Movie Review: Marry Me

Review by @evegrace · 1417d · of Marry Me

It never for once crossed my mind that the movie I had in my movie rack for the past months and almost deleted two days ago was the movie I was going to be so impressed about and would be doing a review on after watching the movie.

You heard that right, I got this movie along with other movies from a friend of mine a few months ago, done with the other movies but felt this laziness to watch this particular movie, I guess it's because the title of the movie was not appealing to me even when she specifically told me it was an interesting movie.

So, yesterday since sleep wouldn't locate me as I think I slept all the sleep that I needed to during the day, I decided to try out this movie and maybe delete finally if it wasn't worth my time. So, I did what I usually do, I fast-forwarded the movie from the beginning to the end just to first get a glimpse of what the movie actually looked like before I dive into it and I was so impressed by the movie.

Marry Me is a 2022 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Kat Coiro. Release date: 11 February 2022. Stars: Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Maluma, John Bradley, Sarah Silverman, Chloe Coleman, and Michelle Buteau.

The Plot

Jennifer Lopez as Kat Valdez, a pop star, who decides to marry Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), a math teacher holding a "Marry Me" sign, after watching the video of her groom man Bastian (Maluma) caught has had an affair with her assistant on a live performance with 20 million people streaming who came to watch both of them say their vows using their new song titled "Marry Me".

Charlie is a divorcee who teaches maths in his daughter's (Chloe Coleman) school with no life outside his work, daughter, and dog.

Although he doesn't believe in love after his divorce from his wife who is again married to someone else but with the push from his colleague, he decides to give the three months marriage trial with Kat although not his thing after his divorce.

Both parties have the same thing in common when it concerns their love life and marriage but Kat still does believe in marriage after three marriage failures.

Will Kat go back to Bastian after the three months elapses because she loved him so much or would she stick to Charlie just for her fame and the media's sake?

My Thoughts

My first thought immediately seeing the title was oh my God, another cliche movie but taking my time to watch the movie, I realized that the movie is indeed thrilling.

The cast was amazing Kat, Charlie, Chloe, Lou, Parker, and even Kat's manager. Especially Charlie's daughter, she was amazing, and her scene was amazing.

The movie is relatable to our day-to-day life, most times we try to define our lives on what the world thinks we should look like or be like and later realize that all we ever wanted was more than what we are settling for. We find love even in the strangest places

Favourite scene I think it should be the second to the last scene when Kat realized that she loved Charlie even if he wasn't the definition of who a famous person like her was supposed to marry.

She left the interview with Bastian and ran to meet Charlie in Chicago where there were having their Mathalion competition, she wasn't going to let the world dictate who she is supposed to fall in love with.

My second favourite was the last scene Lou allowed her father to hug her on stage after she ran out of time in their mathematics competition due to stage fright after a long while of refusing to let her father hug her because she felt he was boring and she was a big girl.

And yeah, her red gown was kind of too tight that while she was running to meet up with the ticket to Chicago, she kinda seemed funny that I just could not help but watch that scene over and over again.

Rating I'd rate this 8/10, although it revolves around songs, stage, and performances but it is a simple movie that comes with a great lesson.

Thanks for reading!!!

Wow, that does look intriguing, but it isn't my kind of movie. Nevertheless, if I ever stumble across it, I'll watch it. Hi Evegrace, nice to meet you.
