There are things that can change your life without asking for it, that even if you don't want it, you may have to accept it, deal with it and move on. This is the case of Boby Hollerman, a father who finds it hard to accept that his son is different and would like him to be like one of the young men he trains. Body is played by Rory Cochrane, whom I've seen before on CSI Miami.
Tyson Hollerman is a teenager on the autistic spectrum, with Asperger's syndrome, which makes him have a different condition and throughout his life he has been at home, under the care and teachings of his mother Eloise Hollerman, who is played by Ammy Smart, who I haven't seen on stage since Invasion and Butterfly Effect, the latter a film that I didn't like at all.
As Aklilu, a young athlete, says in the film: "A mother's heart is in her hands, while a father's heart is in his chest, to fill it with pride". That is why Eloise always wants to believe that her son can achieve more and fills him with love and understanding, while Boby wants him to be different so that he can become a champion.
Coach Hollerman (Boby) finds it hard to maintain a loving bond with his son, his son knows it, he notices it even in the midst of his condition and he will be faced with the tough decision of choosing between, getting state with his football team or supporting his family and showing his son that he is proud of him.
I started watching this film after a short tiktok video my sister @rakel1406 shared with me after I shared some pictures of my second daughter Amelie, who is also on the autistic spectrum, but in her case with Kanner Syndrome due to her speech deficit. I was eager to see more and looked up the film, as it was getting close to the time for us to go to her therapy.
"Tyson's Run", made another miracle happen in my house, because when I am watching the film a few minutes later, a beautiful companion who rarely sits down and doesn't sit down for more than a few seconds, sat next to me very quietly and concentrated to watch the film, yes, it is my daughter Amelie. I don't know what she saw that kept her so concentrated watching this film.
For me it was very impressive to see Amelie sitting there, her eyes fixed on my phone screen, she didn't blink very often, she was watching intently, which is rare for her condition. I think these children on the autistic spectrum are attracted to each other or have something that makes them identify with each other.
When we had to leave for her therapy, we had to cut the film in the middle and she just got anxious, she didn't want to stop watching it, I promised myself to finish it when I got back and she was thrilled to see Tyson run the race of his miracle, but in this second part, it took me a while to get Amelie interested in the film again.
Having a child with autism, which I like to clarify, is not a disease, but a condition that makes them different, we must change many things in our lives and sometimes make important decisions as in the case of the Hollermans, becoming as parents to be able to give up our tastes, dreams and to do so many things for the welfare of those we love the most, our children.
Tyson wanted his dad to see him, to be proud of him and even though his dad thought Tyson didn't see him, just because an autistic child doesn't look you in the eye, doesn't mean he doesn't know you are there. It was important for him to show his dad that he could be a champion like the boys on his team and that he could trust him.
As parents we must support our children, but when we have a child with different conditions or a disability, it is important to let them know that for us as parents that child is as valuable as any other, and although there will indeed be some limitations, we can show them that miracles exist and that if the family is united, they will also be able to run the race called life.
