Yesterday i watched the First Purge which is the newest movie of the purge series. I have watched every purge film included the purge series so i can pretty much know my stuff. To tell you the truth when i saw the first purge film i was so amazed by the concept which is 12 night hours that everything (crime,rape,killing) is free and by doing that the crimes rates are extremely low. Also, i got fascinated with the creativity of the way too many masks that everyone wore in all these films and throughout the show.
Plot
Now let's talk a bit about the plot. In the movie "The First Purge" we are suppose to learn how this whole purge thing started and what happened during the first Purge night. We are in America in where the crime rate is extremely high and many riots, marching take place each day. That's why a new political party emerges the NFFA (New Founding Fathers Of America) that wins the elections and now rule the country.
They tag along a psychologist and wanna make an experiment which is the so called purge night. They don't know what exactly will happen so they choose a borough of New York, Staten Island which is supposed to be ruled over by gangs,drugs and is full of low income people and minorities. They sent people over there to talk with each citizens that wanna participate in purge.If they choose to stay in the town they gonna get paid 5000$ and if they wanna purge they will earn much more.
One of the protagonists is called Nya who is against the whole purge night and tries with other activists to stop it. She has a younger brother Isaiah who secretly sells drugs behind his sister back. Finally, the other main protagonist is the drug lord who's name is Dmitri that was previously being Nya's boyfriend. Ahh there is a psycho drug addict that's called skeletor who awaits the Purge night to begin.
The Purge Night Begins
The purge night begins but it's going as NFFA thought it would cause nobody dies and instead huge parties emerge throughout every neighborhood. Only one kill takes place and it's on Skeletor who as we said is a Psycho so everybody expected. Aside from this the most serious thing that happens is some vandalism in some stores. However, the NFFA wanted this to succeed and thus hires mercenaries that enter Staten Island and start killing whoever they find included innocent people that are hiding in their homes and churches.
Dmitri founds out about this and along his gang attacks all this mercenaries and finally manages to kill all of them but with severe costs. A little after he achieve is goals the day comes so the Purge finally ends. Note also that one of the purposes of Purge is to kill low income people in order to not pay them money because they are minorities or pay "benefits" they have, cut short the criminality rate and deal with overpopulation.
Why I Think It Sucked
Let me now tell you why i haven't enjoyed it at all. The whole movie became a racist/political correctness kind of thing that made everyone looked foolish. On the one hand we have the evil white guys that are the government and wanna kill and destroy the minorities of Staten Island which is primarily blacks and Hispanic. They also leave the meaning that if the experiment is successful they will kinda exterminate the minorities in every area.
90% of the protagonist and people in Staten Island that we get to see are blacks. After the purge begins the people are so good between each other that we have no killings and instead we have parties.........in an area that's full of gangs and criminals that each day kill people and conduct crimes. The only one day that crime is allowed somehow all these people choose to follow their ethic and be good, for the sake of their community, because that's very close to reality.
Then because the experiment is going wrong, the white chief choose to sent mercenaries who guess what......are all whites. Not only are whites but dressed lie Nazis and look like Germans. So they send the evil Nazis to kill the innocent and good blacks and Hispanic people. Guess who fights back!
The fucking Drug lord Dmitri who fights like he is wolverine merge with Jackie Chan. Now i quote his words
our neighbor is under siege
from a government that doesn't give a shit about us
there are a lot of good people out there
let's show these white hair motherfuckers
I repeat this is what the Drug Lord said who all this time took advantage of his own community by selling drugs and stuff, hurt people of his own color for the exact same reason and he is the one of the main reasons his neighborhood is going for worse to worst. Also, he is one of the few people that is tied with the increase in criminality rate and thus making his own city a target for the NFFA because of his actions. After everything finished he earned the title of "the king", once again the Drug Lord.
Do you get know why this movie sucked?
Thankfully it's not just me, in IMDb the rating is 5.1/10 so it sucked bad, but hey at least they had profit and earned money so it's ok!
