Hola amigos || Hello friends
There are movies that, as I’ve said in previous reviews, stay with us forever. Today, we show some of them to our children as a way of passing our classics on to a new generation. Before my son had to emigrate due to the turmoil in our country, we used to watch movies together, play Xbox, race toy cars, and sometimes play soccer. And of course, remembering all of this and having gone more than eight years without being able to give him a hug it breaks my heart. It wasn’t an easy decision for me to accept that it would be so hard to see him again, but I talk to him and I know he’s doing well; where he is today, he’s receiving a much better education than he would have here.

One of the many movies we got to enjoy together was the great ’90s animated classic, The Iron Giant. My son was about 6 years old when he first saw this movie, and well, you could say it was exactly what we’d put on to keep Jesús Eduardo calm for a while so he’d let us do other things around the house. My son was mesmerized by the movie and really connected with the characters especially Hogarth, a 9-year-old boy who goes on one of the greatest adventures of his life.

Today I watched it again, but this time with Luna. It was almost the same experience she didn’t ask any questions; she was just there, paying attention to every detail. That’s why I have no doubt that this movie captivates children with the excitement and wonder of the giant robot, but deeply moves adults with its themes of empathy, identity, and free will.

It’s only natural that watching this movie fills us with nostalgia, because the truth is, it’s an excellent film. It’s the kind of movie that, as a parent, makes me cheer for productions like this. The Iron Giant teaches us that fear of the unknown is often the real threat, but above all, the film leaves us with a timeless lesson about identity and free will. It’s fascinating to see that even a machine designed for destruction is capable of choosing compassion when touched by a child’s innocence and love. It reminds us that, at the end of the day, no matter how heavy our armor may be or how dark our day may seem, we are the ones who decide who we are and what we will become. This is undoubtedly another great movie to watch with your child at home.
I imagine a lot of you have seen it, so, well, as always, this is just my opinion, and I invite you to share yours.
