Another week another movie!
Wow it's the third week in a row that i am watching a movie in the Cinema! I just came back, feeling a bit sleepy but i need to write down my review for the future generations that will read this! Also, because everything is fresh in my mind and probably tomorrow i may miss some things.
Let's Get Started!
General Info
The film is directed by Donovan Marsh and is considered an action thriller, although i would just say it's plain action. It's a film that's for people above 15 though, so that must mean something :P. The main stars of the show are Leonidas.... i meant Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Common, Linda Cardellini among others! The whole film is based on a 2012 novel by George Wallace and Don Keith
Plot
The whole plot starts when 2 submarines, one American and one Russian play "hide and seek" and end up getting destroyed somehow. Now America sends another submarine called Hunter Killer to find out what exactly happened. The incident happened near Russia so as you can imagine if they can't determine the cause of the destruction that can even mean war. For that purpose they sent Joe Glass (Gerard Butler) to investigate.
At the same time near that area there is a Russian marine base in where the Russian President has a meeting that soon turns into a coup. Joe Glass soon discovers that the Russian submarine had been sabotaged while the Americans discover about the coup (cause they have eyes everywhere)

trailer
They decide to sent a Navy Seals team to that base to save the President in order to avoid a possible war and the escape route in no other than the submarine. Joe Glass also realizes that there are some survivors in that Russian submarine and decide to save them. One of the survivors is the captain of the Russian submarine that had been sabotaged as i mentioned earlier.
So we have a film that splits between what the submarine is doing, what the Navy Seal are doing and what happens at the american HQ
My Thoughts
Positives
The fight scenes are amazing and get ready to see a lot of action going on, not only with guns that the Navy Seals are using but with torpedoes and heavy artillery from war ships. Also, they have paid close attention to the the details of the submarine both the outside as well as the inside. There were some moments when the "huge guns" took place that i felt and odd satisfaction like those that you watch in YouTube videos cutting slices of butter and stuff! :P
The acting contrary to what they say is pretty good and makes you feel sorry about the characters and what they've been though and at the end you feel like you won too! Gary Oldman is a hidden gem in this movie as i believe nobody played that much attention to him but his acting was marvelous and to the point. (even though some critics disagree with this)

The number 1 positive for me was that there was a sense of brotherhood and humanity. All these people are soldiers and they have to follow orders, orders that most of the times may not agree with and we are talking about orders like killings. In the film though it shows that it just need a person to change that and make things right and a chain will follow!
Likewise there is a sense of brotherhood between comrades. Trust plays a big role in life and it has huge impact in army cause basically your life depend on the people you have next to you. Many times in the film we get to see this kind of trust between comrades it is just beautiful.
Negatives
There are 2 negatives i see. The first one is that watching this film you gonna say "this is not gonna work in real life" and you will be completely right. In order all of these to happen with that success rate everyone needs to have lvl up the luck skill to maximum. The second one is that this film is about explosions, bigger explosions, bigger guns and brotherhood so it's possible all he women that are watching it to not feel the same as men or don't get some things. The same can apply to some men that haven't been in army yet!
All in All i will rate it with 7.5/10
