The Witcher is an amazing story that revolves around magic, magical creatures, the supernatural and the paranormal. When I first came across the book series I was so invested in the story that I became a fan of the book series. I love the story so much because it's totally a world of its own and when you start reading you just get sucked in and you wouldn't want to leave.
When I heard for the first time that the book series has been adapted into motion pictures, I was super excited and anxious to see it. To be honest, I thought Henry Cavill as the witcher character would be a disaster and in the end he was exactly what the series needed. I was surprised and impressed with the performance of the first season, but still it wasn't up to par with the book because I had already read all the book parts before the first season premiered, so I could tell.
Then when I watched the first season, I rated it 4.8 out of 5 stars. It was an amazing experience for me. It was intriguing, well written in the aspect of the plot, the setting and the costumes were befitting. The Cast performances were exceptional, especially Henry Cavill. Also, learning that Henry is die hard of The Witcher book series just cemented his fantastic performance in the TV series for me.
For the second season, I was a little disappointed because I began to notice that some changes were made to the plot and script for reason unknown. Some characters were watered down. It was infuriating because the book series wasn't like that, but I was like, "let's keep going, maybe it might be worth it". If you have read the book series before you would know what I am actually talking about.
Then came the third season and we the fans became more disappointed because of the announcement that was made by the producing crew that Henry Cavill will not continue with his role as the Witcher. That he will be replaced by someone they call em, em, what is his name again? Ah! Yeah, Liam Hemsworth. What the bl*dy hll is going on? That was my first reaction. I don't even like this dude. Immediately I began to imagine him with the Witcher white wig, and my brain just painted a person looking ridiculous. Well, the deed has been done, there is no going back that's why I say my farewell to The Witcher series. I am not that hurt because I have read all the books hehe.
'The Witcher' is a Medieval Fantasy TV series distributed by Netflix and created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The Witcher was adapted from a book series as I mentioned earlier. A book series with the same title written by Andrzej Sapkowski. It majorly starred Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan.
The Witcher season 3 was adapted from the fourth publication of the book series titled 'The Time of Contempt' where Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer travel to Aretuza to hide from those hunting Ciri while they train her to harness her power and fighting skills. In this season, our three favorite characters are now brought together to form a powerful trio. Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg and Princess Ciri.
From the beginning of the first episode, the hunt for Princess Ciri increases Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri kept on moving from one location to another in disguise and below the ground for their safety. But as they kept on moving, those hunting for Ciri kept on discovering their hideout one way or the other.
As they keep on moving, Yennefer continues to train Ciri so that she can harness her powers correctly and not destructively. Though they encountered a lot of obstacles and enemies as they journey to Aretuza, that didn't stop them from not moving forward. Will they be able to ward off the hunters? Will Geralt be able to protect his new found family?
My Review And Rating.
In this TV series, Netflix maintained their popular nickname, 'Destroyer of potential movies or series'. At first, they started out good but as they got to the third season everything began to deteriorate. I wouldn't fully blame Netflix but I think 80% of the blame goes to their writers. They destroyed the potential in The Witcher series. I am not surprised because so many good potential series have been destroyed by writers that sometimes the audience think Chatgpt wrote the script.
After watching season 3, I realized the reason why Henry Cavill left and I respect his decision. I am happy he left because it felt like the book series' reputation was damaged. It was insulting actually. If you have read all the book series you will understand where I am coming from. I wish the writers of this TV series had stuck to the storytelling path and style of the book series. I don't know why, producers always try to change the story of a book. If your writers are not good enough just stick to the book and be more creative with cinematography.
The only thing I appreciate about this season 3 is that the sets are lush and well done, the costumes are befitting for each character and the music fits well with the setting. The visuals were well captured to further making each scene more believable.
The Cast was em, okay but still each character went all out to make sure they portrayed their roles well but still I see that they were forcing themselves and script didn't do them justice, especially Henry. I was disappointed. The Witcher universe is a rich story that is packed with interesting characters, deeply emotional plot lines, fantastic supernatural creatures and settings. It is an understatement to say that The Witcher book series is a gold mine for producers who ready to produce blockbuster series but then The Witcher Verse fell into the wrong hands.
Their failure made me wonder, if The Witcher Verse had fallen into the hand of James Cameron, Guy Ritchie, or Guillermo del Toro. How would it have turned out? I can bet it would have turned out well and be successful in the box office.
Rating the third season of The Witcher, I will give it 3.9 out 5 stars. If you're yet to watch it, hurry now and watch. Your experience might be different from mine. Now, I say my goodbye to The Witcher series heheh, and goodluck to those who will stick around for the fourth season with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt 😈.
