Disenchantment Review!

Review by @filotasriza3 · 2786d · of Disenchantment

I just finished watching Netflix's Disenchantment, so another day was spent sorely for my entertainment! For all of you that never heard about Disenchantment just keep in mind that we are talking about a medieval cartoon created by Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein, the creators of Simpsons and Futurama! The first season of the cartoon released at 17 August of 2018 and has 10 episodes that around 30 minutes long. Also season 2 is announced and will be out during 2019 with 10 episodes as well (maybe 11).

Plot

The plot revolves around the kingdom of Dreamland and more specifically to a princess named Bean. She is a teen who has no friends, lost her mother and lives only with her father the king, so as you can imagine she rebels against everything. She is constantly drunk, blame her father about everything and has the usual teen behavior.

At the same time we get to see a far away land full of happy elves, singing happy songs and making sweets but among them there is one elf called Elfo that is sicked and tired of this and wanna see the rest of the world. He decides to leave the town and pursue his dream.

Meanwhile something happens and a demon called Luci pops out and is tied with Bean. The demon looks like a 2 dimensional shit so don't expect anything fancy. Elfo meets Bean and Luci, they become friends and till episode 7 we get to see them in many adventures completely unrelated to the plot!

Thoughts and Spoilers

In a way you may say that Bean is the teen with many issues and Elfo serves the role of the good influence (happy-good Angel) while Luci is the bad influence (the bad little demon). Before i start mentioning all the bad things i should congratulate them on the great animation. Also the style that the castle of Dreamland presented was pretty amazing in my eyes, it reminded me of online gaming!

The Bad!

Everything that's happening is quite expected for me. When i am finishing an episode i don't really care that much about the next one cause nothing bounds me with it. Also, that may be only me, but throughout the show i didn't laugh at all, not a single bit, not even a smile. In a way i even expected the jokes. It felt like they were trying to act funny with cliche jokes that we have heard a dozen times each, maybe i have watched too many cartoons and shows so that's why, or it's something else?

On A bright side, the last 3 episodes were totally different than the rest of the show. In these episodes many things happened that were unexpected and had some "plot twists". That makes the viewers wanna check the next season even though the jokes were a joke! (see what i did there?), just to find out what happened with some characters and what will be the final outcome.

Hopefully, the second season will skip all these unnecessary things and give more emphasis to the main plot of the show. Maybe all of this is happening due to the experience of the writers. When they have created shows like Simpsons with 600 episodes for ages, they sure don't know or don't care how to stay in the plot and just lean towards the making of more and more episodes! (so i understand them in a way

My rating will be a 6.5/10
