Hello my dear friends of @movies&tvshows I greet you hoping you are well. Today I bring you one of those Kdrama's that make me fall in love, make me sigh, make me shed some tears and above all touches my heart with its reflections and memories.

WHEN MY LOVE BLOOMS (2020)

Score: 5/5

Why did I love it?

I didn't know that on Netflix I could say "I liked it, I didn't like it and I loved it". Well, I bookmarked this last one because it was a series that really touched the most adolescent and loving part of my being.

What do you remember from your teenage years?

I remember my time at university. I started when I was 16 and stayed there until I was 23, with many anecdotes and things I would never want to remember, but today we are here to talk about the good things. At my alma mater, which I still remember with the nostalgia of my best years of activity and euphoria, I was able to develop in the area of protest, to raise my voice, to be able to change the course of my country and the rescue of what students mean in the formation of the next politicians of our nation.

What does this story have to do with the series? Well, *Han Jae-hyun and Yoon Ji-soo* met at the university where they studied. She is upper middle class (daughter of a prosecutor) and he is a scholarship student who belongs to the student centre to fight for the students' demands.

I remember that in the year I entered university, the student movement in Venezuela was organised in such a way that the two sides (the government and the opposition) were responsible for so many decisions taken by the government because the movement was so big.

I remember I had friends who were fighting for canteen benefits, library, transport, student financial benefits and it turned out that WE WERE HEARD! When they said "we are going to close the university" everyone immediately organised and acted. They closed the institution, the avenues, they looted trucks loaded with food, it was an uproar that was felt locally and even nationally.

On the other hand, the police came, threw bombs at them, pellets (plastic bullets), took some prisoners, all with the aim of dispersing the young people who were fighting for university rights. It was a shocking scene to see the bravery, courage and gallantry of people so inspired and fighting with and for their ideals; moreover, to be listened to, to be taken into account, it really marked the before and after of my youth as well as those of us who were involved.

I was on the side of the political opposition, and we held marches, strikes, hunger strikes, chaining, banners, meetings, that is to say, our voice was heard through various activities and even in the universities we won the university government, the university rector's offices and it was a constant adrenaline rush because of all the changes that were happening around us.

In my case, I realised much later that it was a political work, where there were many external forces and money to finance these campaigns, which meant that we could only move forward for those who had more power or money. It is something very complex that our protagonists understood much later. Han Jae-hyun understood that there are struggles that have no end or are inconclusive so he chose to be on the other side: the side of the oppressor or the one in power. Yoon Ji-soo did keep her ideals of struggle and honourable "causes" and vindication, which got her into a lot of trouble.

The other reason the message struck me in a positive way is that our couple is reunited 20 years later. Of course in that time apart they made many decisions that have brought them to where they are today. In my personal love story not much time has passed, but this part is like asking what would you do if you were reunited with that past love, and even more so when that story was left unfinished or when they parted loving each other. Believe me it is.

Since they cross their eyes *Han Jae-hyun and Yoon Ji-soo* that first time, they fall in love with each other, has it ever happened to you? Well, it has happened to me; and not only that, but she is daring, more daring in falling in love with him and telling him "hey, you'll be for me"; that's brave, I don't get there either but her character knows what she wants and she goes for it.

But now I'm going to tell you a little about each of these characters that I loved from the first chapter, as well as their story, which is divided into two: 20 years ago and today.

(Joo Ji-Tae y Park Jin- Young)

(Joo Ji-Tae y Park Jin- Young)

I'm not mistaken, they are two actors playing the same character: one as an adult and one as a teenager (as they are named). The young Han Jae-hyun was very mature; from an early age he learned the value of work but also the affection of his parents. A promising young lawyer, he recognised early on the existing inequalities and fought to counteract these effects. He championed many causes both inside and outside the university, mostly of a social nature.

This behaviour reminded me of several friends, very good friends that I met in the movement and who today are part of the political life of my country. Many of them who were educated in the universities and raised their voices today are still pursuing this career, which I liked very much. Those who saw them as destabilisers do not know what they are talking about. Belonging and defending what you believe in and your ideals, makes you a strong, courageous person; on the other hand, confronting the police with your hands and your bravery, willing to die for what you believe in, is something that only a few can do.

This young man, because of his love with Yoon Ji-soo is even taken into exile where he begins to understand the dangers in which he is immersed and those around him can be so he decides to step aside and although that love never died, he changed drastically to belong to the side of those he once hated and fought for.

This obviously filled him with power and wealth, but deep down he was not happy. It is in this dilemma that he makes many mistakes, so when he meets his first love again, he doesn't hesitate to try to rescue her and even smile again after so many years of a bleak life full of injustice.

Friends, look at it; surely we can make an analogy of what we were before and what we are now, when did everything change? Do we have what we long for? Are we what we dreamed of? I'm not saying leave your marriage and go straight for that impossible or failed love 🤣 I'm just saying when did we lose that euphoria, those dreams and that desire to change history, because let's be honest, many of us thought things that we don't even remember now.

Yoon Ji-soo

(Lee Bo-young y Jeon So-nee)

Yoon Ji-soo

(Lee Bo-young y Jeon So-nee)

You could say it's the typical story of the teenage girl with social standing and a promising career in the art world when she falls in love with the bad boy in the film. But no, it goes beyond that, it's about Yoon Ji-soo discovering a reason to fight, to feel important and to belong to something.

He had a life designated by his father and when he learns about the movement, he gets involved in such a way that he takes an interest in the causes, helping to establish strategies or taking the lead when it is time to confront the authorities.

Han Jae-huyn looked after her a lot and this also reminds me of the time when I wanted to take part and my friends wouldn't let me because they thought I was too weak for such things and I had to show that I could help by standing up to the police alongside them. Now I realise the dangers I was in.

Continuing with the story, this allowed Yoon Ji-soo to work altruistically with other organisations when she started her working life as she was forced to decide early on between her love or her freedom. This kind of decision kept her on tenterhooks for a long time, but if I can say one thing for sure, it is that in the end she makes the right choice YES!

How did I perceive the story?

Nice, fresh, different, original, thoughtful, with a very fresh dialogue, understandable, everything is explained correctly. I liked the work of explaining the before and after. The emotion of seeing each other for the second time. Also that they didn't wait long to decide how bad it was in their lives and how they fixed it. The secondary characters were very well worked and emotional (I hated the ex-husband); the children were a point of study and reflection for the problems present in the current teenage world.

Finally, I have to emphasize that once again they don't have a forced inclusion, so it's very nice to see every scene without those inclusions that Netflix is used to. I think that's why I like Kdramas because they keep the essence.

There are 16 chapters that I enjoyed and would definitely watch again. Recommended for young and adult audiences, as a couple or alone. Everyone can enjoy it.

It looks very interesting this drama, as always keeping that essence that makes us watch kdramas after kdramas-.

Definitely, there are many things we thought and believed when we were young, decades later we think totally different and many old goals have been forgotten. That stage of youth is very nice, we think we are the masters of the world, then we collide with the sad reality.

I won't watch it because I'm not a fan of K-dramas, but I'm sure fans of these productions will love this recommendation.
