Britannia Series Review!

Review by @filotasriza3 · 3069d · of Britannia

In case you wanna start a new Series that contains Swords,Tribes and ''Magic'' then Britannia is the right call for You!

General info

Britannia is a brand new series that released in 18 January in the UK and a big producer of this show is Amazon Studios. Now this thing is a pretty big deal to me us i really like to see more studios involved and watch what they can do and offer to the public. This show has 9 episodes which are already out, of 1 hour long each and it is considered an action, drama and fantasy one. (Note the fantasy part)

Story-Plot

In 55 BC Julius Caesar invaded Britannia for as you may guess extra land and natural resources bu he came across the Druids and Celts and basically came back home with many stories and fear. 9 decades later at 43 AD Emperor Claudius is determined to invade once again Britannia led by commander Aulus (played by David Morrissey, you may know him from Walking Dead) and gain back everything Caesar couldn't gain.

At the first episode we get to see many different tribes, a little bit about their social structure and affairs as well as their fighting power. The story starts with the Romans one the one side that start their journey and on the other side a little girl named Cait preparing for the upcoming festival in which she would become a woman and choose her own name. At the same time there is Divis or as they call him ''The Outcast'' that can foresaw some events, talk with gods, go to the underworld and in general all the cool stuff we do after taking some drugs! He foresaw that the Romans will come and bring great disaster!

Soon he runs to inform the Druids which supposed to be the ones that can use some form of ''magic'' but they kick him out and tell him not to come again as they have expelled him from their group a long time ago. The Druids basically look like necromancers in appearance inside the show! The night comes and the little girl along with other girls go to the ceremony in which an elder literally smoke drugs and blow them straight to their faces. A little bit after the Romans emerge out of nowhere, kill and capture some people while the girl is saved by the Outcast.

that's a Druid

While all this happening, some other tribes are informed about the Romans landing and start forming their strategies and provide us with more new characters and views. The Roman soldiers all came with fear in these lands us they have heard the stories from 9 decades ago but their commander Aulus has no fears but more like a curiosity because his true motive seems to be to discover this sort of magic Druids are known to use.

Should I Watch It?

By now i have only seen the first episode so i don't know what the other 2 have to offer, that's why my opinion is limited and based on that first episode alone. I think you should watch it but before doing so have in mind the following things:

  1. Don't compare it to GOT or any other series: A lot of people comparing it with GOT either in their minds or straight with reviews and that doesn't lead anywhere. Every show is different, try to watch as a completely separate and unique thing especially when it doesn't contain dragons and enjoy or hate it for what it really is.
  2. Don't think of it as a completely historical show like Vikings: In Vikings as far as it concerns the historic part they have done a pretty amazing job from studying everything to bringing historians enlighten them more. Britannia is more of fantasy one as if you take it completely historically you gonna find some differences, so once again try to watch as a fantasy show and i don't think it gonna let you down

Finally the acting is quite good even though most of the actors seem to be British (Romans with a bit of British accent is a bit....:P) and there are many funny dialogues in which i cant hide the fact that i smiled (remember the character called Phelan!). Also the scenery and land views are amazing, really really amazing and from what i have read the filming locations were in Wales and Czech. The Reviews about the show in general give a little be more than 6.5/10 but my suggestion is to watch before you judge. I may in the end give the same score but i honestly believe most of them are overacting.
