a su corta edad, el desconocimiento del primer siglo de historia del cine de terror.
In both productions, the directors aren’t even 20 years old, and I don’t mean to say that age is an obstacle to creating extraordinary works as we saw in Obsession but there’s something that really catches my attention, and it would certainly be a very interesting topic for discussion. It’s like when my dad responded to me after I told him I wanted to start a rock band: “What do you know about its history?” That was my dad’s reaction to the idea of starting a rock band—and in this case, it’s 20-year-olds venturing into horror cinema. I’m dying to know how they developed that cinematic taste given what they surely lack at such a young age: knowledge of the first century of horror film history.
En fin, y creo que lo han notado por mi tono sarcástico sobre Backrooms, para mí es una película muy mala, aun cuando en diseño fotográfico tiene imágenes muy buenas, perfecto color en la producción pero una historia totalmente vacía, casi que improvisada para el momento. Como fanático de este género no considero esta producción para generar tanto escándalo en las redes por lo bueno que era, a mí me engañaron. Tanto que al final solo quedamos nuevamente mi esposa y yo viéndonos a los rostros y preguntando ¿Eso es todo? ¿Qué paso? ¿No puede ser? En lo que respondí, perdimos una hora y cincuenta minutos de dormir ja ja ja…. Ahí se las dejo.
Anyway, and I think you’ve noticed from my sarcastic tone about Backrooms, I think it’s a really bad movie even though the cinematography features some great shots and the color grading is spot-on, the story is completely empty, almost as if it were improvised on the spot. As a fan of this genre, I don’t think this production deserves all the hype on social media about how great it was I was totally fooled. So much so that in the end, it was just my wife and me again, looking at each other and asking, “Is that it? What happened? No way!” By the time I answered, we’d wasted an hour and fifty minutes of sleep, ha ha ha… I’ll leave you with that.
