[Movie reviews] I just want to hold your hand-"Robot Story"

Review by @filoso · 2057d · of WALL-E

There is probably only one robot still in operation on Earth, but it still obeys Asimov's three laws of robots.

I want to give up all from scratch Because I hold your hand enough Wu Bai "My Name" Have you imagined the sunset of mankind? In science fiction, or comics and movies, the end of the world is a very common theme. If you don't destroy the earth several times in your own work, you are ashamed to say that you are engaged in science fiction. Compared with the authors who reduced the solar system's dimensions and caused the universe to collapse at every turn, the end of the earth is considered very conservative or even fraternal. When it comes to the end of the world, people first think about the outbreak of nuclear war, the extinction of all living things on the earth, or the leakage of deadly viruses, human beings become brain-eating zombies, or the artificial intelligence invented by human beings will be enslaved by humans. In the movie "Robot Story"-the end of the world is still the familiar formula, but the taste has quietly changed. Because it’s no longer a theater movie ("Robot Story" was released in the United States on June 27, 2008. In the same year, Chinese sci-fi and animation enthusiasts used their own familiar methods to obtain the seeds of the film and feast their eyes), and I believe that Most science fiction fans have watched this classic robot movie many times, so this article can be a shameless spoiler. If you happen to have not watched this movie, then you can turn off the link and go out and walk slowly after reading this. The story takes place in a far future, an earth abandoned by human civilization, and mountains of steel trash piled up all over the cloud. The scene of the end times is well portrayed, and a zombie running out of an abandoned room will not be able to It looks abrupt. But there are no zombies, there is one robot and one roach each. There is no dialogue in the first 20 minutes of the film, and no human dialogue in the first forty minutes. Everything is described objectively to the audience through lens language. We saw the dilapidated robot with WALL-E printed on its chest. WALL-E is his name. Wali is also the English abbreviation of Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class. It is literally translated as the earth waste recycling machine. Its job is to fill its chest with rubbish every day and squeeze it into a regular cube and place it neatly. After a long time, Wali gradually gained some self-awareness, and it began to make some collections based on personal hobbies outside of work. Its collections are mainly focused on things closely related to human life, such as light bulbs, Rubik's Cubes, lighters, and DVDs. Of course, in addition to the collections, it also collects many parts of the same robot for emergencies. Through the scene of Wali unloading the rolling belt from his "dead" companion, we can know that there is probably only one robot still running on the earth, but it still follows Asimov’s three laws of robots. Although there are sometimes small runs, but generally still diligently obey the initial preset instructions. Until Eve appeared.

I need to explain briefly here. The English name of Eve is EVE, which is the English spelling of Eve. At the same time, the origin of WALL-E is the same. Words are very important, which directly determines the direction of the story. Some people say that this movie is actually not out of the box at all. It is a typical story of a poor boy pursuing white and rich beauty, so it makes sense. First of all, the appearance of Eve laid the tone. Eve's production is very sophisticated, with rounded lines, both offensive and defensive, and capable of magnetic levitation (I guess), and can fly freely. It is in sharp contrast to Walli's dilapidated appearance and low-level processing system. When the two robots introduced each other's name, Wali's pronunciation was vague and laborious, but Eve's bite was very clear, which also reminded the audience that these two robots are not products of the same world at all. But this does not prevent the two robots from coming together, and it is precisely because of the contrast that the story is full of charm. Secondly, the next plot is the robot abuse of the dog. Through a series of designs full of laughter, the image of a loser who longs for love but appears low self-esteem is vividly portrayed. Under Wali's continuous efforts, a little bit of Iraqi Fu's favor is even his heart. Wali showed his collection to Eve, the light bulb was lit in Eve's hands, the Rubik's Cube was quickly restored in Eve's hands, and the lighter became a tool for them to show love in the future. At this time, Wali unreservedly showed his best collection, a green plant that has just sprouted, and the story has a qualitative advance because of this green plant. Don't forget the vegetation assessment in Eve's name. Eve came to the earth to search for organic creatures.

Once again, Hollywood screenwriters still follow the inherent path. Jack cannot be allowed to run away with Lucy so easily. He must create some hardships to test whether he really loves her and give him a chance to show himself. This movie is no exception. After spending forty minutes on the lifeless earth, the angle of view suddenly zoomed out, and the moon, solar system, and milky way were all thrown down. Wali followed the spaceship to the last shelter of mankind, the Axiom. On the Axiom number, obese people can no longer take care of themselves and need to rely on various robots to maintain daily life and entertainment. Because Eve brought back the green plants, the captain and the artificial intelligence put on started a debate about whether to return to the earth, and the debate eventually escalated into hands-on. At this time, the artificial intelligence easily took control of the captain, and ordered Eve and Wali to capture and destroy them. Here, it cannot be said that the artificial intelligence on the spacecraft is a villain. It does this not for itself, but because of the instructions left by the previous designers. It judges that the spacecraft is not suitable for returning to the voyage, and the respected humans cannot survive like cockroaches. The story after that is nothing more than how the male lead, through his own wisdom and perseverance, and the various coincidences designed for it because of the protagonist's aura, finally overcome the challenge and become the hero. Therefore, it is not too much to say that this is a traditional Hollywood movie counterattacked by diaosi, but what is commendable is that through robots, we have seen Walli's innocence and bravery that have been rare in humans, as well as the desperation of romantic love.

At the beginning of the film, Wali was full of yearning for love through watching the previous video tapes. This is embodied in holding hands with the person in love, so when Eve appeared, he couldn't help but fall in love with it, and several times Try to hold it by the hand. The director continues to express Wali's love for Eve through the extremely simple action of holding hands. At the end of the film, Wali, who was hurt in order to complete the task assigned to it by the Hollywood screenwriter, finally got his wish and took Eve's hand. Looking at such a picture, you will feel that the earth is destroyed a hundred times at all. What can touch our numb heart? This is it. Finally, I will mention a few impressive robots in the film. The first is the robot Xiaoqiang. Some netizens think that the cockroach is a creature, but the director does not think so. The director has publicly stated that this Xiaoqiang is not only a robot. , And his own name, called Hal, is a tribute to the computer HAL 9000 in "2001: A Space Odyssey". When the captain of the Axiom and the artificial intelligence AUTO of the spacecraft (AUTO is not Alto, but automatic, which means that the Axiom is in charge), when the captain struggled to stand up, the background music and "2001" "A Space Odyssey" has the same music when apes awaken. There is also a funny robot MO whose role is probably similar to the squirrel in "Ice Age" who can't eat nuts. MO is the abbreviation of Microbe Obliterator, which translates to Microbe Obliterator. In the movie, it has suffered a lot because of Walli. There is also the WALL-A (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Axiom-Class) robot of the same model that is responsible for cleaning up rubbish on the Axiom. The shape is similar to that of Wali, but it is much larger. There is also a small role that everyone easily overlooks, that is, the welding robot BURN-E, which is locked out of the spacecraft by Walli and Eve. Pixar has also made a special special for it. If you are interested, you can find it. Regarding the director of the film, Andrew Stanton, you may not be familiar with the name, but it does not matter. You always know about Finding Nemo. "Finding Nemo" and this "Robot Story" are enough to give him a place in the hearts of anime fans.
