Introducción
No soy fan del cine de la India, pero he dedicado tiempo en ver dos películas y me encantó, la primera fue “Dangal” y ahora “Gangubai Kathiawadi” para mi modo de ver una película bien ejecutada, aunque tiene sus críticas debido a que la protagonista principal es muy joven para interpretar el papel, ya que está basada en la biografía de un personaje muy importante para la India escrito en el libro “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”. Otro aspecto a considerar es que la película es producida por la industria cinematográfica Bollywood por ende se encuentra en su idioma original (hindi).
Sinopsis
La película de Gangubai trata de una joven que viene de una familia muy honorable y que su sueño era convertirse en actriz de cine. De pronto se fuga con su novio a los 16 años, para ser vendida en un burdel de las calles de Kamati a una madame por solo 500 rupias.
La narrativa de esta película cuenta el viaje que tiene que pasar Ganga para convertirse en Gangubai, en una madame y en una figura femenina fuertemente reconocida. Además, tiene aspiraciones políticas para mejorar las condiciones de las mujeres que trabajan en kamatipura y logra hacerse amiga de personas influyentes que le ayudarán a defender los derechos de las prostitutas para que sean reconocidas como todas las profesiones normalmente vistas como dignas.
¿Por qué ver la película?
Después de haberla visto en Nteflix con una duración de 2 horas con 30 minutos, puedo decir que es una película realmente buena y vale la pena aunque sea subtitulada. Siento que la actriz principal representa a las mujeres que somos inocentes y nos enamoramos del primer hombre que dice “amarnos”, sin tener idea de cuáles son sus verdaderas intenciones.
En la película se observa que a Gangubai y a otras mujeres les ha tocado pasar por momentos duros, como por ejemplo ser vendidas a un burdel ¿Quién puede imaginar que su esposo o novio haría eso? Algo común en aquellas décadas atrás, por ello también entiendo que la discriminación debió ser aterrador para las trabajadoras sexuales en donde poco o nada importaba que se respeten sus derechos.
Hay una escena que Gangubai dice “Quién me amaba vendió mi cuerpo y mis sueños” Esto me causo mucha tristeza y puede entender que la confianza de volver a ser feliz podría desaparecer de por vida, es aceptable no volver a creer en los hombres. Sin embargo, el haber conocido el dolor hizo que Gangubai dejara de pensar en sí misma y se preocupará por mujeres que padecieron los mismos actos atroces que ella. También la protagonista forma un carácter intrépido, capaz de enfrentarse a cualquier situación que le impida seguir con el anhelo de que las prostitutas dejen de ser marginadas por la sociedad.
Otro punto que me llamó mucho la atención, fueron las escenas que demostraron por qué está mal juzgar y muchos podrían no estar de acuerdo con esto; pero también los hombres necesitan satisfacer su lujuria y por el otro lado las mujeres protegen su integridad. Un aspecto que es duro decirlo, pero este tipo de trabajo ha evitado violaciones y destruirse hogares, por ende lo más justo es que sea respetado como lo son las demás profesiones.
Con respecto a los detalles de puesta en escena es muy buena, predomina colores como el blanco y el morado que representa la gratitud y la feminidad. Las danzas y la música definitivamente son clásicas, bien cuidadas. A pesar de tratar temas sexuales, las escenas están más enfocadas al drama, al amor y la comedia, algo que me gusto mucho, ya que ofrece mayor credibilidad. Además, los vestuarios y el lugar se adecuaron bien a la época que representaba. A mi apreciación me gustó mucho el mensaje y lo que se buscó transmitir.
Conclusión
Lo que pude reflexionar en la película es que tiene una relación basada en la empatía pura, Gangubai la protagonista, no quería otra cosa que atender las quejas de las prostitutas. Tenía muchos sueños para sí misma, pero cuando perdió su inocencia y conoció el sufrimiento sin haber hecho nada malo, su meta fue proteger a su nueva familia, quienes eran las pobres mujeres que llegaban a los burdeles a ser vendidas por sus propios esposos o familias.
Gangubai se puso al frente y ayudó a las demás, a nunca bajar la mirada o sentirse avergonzadas por su trabajo. Estoy de acuerdo con la película de que nadie elige su destino, pero está en cada uno decidir la actitud con la que enfrentamos los problemas. Una historia con un ejemplo de superación, demostrando que aunque todas las posibilidades de ganar están en contra, se puede tener una ventaja y algo porque intentar así como lo hizo Gangubai.
Me considero una mujer que busca parcialidad a quienes son vistos con ojos amargos por la sociedad. Si compartes mis pensamientos y todo lo que he mencionado te invito a que veas la película porque te va a gustar. Acá te dejo el link del tráiler.

I am not a fan of Indian cinema, but I have spent time watching two movies and I loved it, the first one was "Dangal" and now "Gangubai Kathiawadi" to my way of seeing a well executed movie, although it has its critics because the main protagonist is too young to play the role, as it is based on the biography of a very important character for India written in the book "Mafia Queens of Mumbai". Another aspect to consider is that the film is produced by the Bollywood film industry and is therefore in its original language (Hindi).
Synopsis
Gangubai's film is about a young girl who comes from a very honorable family and her dream was to become a film actress. Suddenly she runs away with her boyfriend at the age of 16, only to be sold in a brothel on the streets of Kamati to a madam for only 500 rupees.
The narrative of this film tells the journey Ganga has to go through to become Gangubai, a madam and a strongly recognized female figure. In addition, she has political aspirations to improve the conditions of women working in kamatipura and manages to befriend influential people who will help her advocate for the rights of prostitutes to be recognized as all professions normally seen as worthy.
¿Why see the film?
After watching it on Nteflix with a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes, I can say that it is a really good movie and worth it even if it is subtitled. I feel that the lead actress represents women who we are innocent and fall in love with the first man who claims to "love" us, without having any idea what his true intentions are.
In the film we see that Gangubai and other women have had to go through hard times, such as being sold to a brothel. Who could imagine that her husband or boyfriend would do that? Something common in those decades ago, so I also understand that discrimination must have been terrifying for sex workers where it mattered little or nothing that their rights were respected.
There is a scene that Gangubai says "Who loved me sold my body and my dreams" This caused me a lot of sadness and I can understand that the confidence to be happy again could disappear for life, it is acceptable not to believe in men again. However, having known pain made Gangubai stop thinking about herself and care about women who suffered the same atrocious acts as her. The protagonist also forms a fearless character, capable of facing any situation that prevents her from continuing with the desire that prostitutes are no longer marginalized by society.
Another point that caught my attention, were the scenes that showed why it is wrong to judge and many might not agree with this; but also men need to satisfy their lust and on the other hand women protect their integrity. One aspect that is hard to say, but this type of work has prevented rape and the destruction of homes, so it is only fair that it is respected as are the other professions.
With respect to the details of staging is very good, predominantly colors like white and purple representing gratitude and femininity. The dances and music are definitely classic, well cared for. Despite dealing with sexual themes, the scenes are more focused on drama, love and comedy, something I liked a lot, as it offers more credibility. In addition, the costumes and the location were well suited to the era it represented. In my opinion, I really liked the message and what it sought to convey.
Conclusion
What I could reflect on the movie is that it has a relationship based on pure empathy, Gangubai the protagonist, wanted nothing more than to attend to the complaints of the prostitutes. She had many dreams for herself, but when she lost her innocence and knew suffering without having done anything wrong, her goal was to protect her new family, who were the poor women who came to the brothels to be sold by their own husbands or families.
Gangubai took the lead and helped the others, never to look down or feel ashamed of their work. I agree with the movie that no one chooses their destiny, but it is up to each of us to decide the attitude with which we face problems. A story with an example of overcoming, showing that even if all the odds are against you, you can have an advantage and something to try as Gangubai did.
