School and self-improvement have no place in a place where work seems to be more important, much less for female hands that can already wash dishes when they step into adolescence. Lila and Elena are the reflection against that pattern of slavery, exclusion and violence that women suffer, and they will live in their own flesh the bitter havoc they must face to change that oppressive reality that haunts them, even if it leads them to sacrifice their friendship.

One of the strengths of My Brilliant Friend are the characters of her, which melt like a mirror whose reflection is mainly focused on Elena. She is the one who is judging the different roles that her closest friends take, but, like all shadows, she can hardly be noticed and felt against the light. We meet a set of unfriendly, arrogant, clumsy and degenerate protagonists, each of them with the blindfold of ignorance and indolence in her eyes. We are facing a universe of characters that seem to stagnate in their own gravity, like dead stars that freeze even knowing that there is heat in their cores. Indifference serves as a starting point for each of them to face their own problems, cultivating a doubtful and fearless moralism in their constant internal and external questions and battles.
Uno de los puntos fuertes de My Brilliant Friend son sus personajes, los cuales funden como un espejo cuyo reflejo se centra principalmente en Elena. Ella es quién va juzgando los diferentes roles que toman sus amigos más cercanos, pero, como toda sombra, apenas puede notarse y sentirse contra la luz. Conocemos a un conjunto de protagonistas antipáticos, soberbios, torpes y degenerados, cada uno de ellos con la venda de la ignorancia y la indolencia en sus ojos. Estamos frente a un universo de personajes que parecieran estancarse en su propia gravedad, como estrellas muertas que se congelan aun sabiendo que hay calor en sus núcleos. La indiferencia sirve como punto de partida para que cada uno de ellos enfrente sus propios problemas, cultivando un moralismo dudoso e intrépido en sus constantes cuestionamientos y batallas tanto internas como externas.

Mi opinión sobre My Brilliant Friend
The drama of this story reflects that agony, fear, resentment and hatred of a society that faces a reality predisposed to ignorance. I think that in this context the idea that two women serve as an example to show the confrontation against those absurd customs so representative of gender exclusion, domestic violence and social inequalities is extremely satisfactory. We are facing two friends who use the bonds of friendship and companionship to immerse themselves in adversity and live them side by side.
Desolation is the most important message, because in it the action comes to life under a painful premise. You can see a fiction not far from reality where a few study and others wash dishes because they do not have money for a notebook and a pencil. The resignation of the poorest classes to misery and almsgiving is visualized from generation to generation, something that Elena Ferrante and Saverio Costanzo materialized in My Brilliant Friend with a definitely moving story arc.
El drama de esta historia refleja esa agonía, miedo, rencor y odio de una sociedad que se enfrenta a una realidad predispuesta a la ignorancia. Creo que en este contexto es sumamente satisfactoria la idea de que dos mujeres sirvan de ejemplo para mostrar el enfrentamiento en contra de esas costumbres absurdas tan representativas de la exclusión de género, la violencia intrafamiliar y las desigualdades sociales. Estamos ante dos amigas que usan los lazos de amistad y compañerismo para sumergirse en las adversidades y vivirlas codo a codo.
La desolación es el mensaje más importante, porque en él la acción cobra vida bajo una premisa dolorosa. Puede apreciarse una ficción no muy lejos de la realidad donde algunos pocos estudian y otros lavan platos por no tener dinero para un cuaderno y un lápiz. La resignación de las clases más pobres a la miseria y la limosna se visualiza de generación en generación, algo que Elena Ferrante y Saverio Costanzo materializaron en My Brilliant Friend con un arco argumental definitivamente conmovedor.
The plot is solid and particularly detailed, since each element, gesture and setting transmits that nostalgia in a somewhat convulsed 1950s Italy. From the first minute you let yourself be carried away by the charisma of these two friends, who like salt and sugar decorate a bittersweet, unusual and sometimes crazy dish. Love is not the only answer to everything, because hatred is much stronger and is easier on the hearts of the characters. At some point, the story turns completely 180 degrees, taking an unexpected and otherwise intriguing turn. That friendship now turns cold, spiteful and full of broken hearts. Even so, from the first episode there is a clear indication of the fragility of some personalities, an issue that keeps the storyline completely indeformable.
Both Lila and Elena are those opposite sides of the same coin. Certainly, one of the sides must hit the ground while the other watches silently, hardly affected by the force of the impact. So far the first two seasons have been good, although you should choose one as I would prefer the second. Perhaps some elements were heavily exploited, such as Lila's unbalanced personality or Elena's delicate naivety, however, it seems that this turned out very well for the story. Again, Max Richter captivated us with a soundtrack very attached to the emotions and feelings of the characters. For me the best role was played by Gaia Girace as Lila Cerullo. Her indomitable personality still draws a few laughs and sighs in my mouth.
La trama es sólida y particularmente detallista, pues cada elemento, gesto y escenario transmite esa nostalgia en una Italia de los años 50 algo convulsa. Desde el primer minuto te dejas llevar por el carisma de estas dos amigas, que como la sal y el azúcar adornan un plato agridulce, inusual y en ocasiones descabellado. El amor no es la única respuesta a todo, porque el odio es mucho más fuerte y se consigue más fácil en el corazón de los personajes. En algún punto, la historia gira completamente a los 180 grados, tomando un rumbo inesperado y por demás intrigante. Aquella amistad ahora se vuelve fría, rencorosa y llena de corazones rotos. Aun así, desde el primer episodio hay un indicio claro a la fragilidad de algunas personalidades, cuestión que mantiene el hilo argumental totalmente indeformable.
Tanto Lila como Elena son esas caras opuestas en una misma moneda. Ciertamente, alguno de los lados debe golpearse contra el suelo mientras el otro observa silencioso, apenas afectado por la fuerza del impacto. Hasta ahora las dos primeras temporadas han sido buenas, aunque sí debería elegir una pues preferiría la segunda. Quizás algunos elementos fueron muy explotados, como la personalidad desequilibrada de Lila o la delicada ingenuidad de Elena, sin embargo, parece que esto resultó muy bien para la historia. Otra vez, Max Richter nos cautivó con una banda sonora muy apegada a las emociones y sentimientos de los personajes. Para mí el mejor papel lo desempeñó Gaia Girace como Lila Cerullo. Su indomable personalidad aún atrae algunas carcajadas y suspiros en mi boca.
