It's been a long time since one of my reviews but rest assured, i still watch shows, movies, and anime like there is no tomorrow. I finished altered carbon a couple of days ago and now i am on the second season of snowpiercer which is the one i will make my review.
Generic Info
To begin with, Snowpiercer has a long long history before it even gets a series. It first started out as a french graphic Novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette in 1982 and is supposed to be a trilogy.
Moving on to 2013 the novel became a science fiction South-Korean/Czech movie, directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Chris Evans, known as Captain America among others. The majority of people have seen the movie and really liked it from what i have seen.
Plot
Moving on to the series, it is created by Josh Friedman and Graeme Manson and the lead actors of the show are Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs. The series and the plot begins with a train of 1001 wagons which is constantly on the road for 7 years.
That's because the Earth has become a frozen wasteland with minus 110 degrees and even less, that can't sustain life. Thus, the only survivors are living on the train which is basically their home now.
According to history, tickets were sold, around 3000 that determine who will onboard on the train when the time comes. Before the departure, some other people that haven't bought a ticket managed to get on board and that's how the show starts.
Now the train has different classes depending on the ticket one bought. There is the third class with the most common people, the second class which has richer people and the first-class which has the richest people.
Each class has some benefits like, better food, better accommodation more space and such. Also, people from the third and second class are working on the train, either as a police force (breakman), janitors, cookers or have small shops. On the other hand, the first-class only enjoys the benefits.
There is also an extra class called the tail in which all the people that onboarded illegally belong to. They have the worst accommodation and the worst food portions. In fact, according to the novel, they eat a bar that contains bugs and cockroaches.
Anyway, the tail with its leader Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) decides to make a revolution that will bring order to the train and everybody will be equals. They have also tried to revolt as they said but failed and people died. This time though they try to play the game in a smart way.
At the same time, there has been a murder on the train and the one on the top of the food chain wants to solve it quickly in order to maintain the order. He sends his spokeperson, Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) to the tail to bring Layton over because they need his expertise as an ex-homicide cop.
After that many things happen, many secrets of the train and its people reveal which i won't spoil for you though because as we all know, i am too cool to be true!
Good and Bad
The "good" things of the series are their stunning effects in terms of the inside of the train and the outside environment. Aside from that i really like the character development we see in certain people as well as the mystery they build as to what's going to happen next.
The "bad" ones or thing that i didn't like to rephrase it better are quite some, to be honest. Firstly, i don't' like the fight scenes, they seem way unbalanced. We have fights between the people of the tails who are of every age, no trained and with random weapons against military trained soldiers with batons, axes, and armor and they fight on even terms.
Also, i have said it multiple times but i hate political correctness in movies and shows. There is no black lead actor and the worst part is that after you have watched so many movies and series like i have, you can tell.
I haven't read the novel nor watched the movie and i said to my friends when watching it from episode 2, that this actor not only is bad as a lead actor but somehow he doesn't fit there. Well, i was right on both of my statements. Wherever you search for reviews, in the negatives you will see about Daveed's bad acting as a lead role...
I can say way more about political correctness because there is everywhere in the show but the other "drawback" in my eyes is the dark element that is missing. I read a little bit of the novel after the first season and ohh boy it's way way darker than what we see in the show.
At the very least, some people after watching the show will go and read the novel! Ahh also there is a second season and possibly there will be the third one. The second season started out great with one of the people's favorite actors, Sean Bean. I hope it will be better than the first one!
